    Another update.

I want to give each ethereal figure his own character. Left one has the brutish quiet look, middle one has the commander whom has an heroic quality, and the left one has the wild roguish character. All have chopping broadswords and large shields, for both instant kills and protection. All three characters shields are mirrored reflections in order to make the enemy fear more defence than there is. The man on the floor is the guy who sang the last battle hymn, whereas you can see the ethereal figures emerging from his song.

Sone one I kinda like that first thumb of the down view. No one has tried anything like that yet.

rbeek Yeah this is great. I'm worried about the shields. The front guy especially doesn't appear to really be holding his shield. They all appear to have two handed weapons anyway. I would consider losing the shields. However, the shields are a good symbol of protection so maybe you want to keep them--try to make them look like theyre actually being held by those guys properly.

    I think I'm finished:

Artfix, The light beam makes all the difference ^_^ I might have smoothed out the cloudy bit a little, but that's just me. Thankyou for the suggestion about turning around the guy at the back ^_^ I "Borrowed" the card blank to do mockups of both versions, I think the second version works much better ^_^

So, mine started to get really chaotic with me having them flying all over the place, so I decided to ground them again. It was getting too magical in all the wrong ways.

So, this is what I've got now. Running out of time....

"Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. While so occupied, the artist never ceases to be subservient to nature, but instead of imitating the incidents in a paltry way, he imitates the laws."-Andre Lhote

Hey all, some great stuff coming through. Looking out for sone-one's pice, he's got some great work going on the the character challenge.

Posting two things here. First one is the linework I established to get the composition together. was wondering if you guys think it's working?

Second is how far I've come with the rendering, which is to say not very far. I think I'm going to redo this because I wasn't thinking a lot about where the light was coming from cause i was confused about how to render ghostly figures. ANy crits would be appreciated!

ryansumo I think this rough has some good stuff going for it actually. I like it but with a few changes. I would adjust the middle soldier so hes not leaning in front with his sword so much--looks weird.

Then the foreground guy needs rethought I think altogether. But the composition and the wounded guy and back guy I think are working well.

    Wow awesome stuff everyone.
D: I dont think Ill be able to submit on time, as I was moving city this week, took a huge chunk out of my draw time. Unless I can get some serious grind today, in spite still having to unpack and whatever else.

Next wip for me. Making progress though maybe not fast enough to finish in time. I altered the fallen soldier and bg since the previous attempt was lacking anything interesting.

zimfin Hey I like the changes you made. The fallen soldier looks a lot better. I should have mentioned before--I would recommend highly that you change the helmets. Look up some ref. They look like penis heads

Thanks. Lol, they aren't finished yet but they do look suspicious as they are. They are based on reference pics or rather Stills from the Game of Thrones first episode.
