Hey everyone,

I started drawing about three years ago (from scratch) and this community was a great motivation since then. Today I finally found the courage to create my own sketchbook. I love conceptart & illustration and hope to improve my skills by updating this sketchbook everyday. My dream is to draw and piant everything that I can imagine.

In the next few posts I will show some of the stuff I did during the last 6 months. After that I will only show current work that isn't older than one day. I'm always grateful for comments and criticism, so don't hesitate to give me some feedback

Here are some gesture studies and figure sketches. I use Gottfried Bammes' book for understanding bone structure, Michael Hampton's book for gesture and muscles and Vanderpoels book simply because I love every single drawing in it. Like you can see I only have learned the muscles of the torso yet... so there is much work to do

I am surprised you are inspired by my studies... your figure sketches are amazing !! I love the line quality and the style !!! Nice works, seriously !!

I use Micheal Hampton as well, But only as a guide for an approach on simplifying. Otherwise, I usually use Google Body, and Human Anatomy for Artist to study muscle placement, insertion and origin.

carakhan: Thanks so much! It took me a while to get into watercolor. It's a tricky medium in my opinion, but its fun!

MBardi: Hey, thanks I didn't thought I would get so much response to the watercolor gestures. I'm glad you like it!

fenixx: Oh, your sketchbook is great! I avoided more detailed anatomical studies because I'm more into constructive anatomy. But I know I should do some of them. I didn't know about "Human Anatomy for Artist" and google body btw... thanks for the tipps!

And here is some more stuff... studies from life drawing course. The models are changing position very quick (5-10 min), so I mostly just sketch them.

Dareedse: wow, thanks so much The good thing about the life drawing course is that they always have 3-4 models of several age, bodytype and gender.

In fact I am more interested in constructional anatomy as well. Its just that I don't seem get my head around the simplicity of the forms and my strokes really suck. Any tips regarding the approach ?

Don't know if there was confusion but this is the book "Human Anatomy for Artists" i was referring to.

fenixx: Thanks mate! I just went back to your sketchbook and looked at your works... great stuff, there's nothing wrong with your strokes! I think the line quality comes with constant practice. The more experience we gain, the more confident our lines will become.

I personally like to think of the ribcage as an egg-shape, of the pelvis as an bowl and of the extremities as clyinder forms. The first thing I would do is describe the gesture line and the weight distribution between pelvis and ribcage. Then I describe the head, arms and legs with a few lines and try to keep them related to the gesture line. When adding muscles, I like to draw crosslines around them to show how they affect the outside form of the body. Don't know if this is "a proper way", but its working for me right now. I hope this helps you a bit

The face block in looks great, but there seems to be something off with the perspective of the 3/4th skull.

Today I will start posting my daily stuff. First I show some gesture drawings I did this morning as warm-ups. I still go too much into detail and have problems focusing on the movement and main shapes... I really have to work on this!!

Hello Baudolino! I've seen only one page, and I'm already hooked!

Wonderful figure studies you have here, with wonderful variation. I really like the red pencil one from the 10th post. Seeing some steps of it on your blog was nice as well. The 3rd and 4th image from the first post, the alley and the house are really really awesome. I like how simple, and yet have such a nice mood. I like how solid they look as well.

And what do my eyes see, Bammes studies! Hope to see some more of these. Also, some of your figure remind me of Vilppu.
