Here's a bit of a value playing from me as well.
It's nothing daring or revolutionary but it's something heh. I've spent way too much time on this as it is, I don't feel like dragging it out anymore so here it is.
The hand is horrendous and it definetly needs more studying.

Sorry for not being more active, it's a bit busy with some other obligations at the moment...

sean im not in a position to tell you whether the studies are crap. do YOU think they are crap?

Personally i think the studies on value have been EXTREMELY helpful for me for understanding rendering tone. im still working on the top value key one atm. (bit of a perfectionist) 4h and counting.

also love the paintover but the neck shadow seems wrong

thanks and dont worry i know they are guidelines . Honestly i ve done a lot of copying work before, although never focused on getting the values EXACT, which is why this exercise has really helped, even tho some are a little off i feel ive got better at seeing contrasts in greyscale. After this I was wondering should i do some colour values as well? (after the 8 of course ) Thanks for the compliment!! Im definetly trying to work quicker as well, otherwise its gonna take me all month to do these.

EDIT: Also how come you dont use tile in ps?

JULIUS: I think your thing looks good great concept, just remember about the 3d space thing, what i do (badly) is draw the axis on another layer which really helps. (like the horizontal axis (X) and the vertical (Y) and the i dont know axis (Z) by drawing these you can understand how your figure works in 3d space

Youve got most the stuff right, its just the axe pole is wonky, and not coming forward in space, making your drawing look a bit weird, and the scales shes carrying are not on the same axis (not necessary) which further confuses me as to what is coming out forward or what is seen side on you get me??

    thanks for the compliments!

nah tile is when you have two or more windows, you can arrange them in an orderly fashion allowing you to easily adjust them both to the same size and zoom, i saw on the video you were doing it manually, try using the tile button its in window arrange tile.

Ill try not to go too hard on the studies, although i pretty much spend at least an hour a day on them. sounds good I was thinking of doing some still life, was wondering whether to do them in colour or not, for now i will stick to b&w.

Im still on the figure at the moment, once ive got that down gonna be keen to try and start doing environments, which i know absolutely ZIP about

EGG I like how smooth it is. its missing somethings though.

    cool glad i could help,

So yea i dont know if theres anyone in particular, do you have any links to big enviro concept artists? Mainly the thing im trying to get, is the extremely fast workflow and idea generation that concept artists are able to achieve with their environments, and the way they display light and shadow.

FZD school come up with amazing enviros!, theres loads of good stuff on here as well let me dig some up. Yea so had a look realised i pretty much like any enviro pic haha. I kind of like sci fi futuristic cities landscapes jungles and shit etc, not really into battles or fantasy stuff for the most part although they look awesome. Cityscapes etc float my boat. Mainly outdoor stuff, but indoor stuff can be nice also.

Basically anything on this EOW thread is good

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=56501

Heres the kind of stuff im aiming to do in the future (mite be a while)

ok cool, got a question for ya. say ive got 8hours per day (for the weekend) how would i organize my time? I've been thinking 2hour observation practice, 2 hour creative thinking, 2 hours on figure, poses and anatomy and i dont know about the rest.

sparth is really cool, havent heard of the rest, saw that hideoyoshi guy and his stuff is incredible however im not aiming for that kind of style.

yea i found that as well. but sometimes for me at least it helps to have a structure otherwise i end up drawing lazy for about two hours etc. just saw that thread impressed! wow didnt know sparth had a sketchbook on here! yea the method looks really interesting well above my skill level tho.

BB: like the piece looks cool. I reckon the clowns need to look more manic, like these are knife wielding clowns right so they are hardly going to be scared of anything, maybe try increasing the intensity of their gazes, make them more menacing?

In the last piece the monk is looking past the object of interest. i think he needs to look at it.

Alex i like the speed paint, dont know what to suggest, maybe a bit cleaner?

I think I will do some gestures tonight actually. Nice stuff looks like your getting in to Chiaroscuro a lot. I would try using different brushes, try using hard round with opacity set to pen pressure.

Alex Zalenski Nice still life. Sure you can join. So from what I saw on your sketchbook you want to do more painterly photoshop speedpainting kind of stuff. Cool cool! Well maybe we can skype chat? or Google+ chat works too.

Is there still an empty place to jump in?
What would be the first assignment where I should start if so?

You can take a look at my sketchbook - I updated it yesterday

    Hey Sean,

Cool that you answered that fast
I'll start on that value studies and post my results as soon as I can.
But I want to put as many time, work and dedication in it as I can.

If Skype is needed I can install it too within the next few days.

    Thank you once more
I need some guidance to improve so I hope to learn a lot of you.
    Impressive Sketchbook!
