Hi, hello and thank you for checking out my sketchbook!

My name is Tom van Rheenen and I'm a Law student from Amsterdam. In my spare time I like to draw and paint digitally, which I've been doing on and off since late 2009. I've never followed any classes so I'm just trying to look at others peoples work, see what they do, and try to learn from it. So please don't be afraid, and be kind enough to give me some advice, tips and tricks. I would be very grateful! Help me improve!

Some more sketches of today, trying out charcoal and white pastel a bit Now I need to win this final war with my scanner. Unbelievable that now iPhones have Siri which can answer your questions, yet somehow, I still don't have a scanner that does what I want it to do... :p

Some rather different things now, something other then the usual
A illustration for a visit to the wodka museum, a poster of Sinter Klaas (a Dutch festivity, compareable to Santa Clause) and a design of the word Lustum.

Hey Overtoom, I am really digging your more recent figure drawings. They are looking really sharp, good proportion and quality of line. Everything in your most recent post is really cool as well! The text is great, I'm really scared of typography. Great stuff dude, looking forward to seeing more.

Anathomy studies are really nice, you seem to be understading muscles and volumes very well, and this last graphic design stuff is also pretty good

However in your first post, some pieces are not same quality as the other, while the last two pieces of the first post are really nice , some full bodies there are not at the same level, I think its a bit of problem of sitting those characther into something, perhaps it could be good to know besides anathomy do some studies on perspective, maybe try also do some studies from photos that contain structures, buildings, etc with figures aswell that will a lot on understanding of space

@ f1x, thanks I will definitely do that! I too do feel like I need to take things from some different angels, perspectives and learn how to place them in an environment.

@rich4rt, kind of :3 Haven't played it in ages though, all those works are fairly old commissions to get some money in the game

Anyway, a little update

A quick sketch, getting facial shapes down faster. Don't mind the bad arcing, just squint your eyes a bit

I really enjoy the violet you throw into the shadows on your latest piece, I really enjoy it overall.

You softened up some of the structure though, sometimes a slighter sign of form is better than not. But still, nice composition, awesome colors, and a pretty nice understanding of anatomy.

I see some nice designs in your illustrations, your anatomy studies are looking good as well.
Your last painting is especially wonderful, beautiful colors in that one. The torso is done very well, the face is a little flat on the (her) left side and chin, nice features though. Keep it up!

Loving the paintings and the studies. You seem to have a good grasp on value. I don't know what it is on #24, but something on the head seems to be a bit off. I think that the temple is a bit too wide and the hair needs to come forward on the side of the head, more. Also, when the shoulders are up like that, the muscles connecting the neck to the shoulder also bulge a bit more.

Keep posting! I want to see moaar!

Thanks for the advice! Added some bits to her temple and make her collar bones a little bit more pronounced. Didn't want to disturb the softness too much Does it look a bit better now?

The neck is looking a lot better! As for the hair, I feel like there should be more next to (her) right eye, because right now that area seems a bit empty. When I cover it with my finger the face seems to work much better with the rest of the form.

Try that on a new layer and see how that looks. @_@

@ Kuddlekins: I think I'm going to give her a different haircut anyway. The whole thing feels a bit wrong and kind of ruins the picture for me :p But that will be in the new year!
