Thanks, Stray. I should do some perspective stuff for the thread, seeing how I started it and all. :Hangs head in shame:. So I want to understand photorealism for my paintings and concepts. I went back and messed with an earlier post and just experimented some and tried to figure out ways to get realistic lighting/photo grain/DOF/Chromatic Aberration/etc. Lighting is much more subtle than I originally thought, and in ways it's more difficult than what I've been rendering and in some ways easier. Suppose it just takes some practice doing it a different way, but it's certainly worth it, especially since I hope to do work in films eventually.

great updates ,i liked the zombie character process you charted out,an exercise I would recommend for painting is drawing
with a single flat (round or straight) brush with no opacity jitter and just copy the shapes you see-
it will help simplify the vague ones and control you values better(more similar to oil painting where the is little opacity jitter and you have to pick your values in advance).
be the change you want to see! help me improve by leaving a comment and Ill help you.

Looking good with those latest studies. Careful of using too much texture on that zombie though, especially the dress. My eyes went there first and got a bit lost. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, guys. And I totally agree, Vesh. The brief was for green to be used in the design because of St. Patty's Day, so I added the clovers for some shiggles (definitely overboard). It could definitely be done better, and I'll study hard to figure out how to.

Anyway, quick sketch: A-bom-nation thing. I'll upload more tonight as I go along.

Adding color. Think I'll try and "complete" this guy, or at least take it as far as I can before I feel like I've put too much time into it. Crits to help are certainly welcome.

My friend's idea for a scene: knight slaying some fat demon. Quick sketch of that. I like the direction it's going, but I think it can be more dramatic. Any ideas to help push it further are more than welcome.

I liked that knight idea so I thought I change the angles maybe give you another take on it.

Thanks for the help, Gray! I want to have a more diagonal line of action, so I was thinking more of a low angled shot, using a wide angled lens for some distortion (or as best as I can get to it). The sketch you've got is more of an overhead shot, so I don't feel it's as close to the action. I tried another quick sketch. It's definitely lower than the previous one, but not sure which one I like better just yet. And I can't decide on where to place the swinging arm for the best effect. Need to study some Frank Frazetta.

Thanks, Caterpillar. I guess it seems like a lot, but I feel lazy most of the time. No matter how much I do, I feel like I should be doing so much more. :shrugs:

Anyway, another illustration idea. A girl and her pet.

Thanks for checking out my sketchbook bro.

As for the knight thing the second sketch is much more dynamic and emotional. Compositionally, a low shot like that emphasizes the knight's power and can give it a sense of awe. The problem is we lose any real sense of the guy being slain. Perhaps if that character were on his stomach so we could see an expression?

And the girl and her pet idea is really funny. I had a similar idea with an ogre tamer illustration I've got in the works.
If you're wish my blog and thus portfolio are available for comment. I can always use critique.

Nice updates MrFrenik. Nice updates, I like the sketch in the #310, maybe even more so then the following one. I think you accomplished the line of action, and have good opportunity for contrast on the swordsman, also, the chance to incorporate something interesting in the background that moves the eye full circle back down from the sword. The head is hugging edge, tangent, but it's a sketch, I realize. Just trying to exercise my composition and critique eyes, haha so I hope you can forgive and bear with me. But it has good Frazetta type tension of that guy just about to destroy his foe. Also this troll beast thing, I noticed in the sketch his right(or left)arm seems to be receding in space, but in the rendered it doesn't feel like it's doing so. Same kind of goes for the left(or right)leg. Also the right fist, obviously not finished, but needs something more even if it was and not sure but seems like kind of a tangent as well with his arm and the girl. Maybe I might like to see something more interesting with that arm. But I understand it could throw the pose and anatomy off. It's a wip, so hard to really know what you know and don't already. But Like I said, I'm trying to practice here man. And I know you can easily shrug or laugh it off with dismissal if you see fit. I do like it and think your killing it on the rendering, and overall design so good job man, and terrific stuff as usual! Oh yeah, awesome work on those composition studies, was curious is that bottom right image with the clouds also Prometheus?

Hello man!!! Great to see you keeping up strongly. You are doing good and you will do better. Very nice studies and sketches. Lovely goal to get into films industry. Learn how to render materials and stuff, make good use of photos to enhance your work [but never allow them to lead you, you are the own who must lead a photo], nail down the fundamentals , they apply everywhere .

here i did a paintover just to give you more food for thought.
    Keep up the good work!!!

Gray - thanks for the commens, and I know, right?! The guy's a beast and as nice/helpful as they come. Certainly grateful for the help.

Speaking of which, went over his comments and tried to apply some of what he was talking about. Hopefully it's obvious that I've pushed it in the right direction. Otherwise I will headbutt a fucking brick wall.

Thanks, Papu, I think it looks better too.

Worked more on lighting tonight, trying to keep things consistent, as kostas suggested and noticed I wasn't doing. Crits are very welcomed (anatomy turned to shit, so disregard that as much as you can).
