This is what I got so far, but I'm not feeling the love, if it's not working by tomorrow I might start again.

pestibug i like the color though the pose makes it seem like its falling .o.
Harmageddon interesting choice of color
Highland3r interesting concept try to define the gel better imo, the compo looks good atm
Ricardo Robles the pink and blue are too strong
Scorge I love them all lolololol
blazinwolf i like the iridescent look :]
artiphats nice atmosphere going on bro
mat0fr paint over the texture a bit, its a bit to high quality atm
anyways i worked on mine a bit nothing to big just added in the dude and the bg
It survives because it changes it's internal pressure to equal that of the external pressure, it's roughly the size of a large octopus and eats anything and everything smaller than it. This is my first ever CoW
1: valve for changing air internal pressure + eating stuff (kinda like a snake eats stuff: the mouth/valve stretches.
2: stabs it's prey and injects venom or summat from the sacs (4) near the stabby bit.
3: part stomach, part air bag (floats itself up and down in the water).
4: look at 2.
5: animal already in stomach. The bag would shrink (like a vacuum bag) and corrosive acids that coat the inside dissolve the animal.

Odd, I thought I posted this yesterday, but anyway here are more WIPS! I actually think I'm going to go another direction, but I thought I'd post these up anyway.![]()
just a background so far (with work to go)
The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

SKETCHY Book
lkjhgfdsa: promising looking background, I like the composition, hope your gonna put more focus on your creature than the squid, unless of course that's still a background critter
ryansumo: 1 looks the best but I'd try to incorporate more of a design aspect to it, how about some tentacles?
RyNSWOrLD: creepy, almost like the last topic actially, I'm sure you can alter the eye to make it look a bit less human and more sea creature-ish
ColdDegree: pretty cool, try to avoid going into using textures so early
Sunseaker: It's looking decent, it would look better if there was some perspective added to the jaws, because it's head is tilted awkwardly based on it's body position.
Ricardo Robles: Really cool, def something I'd want to avoid meeting at the bottom of the ocean, I'd try to dim down those colours a bit, it distrupts theshape and form of your creature atm
mat0fr: looks cool, like some kind of reptilian-fish ancester, instead of it walking on it's fins like that how about some lobe fins, like the coelacanth, alos try to darken the image a bit to give it more of a deep sea feel
sevira: looking neat, but the background doesn seem a bit too plain, adding a subtle blue gradiation would improve the atmospheric pressence as well as improve the overall composition
artiphats: neat little rendering studies, that's one thing I don't really do at all is learn how to render different materials, especially those that give me a lot of problems. Your creature's looking quite neat atm but the tail looks out of place, it doesn't seem like it's actually attached to your creature.
did a bunch of thumbnail sketches and silhoettes, these are the best ones that I came up with, I'm liking 2 and 3 the best so far...but I may end up changing the design, but keep the overall shape of each later on...
on another note, I was doing a bit more researching on the subject, and found out that apparently that image of the large jellyfish I posted earlier was an optical illusion, it appears in the photo about 20-25ft wide when it was actually only 6 ft wide, yeah only, still a m*ther F*cking big jellyfish, lol

Update time, trying to get a sense of scale going on here. Ditched the eye, it sucked indeed!
lots of awesome work here, and thanks for the feedback so far![]()
A lot of cool stuff going on here! I made som doodles yesterday, and decided on a concept. This is the Coral Plankton Squid. Produces wast amounts of oxygen. Popular for when the blue whale goes REAL deep. Not feeling the composition yet, but getting there![]()

Here's where I'm at so far, laying down the form of the creature. will need to figure out how to render the fins, but it's looking good so far.

heres my current version, made it more realistic:
It's been a long time I haven't been on conceptart.org, I was doing some side projects ;-p .
Here's my progress so far! Comments would be appreciated!
Thanks
Current wip, more to do. I actually want to do a second creature, and then decide which to use. I think I want at least two creatures in the final anyway, one as the primary (themed) creature, and a secondary either being chased or put in for scale / world building, etc. Still playing with atmosphere / particles / bubbles. Another update soon...
i like this one as it has no eyes from living in the dark for so long, plus it looks cool

Thanks guys.
@ Rob: I've been experimenting a lot more recently with this technique, also painting on one layer when it comes down to it. I mostly use line work when the silhouettes just aren't working for me, or sometimes, I use both.
Now I just have to choose one.

This is my idea so far. i call it the bone squid... but it is not a squid...
Scorge: kool, I don't really do silhouettes as often as I should, this time around I did because I was at a bit of a dead end then got my mind working and ended using the one that wasn't a silhouette, lol. btw I'm liking the detail work of the left and bottom one, the top right has the coolest shape and those other little critter swimming around it are pretty cool as well.
just me letting myself get carried away, screenshot/detail/wip image...I'll need to get some different colours in there as well, there's too much blue and a little green, need some warm colours too bring some more interest too the image and improve the overall contrast

Great round! Looking forward to where all of these go! Great start everyone![]()
nice work so far guys
what rob said about my pure black background is true as it is missing some structure and the noise it has on real footage from the deep sea so I added some subtle blue to make it less painful to look at
anyway the first picture is more or less finished and gave me some time to get a grasp of my creature
now Ill head for a second picture with a more dynamic composition and a more logical source of light
well lets see how it will work out
This is my first idea. Looking good in this forum everybody!

Pretty close to being done on this design, still hoping to try out another one. I realized my color profile was accidentally changed in PS, that's why the other posts looked dark. I think this is better.
I decided to drop the previous one, it didn't take :/ Trying to get this new one to work.
