razv23: Thanks man!
BlackDelphin: Wow, thanks so much! Glad to hear thatVilppu is amazing from all I know... I always wanted to study his approach. Maybe this is a good time to do some shopping at amazon... I got a full list of books after a few days in this community
Can you recommend any particular book by Vilppu?
Marian Rowling: Hey, thank you... I really appreciate that!
Today I did this character sketch. I don't think I will work any further on this... I feel that I have to learn so much about anatomy and drawing simple figures from mind before I can spend time rendering. After flipping this sketch I noticed that the pose has not become very dynamic and the anatomy is a bit off. But my goal is to post at least one sketch a day, so here it is.

Amazing gesture studies, loved it! waiting for more
I really like this last concept! Will you be working on it some more? He is the forest type archer like,
so seeing some grass or tree hint would be really nice. Or just a bit of envo, would define his personality more.
Regarding vilppu i have one of his books and i really prefer his lecture dvds waaaaaay more.
You can really see him at work, plus he's constantly giving tips. And there's, of course, the lecture.
So yeah! Definitely look for those.
Just noticed, the folds in the pants don't seem right. Considering the more front look of the belt and the right leg, it's a bit strange. Also, the head seems to far to the left side. Adding the thick band is really awesome, but it made the right shoulder go way to far. I think it would have been ok if the head were 3/4 but like this, it really pops out.
Thank you for visiting my sketch book as well, i really appreciate it!
And i'm looking forward in seeing more of your updates as well, definitely!
Regardless of the anatomy or any other technical issues in the last character sketch I must say the general feel and style of the piece is spot on. I honestly love it.

For only drawing a few years, your skills are excellent. Please check and out my sketchbook and feel free to leave any comments. I would greatly appreciate it.
Excellent works.
Maybe you can drop my sb and give me some advice, i would appreciate that.
Linework on the last one is marker, and gray wash watercolour?
Figures are looking really good! The shapes are looking excellent.
Looking forward to the updated version of that study!
always happy to see your new stuffi like that beautfil style in your gesture drawings , you're doing great , i suggest to do some perspective studies to be able to draw a figure in space

Retardinjo: Thanks! Just dropped by your sb... love your stuff!
BlackDelphin: Thanks mate! Pigment-liner and gray wash watercolour on last pic. The gestures are polychromos colored pencil.
WaSsiM: Thanks for stopping by! Glad you like it!. Perspective studies sounds good... there's so muuuuuuuch to learnpld:
Obacmar: Thanks so much!
Today I made a turnaround of the upper body skeleton... it's some kind of Bammes-version. I'm still not able to draw it completely from mind and have to take a look inside the books every now and then. The next step will be to draw each muscle around the skeleton. I hope I can finish the main anatomy of the body next week because I bought a few educational videos and really looking forward to watch them.

Fo sho, anytime
Update for my little anatomy project... I added the muscle-system from Michael Hamptons book to understand the basic arrangement of the muscles and how they affect the volume of the body. I will add the other muscles in the next step and then start copying more "realistic" anatomical charts separately.

Wow! Awesome stuff you have here! I wanna be like you..!
Quick question.. What is your education? Are you mostly self taught? I know you said something about going to school.. When and where have you improved most? Have you read any books? if so.. What books would you recommend?

Keep up the studies!

Love what your doing with your Michael Hampton studies Baudolino. You are making a great reference for the rest of us to learn from. Thank you!![]()
As always... i am totally in love with your gesture drawings !!!!!
Anatomy studies are looking great too !!!!
Keep drawing dude![]()
That may be a beginner point of view but I really enjoyed going through your old stuff on your blog. You have so much talent! Your rendering and lines are so nice and your portraits have a lot of character in them. Sadly there weren't any drawings from when you were a beginner, I'd enjoy seeing them too :>
Seems like you know what you have to do and you're doing it. So keep doing it :>

Faelerai: Thank youI'm self taught. There are two fantastic academies for contemporary art here in vienna, but it seems a bit hard to find a school that is focused on conceptart, illustration, animation or realistic painting in austria. I can't really answer your second question because I'm at the very beginning myself. But I think my best decision was to go to life-drawing classes twice a week. I felt some improvement after a few months. And books... hmm... the first one that really helped me was Harold Speeds "The practice and science of drawing". I also have read the Betty Edwards book and have to admit that I find it very helpful. "Drawn to life" from Walt Stanchfield is great... and Michael Hamptons, Gottfried Bammes and John H. Vanderpoels books.
Marian: Thanks so much.
fenixx: Thanks man!
JulyZerg: I'm glad to hear that, thank you!
I'm happy that I finally finished the turnaround. I discovered so many mistakes while I was drawing and I really didn't want to spend more time working over it. But the good thing is that I now know where I have to do more research: the area around Rectus Abdominis, Qbliques and Serratus Anterior muscles. I luckily have more time for studies today and hopefully will upload some copies from anatomical books in a few hours.
EDIT: I'm taking out the anatomy turnaround until I got some time to correct the mistakes of the lower torso
I also add attach some random figure-sketches I did this morning.

I did some studies from Gottfried Bammes book in the evening. I really have to overwork my last update, I see even more mistakes now.

I love the gestures, and I really admire the fleeting expressions you're able to capture in such loose, quick sketches (on some of the faces on page one). Amazingly good!![]()
Fernteixeira: Wow, thanks hehe. Please consider that I do millions of mistakes (that I why I edit my attached images all the time).
mariposa213: Thanks so much! I can say the same about your figure sketches... I really like them!!
More muscles...
