Using img links doesn't work for some reason (has to be approved?) don't like using the attachment editor, but I'll put up with it for now

A sci-fi imagination painting, wanted to see how far I could push myself without ref! Lots to learn, yeaa Painted this after watching the new film 'Drive.' Master cinematography, best film I've seen in a long time!

Hello! Welcome to CA... you may be new here but clearly not new to art! Those digital pieces are really impressive man.
I think you should post using the attachment manager, in years to come some of your pictures may turn into red x's and that would be a shame.

I started posting studies here again because for some reason I can now link the images from my personal blog, much faster ;D

Pose studies (since my proportions were off before, I do need to go back to basics again like at the start of this sketchbook and make sure everything is tight like a tiger) -

Clothing folds studies (It's amazing how you can just design a character around folds themselves (J.C. Leyendecker/TF2 shadow shapes) -

    Fold/material photo study -

    Roman/modern char design -

Medieval/modern military char design (the 2nd colour scheme turned out a little football hooligan xD) -

    Some random doodles -

    Started doing environments -

This sketchbook needs more attention. There's a lot of good work in here.

Immediate observations? I think it would be immensely advantageous to work on your hands. You demonstrate command over anatomy in much of your work, except that the quality of your hands lags behind much of your other developments. Painting hands is hard like a mofo, I know it is. Trying to paint them in photoshop makes me feel like I've never drawn hands before in my life. The hands are so important to gesture and expression, and aside from the face, are the most animated part of the body. I think plying a bit more rigor to some hand studies would be very beneficial to you.

The Fez - Thanks Means a lot! Yea the eternal damnation of hands! Your right, I'll be working on lot's of hand studies over Christmas to get them up to par
ANtY93 - Your wish is my command! I did 3 more characters today, the last 3 on the sheet below to finish my lineup. Let me know what you think

Here's a character lineup based on historical fashion reinterpretation into modern day. Both casual and military clothing. This is for a school project, so I'm a little pressed for time thus the basic block colour rendering -

Cheers and merry xmas to all!

Very nice sketchbook, keep it up! By the way, your imagination paintings are exceptionally good, even more so since you didn't use reference. Not to mention, as others have, your characters are wonderfully original.

I think you're off to a good start! Only thing I keep seeing is that the figures are a wee bit stiff at times. It's improving, but it still stands out at me a bit.

I know you're already doing gesture drawings (and I don't know how long you take usually), but try knocking the time you give yourself down a bit more. As in, 30 seconds or less. Focus more on the movement and flow and less on the overall contour.

ANtY93 - Thanks for the praise, but if you don't like something, at least say what it is about it you don't like, and how I might go about improving it - else it's a hollow comment

enviro update, gonna leave it alone for a month then come back and pulverise it-

Saturday I did some more character concept designs playing with shapes as his original design was quite generic. Still gonna do some more till I hit the sweet spot or one jumps off the page…

and a rough 2hr environment from todays livestream, lots more of these to come -

    updattee

I went back over an old piece that's just over 2 months old now to see quite literally how much I had improved within that time frame, it still has it's flaws but the progress is quite visible! Just goes to show that dedication and hard work pays off, so stop browsing and go paint! (well after this post anyway )

My previous posts had some tired and 'seen that before' designs that didn't gel well with the themes and directions I had chosen so I took a step back and thought about it. I added two tablespoons of sugar and dived back in revamping them into something hopefully fresh, regardless I learnt a lot and levelled up in the process -

    Some wips -

Some environment thumbs playing with shapes from mind and inspired by other artists (Ryan Lang, Scholes, and another I forgot the name of ><). I'll be combining 5&6 into a new finished piece (hopefully ) -

Some beastie silhouette ideations from today -

really cool stuff man, good variety and the desgins of your envs and characters are good and interesting to look at.
One thing i'd say is make your studies relevant, the buffalos looks sick but you are more likely to benefit from studying skin for your characters etc.
    Keep going man looks great

Sorry, I just don't like 3D so much overall but about that piece: everything looks like it's made of the same material, everything shines too much, etc. It just looks like a classic semi-pro's at 3D piece.

While I like semi-pro 2D art very much, I don't like 3D on the same level, can't help it.

Probably someone that's into 3D could help you more, or mb wouldn't agree with my, that's just my own opinion, for sure not objective one since I don't like 3d that much ^^

    Lovely environments

ANtY93 - ye it started out as a basic 3D mesh (see below) I did lots of 2d paintover tho. Your right about the materials I tried to change that up with the latest update. Thanks for the crits man

TFsean - cheers man! Means a lot. As for the studies, I did create a buffalo concept based on the studies, but didn't upload it, I did livestream it tho -http://www.livestream.com/rich4rt But ye I need to do more studies in general, don't we all ;D

After giving the image a break I went back to the library scene and pushed it some more. It's heavily inspired by the beautiful interior environments of Deus Ex. Also to see what I started out with I've attached the basic 3D blockout -

Wow, really awesome character designs, and you have a great sense of color also! I think if you pushed your works to an even higher level of finish, maybe get some more textures in there, you'd be unstoppable

tempest-haze - haha thanks, who told you about my world domination plans?

    Hello! New stuff -

Some ‘singing tree’ enviro things for my project

Char wip/ideation, I wan’t to make some more interesting drastic versions with more obvious ties to sci-fi

    An enviro photo/paint mashup

    Some sketchy doodle doos

As you can see in my sketchbook there is a disturbing lack of studies. It shows. I suck terribly at hands/legs/feet. Well anatomy in general. So focusing this week on hardcore study, Vilppu my hero. But first, time to save the galaxy, mass effect you beast!

Hey 'yall up in here, I got some new stuff to lovingly share -

Mind sketches that are blah, seeing what I need to look into with anatomy (been studying but not as much as I should, pressured to work on graduation stuff..) -

An enemy Japanese/sci-fi/Trevor Claxton inspired dude, I love how he uses a combination of different materials -

Another char wip, ye anatomy ... *sad face* -

    Some environment wip -

Some project world character inhabitants concepts I did today -

    Veshkau - thank you!

Today I went to a Museum to draw. There were so many amazing things, I'm going to have to keep going back! It's great to get out of the house and interact with real people as opposed to staying in drawing alone lol, especially when kidletts and museum staff take interest in what your doing and pay you compliments, it's really a nice feeling. I made a few sketches and some photos that you can see below. Feel free to use the photos for studies, or commercial stuff -

Sketches. Why do pencil drawings always look terrible scanned, anyone know how to get them to look like they do in life? The dodo was not impressed.

    Photos -

I wonder if anyone can guess what IP my grad project is (this is a redesign, but still should be obvious) -

After doing some studies and I reworked some older chars -

    New chars -

Artax colour thumbs, currently taking it to finish -

Some environments, I've been experimenting with the Sparth shape workflow. Really a fast way to work -
