When I feel guilty about studying I delay drawing as much as possible, this time it's Hampton. I even saved the ref page in PSD and kept it open for 3 days... no luck. Finally I did a quick sketch of the landmarks.

More on chow..The character doesn't meet the brief age-wise so I don't think I'll participate...(but I like the design, so I'll continue when I can).

Nice work on that character, I really like the design sketches. The painted one is good too, the composition just feels a bit cramped, try a diffrent format with more of the background visible
Keep going on those studies, Proko's videos are great, made it alot easier to understand Loomis construction of the head for me aswell.

Thanks for the critique!! I didn't know what to do with the whole so I slapped a quick gradient and some random brushstrokes for background. I'll review it again and see what can make it better composition.

I want to add one more thing to my daily routine: Value/composition thumbnails. The first one was just a warmup, for the rest I chose a hard egded brush to control the values.

Why don't you have comments in here, I say, there should be more!
Great work I see in here, keep getting better and better!

As for the peace in post #279, I don't think a top left corner is a good idea,
rather then a right top corner. I feel strange looking at it as it is, giving me a
feeling that I should be looking towards the left, not towards the right like you
    are trying to make me.

BlackDelphin, Thank you for the critique and lovely comment! I agree, composition is not really my strong point and what you suggested works better than before. I think a proper background is the only thin missing at this point.

Thank you iven I'm glad with my sense of anatomy is developing, composition needs more work. I'll definitely upload steps when I feel more comfortable with them.

Good anatomy study my fellow spartan camp friend, looking good!
You could try a bit of line weight with your figures, for example
the part of the figure that is further away should have a less visible contour.

With the composition peace, I think the first one is better. Why?-because the limbs
of the figure indicate so. The second option makes me lean towards the edges of the right
corner, and thus making me look out of the peace, instead of drawing me in the image.
Considering the hair that girl has, you could try and make it curve in a way (curve up and towards the
center of the drawing for example) to make my eyes linger on the page.

For more on composition you should definitely have a look at loomis book "Creative Illustration"
which you can find and download here

    Good luck with your drawing!

I see, Thanks! following the girl's pose and limbs as part of the composition definitely makes sense. The background would have to be more defined for me to know where to make the hair point. I'll noodle around some more and see what I can do. And thanks for the gesture tip!

ps: I have a copy of creative illustration downloaded back when the book was legal to download I'll need to study some more.

here's a quick thumbnail study, top 3 are from imagination, rest are ref'd

    5 minute comp/screenshot study from Vikings Ep.1.
(Third frame took around 8 minutes.) I'll try to combine the next study with Loomis' creative illustration.

It's nice to see youre progress! You've come a lot further then in the beginning.
Also with the flying fairy painting, maybe you could add some snow trails or strokes that suggest that she is moving/flying, because now it just feels kinda static.
Aside to that your overall sketchbook is very very nice!

Keep it up, your going strong!

Thank you Deceptive for the critique! I played some more with the painting and added leaves and changed hair direction to add some movement. It's really rough because I want to explore different ideas.
