Your progress is truly inspirational, and I think you have excellent taste in inspirations. Thom Scholes is a badass, and a friend of mine. Be a little cautious not to draw too deeply from a single source. At the end of the day who you are is the total of all the people that have influenced you, and that becomes the unique person that you are. I don't know if you have studied directly under him before, but he is taking on students right now. If you are interested he has a link to his mentorship program off his blog. http://crayonboxofdoom.blogspot.com/

Thanks man! I try to take inspiration as where a lot as well, mainly Theo Prins and Jaime Jones, and a lot of others, but my quick sketches always seem to end up scholesy. I don't even intend it anymore :p But I'm going to perform an amount of studies hopefully soon, Thomas Morgan and the like, broaden my ways of working a bit. Because indeed, I shouldn't draw too much from one source.
I have never studied under Thomas before, wish I could, I knew about the motivarti program (for which I believe the deadline has past?), but I sadly could not afford it at this point (just moved apartment to Amsterdam, living on your own is expensive!), but I'm saving up for Fall Term, hoping he will accept students again. He said he enjoyed the program a lot, so I'm having good faith.
But thanks for noticing me about it!

You have a very strong sense of style. Those last three quick paintings are very cool. I think your more finished paintings aren't quite as nice. Maybe you should try to achieve that stylized look even when taking a piece to a more finished level. Keep it up!

@LeaderOfZombies: I know :p Reaching that simplicity in more advanced paintings asks for much more skill, but doing my best at improving! Thanks
    @0000 Thanks!

Here's a couple more quickies. Really am only able to draw in between things, hard to start a more finished work. So hard. So little attention. One of them is Scholesish again, I can't help it!

Lovely work! Especially like the atmosphere in the giant scene last page. Really cool.
Would be great to see some light and form studies! If you fancy doing those of course.

    Keep it up!

Thanks Chips! I'll do any studies that could improve me, so you count on it!

Portrait practice as I remain not so great at those. Eyes and noses, they haunt me.

Image is a bit weird because of sharpening CS6 automatically does when scaling an image down, forgot to turn it off..

I'm really terrible at drawing specific surfaces, so I'll be painting more trees and rocks the upcoming time. Get myself into giving more form into things.

Thats great mate, it will be a good training to paint texture/surfaces. you will be able to add detail when/where you need it. You already know how to work simplified so i guess thats the right step you are taking now.

Absolutely love the textures and shapes in the last two.
On the right one, I can't read the volumes that well. In shadow areas, try putting no textures at all. It gives a cool look to rock formations.
You're improving your brushwork with each post. Keep it up

I REALLY like those last environments. Well, you did great progress, this motivates me to do the same . Like you, I am doing an art unrelated college course . I want to achieve professional level in art until the end of my course, are you trying to do the same?

@Sleepless, thanks man! Most troubling was having the shadows on the snow match the rocks, failed at that, doesn't seem like the rocks are actually there, but just pasted in there :p
@Ale, thanks! Jups, aiming for the stars of concept art world! Still working on becoming a Masters of Law, fancy name huh , but after that, I'm completely going to dedicate myself to art. Good luck on doing the same!

These are all lovely but what keeps my eye is these in 162#. A good combination of readable sharp shapes who contain details. Dont leave what you done in these, use some technique elements of it in your other works. Especially the sharp shapes [you could use at least some at a focal point/area]
    keep up the good work!!!

    Good studies all around.
I'm getting very little value variations in your background and foreground. Try to push the background even deeper with less contrasting tones.
As far as the detailing goes, a funny way I go about it is to shrink the brush size. Work with smaller brush sizes when you feel ready for detailing. It's better to have an understanding of the 'broad' first and then go into details, than nitpicking right at the start like most beginners do. You're doing very well regarding this matter.

looking good Overtoom, great sketchbook! That second to last one really has something going on. Overall you've got some really interesting stuff.

And on a second note, that story by cryptcrawler is worrisome.
