NIce work. THe dude on the right side of your warm up drawings reminds of butt-head, a very realistic butt-head.
Well, your moviepaintings are amazing - I will try this too. Thanks for the inspiration and keep it up.
greetings
klaus

Your work is amazing. I'm particularly impressed with your linework characters and curious to know if you can turn their heads and still have them look the same person.
I'd also like to see your work process, the construction work under your drawings.
I love the movie studies, and your rendering has an excellent softness to it. Though sometimes it seems the softness seems a little inappropriate like on the dinosaur's teeth (great texture on that might I add). Keep it up
Leonor Thank you, Heres how I work (I'll save more inbetween step next time just found this). I start most of the time in grayscale with a bigger smooth round brush and erase away or simply draw over it with some gray tone to lower the kontrast or even completly get rid of flaws. After that i draw over and refine it more (i get smaller with the brush size when i need to be more precise and also to get sharper edges). The same process over and over until I dont see any big problems. The piece is still wip, but i guess its at the point to get to rendering and coloring.
Hope it makes any sense and sry for the bad english.

I'll try that next time.
Ghast thx, oversmoothing things is a big problem that i have. I try around with differnt brushes and textures for quite some time now but its hard to find a good balance between hard/soft edges and clean/unclean.

damn you're work is so clean! it seems like you have a good handling on rendering. my only advice would be to work on proportions and drawing as sometimes your heads can get a little big and the general placement of features leads to landmarks on the face feeling floaty. hope that makes sense. good grasp of light and color though. keep applying that stuff to imagination work too. keep up the good work!
loving the studies! they help a lot dont they? nice work!

Your studies are obviously superb!
In your original works most of the poses are pretty stiff and
the colours don't feel as dynamic as they do in your studies.
So maybe now that you have the movie stills thing down
you should do some gestures and trying to practice interesting compositions
and poses!
Keep up the good work!
Just awesome!![]()
Wow! Excellent work, man. Nice rendering, looks like some Rigney techniques. I love that 4 armed white creature "creep"!
Where do you get all these movies from dude!? HAHA! What does doing all these "studies" do anyway? What have you learned and applied from all this? Also How did you get that super sexy smooth emblem in that image you made? With the priest looking dude?
Do a lot of work and your work will be as good as your ambitions.

Eternal Apprentice Hi hows it going? Didn't heared of u for a while. I get the movieshots from this site http://www.cinemasquid.com/blu-ray/m...nshots#index-0. For the emblem i used the eliptical marquee tool when u right click the selection u can stroke the path. The arks are freehand but copyied with alt+shift+ ctrl +t it reminds the last transformation in this case the angle. You learn alot by doing the studies e.g. how to use your tools properly, about color, composition, how to imply things and more.
IanLlanas Thank you. Yeah Rigney has an influence on my workI really love his stuff.
Zikes Thank you
Xelar thank you for the great critique. Gesture studies will definitly be the next on my list.
Alrap thx man!
Something small i did today for the studygroup besides alot of messy scribbles i dont want to show someone.

Absolutely brilliant work!
Especially fond of the Last Starfighter))
I'm a big fan of your linework Lakai, really nice line quality and economical placement.
Lakai, can I ask a question? When you do those digital studies of movie frames, do you have the movie frame underneath and you just study the colours or do you do it from scratch while looking at the picture? Sorry for the noob question![]()
You got some really great linework going on! The Studies are good aswell. This rough studie thing that you do is an interesting practice. Very nice SB keep it up!
Great sketchbook you got going here, I'm diggin the way you render things out..
