Cleveland Institute of Art BFA Thesis images and animation

I created a 2 minute animation which has stylistic roots in Japanese Wood Block prints. I know, I know, everyone digs ogre's and hot chicks in armour right now, but I am getting just a tad tired of that stuff. No offense to all those awesome ogre, hot chick artists, modellers/animators out there of course!

And links to Windows Media Files for those with good connections...

    low quality 2.02mb

    medium quality 18.7mb

    high quality 38.8mb

I haven`t looked at that movie yet seeing as downloading it at high quality would drop my internet speed to zero and my brother and sister wouldnt like that.
But from the pictures I can tell that that bridge and the rest is just too red, or is that just a bit of communism?

I think it is a good piece. My only crits are that you could have been more creative with the shots/Camera..having one continous shot that just zooms and pans about the scene drains the depth out of it..Youw could add alot more dramma/depth with a few well placed cuts. Also the particle fx on the fish seemed a bit over done...overall good stuff

    Thanks for the feedback guys,

jamie: I grew up in cleveland, tired of the place...

    Montross: Maya 5, AfterFX, Premiere

ZeroWave: Good suggestion, but the piece is meant to be viewed looped. It was created for a gallery setting, and a looping animation seemed the best solution to the problem, therefore one camera move... Yeah particles needed to be toned down significantly.

Nice job! I graduated from CIA back in '94. I went through the ID program when Hugh Greenlee and Roy Hess were in charge. Is Richard Fiorelli still teaching?

Good luck now that you are almost done!

    Hotshoe

Yes Mr. Fiorelli is still there and I had the priveledge of having him for design and perspective rendering. I graduate this year from the new TIME dept. ID seems to be going in some new directions now, it should be interesting.

    Thanks for the reply.

This will also be in CIA's Link magazine for alumni's

also to those of you who cannot get the hi rez version to work, I apologise, there seems to be an error with the file and since I am finished with school I cannot get access to FTP there and re-upload the file.

    Sorry for the inconvienence

That's a great job. Nice style, well worth the effort to go beyond the 'horde charging over the hill' shot. Only crit would be that the camera moves a bit too much for my tastes. This feeling of exploring a painting is very interesting - it could stand some 'quieter' moments. Just wind and ripples in the water or birds reflections, or something of that nature. Nice work tho' hope it pays off for you - entering into any festivals?

    festivals

I had given it some thought, but really was worried that the piece wasn't quite strong enough to stand out. Not digging for compliments here, its just I have been so close to it for so long now, I am not sure if it is worth submission.

as a fellow CIA grad, I say to you, excellent work. Check out an artist by the name of Will Dixon. He graduated with me and did an entire graphic novel with either woodblock or printmaking. it was awesome. he got picked up by Image comics. He graduated in 01
