    Talking Wizards & Unicorns! (UPDATED: Feb/12/2013 )

I'm promised myself to keep a sketchbook/showcase of my work on here but I've definitely made that promise before... Anyway, I always appreciate and encourage crits and comments. Honesty earns you double points

Update: My portfolio site is here: www.wizardsandunicorns.com and I have a tumblr as well: tumblr.wizardsandunicorns.com

This thread is slowing turning into a growing archive of my stuff as I cull my work from most other sites so skip to the end to see the most recent stuff.

    Cheers,

    g.

Nice work, good clean rendering and colours. I notice you leave the environments unfinished though.

Maybe they're not your main focus but having somewhere to interact with would help sell your characters more. Even if it's a simple patch of ground and some clouds, you know.

    Keep it up!

Nice sketchbook! I like your character designs the guy with red hair reminds me of a cross of tin tin and the game brink!

P.S I think that you could make the hands a bit bigger on the guy in the wetsuit

Nice conceptualizing. Was that blue pencil sketch inspired by Carlos Huante?

Nice work, really like your use of colors, theres something slightly off with some of them, i think the fact they have very little lines and its all blocked color messes with my mind, maybe im just not use to it - very good tho keep it up

@JamesSimons Thanks man! That's a good question, and I didn't really think too hard on it beyond just feeling like I didn't want to gore it up that much. Good call though. Double the gore in the next one I promise.

    Update!

Here is an update to a project I have been working on (slowy) and I hope to get a more substantial package done during the new year. It’s one of the many story lines I have kicking around in my head, particularly one that tickles my historical-fiction-bone enough to put some solid work into it.

    Cheers

Wish I could be more constructive, but I just wanted to say your style is awesome. Nice website too- not too flashy and straight to the point. I'm just curious, are you working professionally yet or in art school?

    Hey Guys!

TFSean - "Solidity" , I like that word! Thanks for the positive feedback!

alleluia - Thanks so much! To answer your question it's yes and no. I've been out of art school for about 3 years and right now I'm picking up illustration contracts where I can get 'em. I just finished a project for a Zoo actually. But it's not exactly the kind of work I feature in my portfolio quite yet save for some odds and ends but right now I'm grateful for any job that will pay me to draw. But I'm getting there. Most of the guys I know didn't start getting the work they really wanted until a couple years after college, about 3-4-ish. So I've got some time to beat the average! Anyway, that was a bit of a ramble. Thanks again!

    Cheers

Working on some new stuff, so I thought i'd post some older stuff. Mostly from the sketchbook drawer.

Also I have a tumblr page! It's a simple mirror of my blog but it helps me spread the love around a lot easier so I post my friends work there as well.

Great sketchbook, some very nice design work.

I don't have tons of experience, so you can take or leave this comment. I think some of your figures look stiff and awkward. It could be something to do with the placement of the feet. The character in your latest post is a prime example. Her knee doesn't match the placement of her feet, if that makes sense. It's too far forward. The lower bodys position doesn't work well with the upper body either.

So if I had some advice, it would be to study anatomy, particularly bones if you haven't done so already. Also focus on drawing people in relaxed poses, say friends or family members or gestures of people in the street, to see how people stand and move naturally.

Overall though, you rendering work and your ideas are really good
