Thanks for the comments and tips guys, really appreciate it. It is still too cold for my hand to work normaly here, but ones the weather comes warmer, I'll surely do that.
Here is one Michelangelo study. Got myself new scanner, still low quality though, but it's capturing more details than my mobile phone. Unfortunately, it's still not that good, as not all the hatching details can be seen, although they are there, on paper. I've used PS to improve it a little. Added textured paper, as I'm working on a cheap one, and corrected some details and contrast, so it's definitely better than pure scan, but still worse than on real paper. Took me about 3 hours, mostly because I was also reading anatomy book, trying to place muscles onto skeleton more precise, and because of that torso. Sooo much hatching there, that can't be seen that good on this scan, unfortunately, but I'm pretty happy with new things I learned, especially about hatching technique, torso and leg planes, along with anatomy, of course.
Still have to practice placing ribcage and pelvis correctly in some crazy positions, from imagination. Hopefully it will come with practice.![]()
My first still life, didn't went that well, but was fun to do non the less. Learned some things about values and construction. Did my best, though I realized I started to combine hatching and normal shading at one point where it was too late to fix. You learn by failing, eh? Next time, I'll also pay more attention to planes, makes it easier to use values in the beginning. I also realized I kind of like edgy drawings and paintings. I'll start sticking to one style, until I get comfortable with it. Took that advice from jetpack42, from his book actually, which explains
life drawing fundamentals, and basic art philosophy really greatly! So, big thanks to jetpack42!
I also did some practicing on perspective and values on simple forms, using it to draw simplified camel with imagined light source.
You've got some good work here man, keep up the hard work!
art is never finished, only abandoned~Leonardo da Vinci
@ezekrialase : thanks man, I'm doing my best.
Been doodling from imagination a little. That first pose is somewhat similar to what Robert Liberace made, and I tried some different placing of certain features. I was also looking for simplification, rather than going into details. These were quite quick, around 20-25 minutes, and were very fun to do. Good to test my knowledge on certain things, which is still rather lucklaster.
K, did my first character drawings from imagination, influenced by Frazetta and Assassin's Creed, and also submitted them for critiques. They are not finished yet, as you can see.
Also edited my first post, since people can just skip that horrible first page, although I'm not saying this is much better either.![]()
Redesign of barbarian, based on critiques from Critique section. Thanks a bunch!
Hand studies from life(yes, I'm skinny), along with exploring different technique , and another barbarian sketch, hopefully more dynamic now. Each hand took me about 20 minutes. Also, my thumbnail on the left hand doesn't look screwed like that, it's just that there was shadow falling on top of it, and light area was next to it, and combined with bad rendering and erasing, I got that thing which looks like a penis. Oh, and for some reason, my scanner is drawing that straight line onto the scanned picture, which will become really annoying in the nearest future, I can just imagine.
And another WIP. I call him The Collector. Added some basic lightning, although I still haven't done all of the design decisions, like should I add shoulder protection, or leave it as ragged robe, or perhaps add some bones in there. I also did quite a lot of gesture and hands from life studies, although most of those has been thrown into garbage while I was cleaning up my room (I'm working on separate papers, I don't have compact sketchbook). And again, that shitty line, although I tried to remove it as much as possible.
Somewhat finished version. There are tons of little things that should get value correction, but I will not correct it at this stage, but rather focus on studying something more important than details. I hate the fact that it's so low quality, but that's how life goes, eh?
vanaga is right, you gotta be a drawing maniac if you want hard improvements, but in the end its just how bad you want it.
