My name is Corinne I'm 21 and planning on starting a BFA soon but have not taken any art classes so far.

I'm really pushing to learn how to pain environments and draw images that tell a story.

I draw every day, I've only been drawing since October 2011. I update here when I feel like I have something that expresses struggles, process, new techniques.

Thanks for looking I'd love any critiques you have especially on painting or any insights on books to read, tutorials to read, etc.

Here's some Brigman studies from today. Really working on not "petting" the line. My lines are really choppy and I'm trying to fix that.

Did some Brigman faces today, I can feel they are really helping!

The one with the weird tentacle monster and gliding guy are from imagination so they look a lot better.

Also a cowboy picture I struggled with last night, I think my forms today look a little better.

I feel those studies are really helping, but when sketching from life I'm having a hard time deviating from my sketchy lines.

Here's a scene I did from gladiator to show what I did today.

I guess I'm just afraid of being inaccurate but maybe I just have to be a little inaccurate for awhile?

Did a sketch of Mandalore from star wars last night too. I used a reference from a comic artist to draw it. I was working on lines a little more but it looks a little sketchy still with all the black shading I had to do.

Hey guys!

Here's what I've been doing the past couple days, been working on faces a whole lot. Decided I'm going to try that 100 faces thing because I'm really struggling with them.

The skulls and face are obviously Brigman, the warrior woman I copied from a painting which you can see here

Nice faces bro! Keep doing those studies.Found out they really hold the key to a good foundation in art.Practice practice practice .Have you looked through some of Bridgman's or Burne Hogarth's books.They are quite useful when it comes to human anatomy.Good luck and keep posting!

Today is the 30th day in a row of drawing! A whole month! I'm going to celebrate by practicing my first landscape painting (which could potentially be terrible but we will see!)

For today's sketches though I did some brigman and more face studies - but I also did some more in depth fun sketches. I figured this sketchbook can wait a day for me to post more brigman and I wanted to post this stuff instead.

They both have some anatomy problems and both of them are from imagination with zero reference. I've got a long road ahead!

Cool! visible progress here, and it's great that you're keeping to a tight schedule and drawing every day. Keep it up!

I think you'd benefit from trying to draw fewer, bigger lines when you sketch. Your drawings look very scribbly and uncertain right now -- try and think about what the shape you want to draw is, and then draw it clean!

I'm struggling with painting a bit, couldn't figure out how to make that copious amount of trees in a short time. There were a bunch of trees covered in snow at the bottom that I cropped off because I couldn't figure it out.

Hey guys! I feel like I had a pretty good art today. I made it to 30 faces but I did some fun stuff too cause I was feeling a little down last night.

Here's a cityscape painting I attempted last night. I'm not super happy with it, I need to figure a lot of things out about digital painting and I'm struggling with it.

Did some sketches today.

Went to the park and sketched this tree and the school building.

Sketched some faces from a book, tried to draw a lion from imagination then studied some more lions.

Ok so today I was fiddling around with the blur tool and I went a little blur crazy.

The full size image looks aweful, all blurry all over the place.

But the thumbnail looks great because things are more blended together.

How do I avoid overblending?

Ok I tried to calm down on the blurring a bit and came up with this

Something you may want to consider in landscapes is composition and cropping. I'm not really sure what that black thing is on the right but it's a bit distracting--if it's in a photo you can take some artistic license and move it into the frame a bit or delete it altogether. Be careful not to crop things in half or have them sitting right on the edge, especially when you're starting out

Keep going with the faces from reference, there's a big improvement already. Try to keep in mind facial proportions and map them out. Stay away from doing too much from imagination yet, you're not quite ready for it. http://www.foundation3d.com/uploads/...-10-622653.jpg

Ferroh, thanks so much for your crit. You're right, I should stick to observation for now. Every time I do something from imagination I just get frustrated. Thanks for your advice on composition too! I'll keep those things in mind for sure.

Alright, here's my figure drawings from today. I'm... super out of practice with drawing hands which is frustrating. I think maybe I've gotten better at certain things (like faces) and just need to practice them more.
But I'm kind of frustrated today with these.

I've been trying to do gesture drawings every morning, yesterday morning I did that gesture drawing of the guy and got really really frustrated. I decided I really needed to practice hands so I started doing some loomis studies, also shown here.

They turned out pretty good but they were really time consuming, I was really careful with them.

Bah, I know I'm veering from realistic studies but I felt like I could reward myself and spend a day trying to create something from my imagination.

It turned out pretty comic-y. But I had fun thinking about it and fiddling around.

I figured I'd show you guys my Brigman studies today, which is the arms of course. I think the arms clicked with me more than anything else and learning how the bones in the forearms cross really helped.

Perspective is a different story, things came out really shitty when I was copying from the loomis perspective part on figure drawing. I'm having a hard time with perspective and am hoping I can find a book that will teach me basic perspective.

Last one is a painting of zion national park, muddier than I liked but I tried to make it a speed painting but spent a couple hours on it. Cheers!

A great start. I'd just encourage you to keep pushing forward equally in traditional mediums as well as digital mediums. Hope to see more. Cheers.

Thanks Nikodemus! I do need to get back into exploring with some other mediums. I'm going to try to do a graphite portrait today
