@vanaga yeah I learned how to side with the side of a pencil for the first time. Opened up a whole new world, I am so in love with pencils now. .

Todays update: I'm taking a break from perspective/enviros, returning to severely neglected figures. Going thru Loomis figure drawing from first page. You can see that I severely need this practice xD

Last page is quick few min drawing of my dad from life. Had leg issues.. x_x

Yeah that Loomis will give you a kick in the skills. Be patient and go through it fully.
Cool to hear that you learned shading with the side. Can you give any advice how to do that correctly?, cause I would be glad to learn that from you.

@vanaga I fully intend to I will somehow overcome my impatience... >_< And I'm the wrong person to ask about shading with the side of a pencil because I only started that this week. I just kind of hold it pointy .. ok nvm. Try watching the Gnomon drawing the male portrait vid, I've only watched the intro so far but that's how I learned it.

Some failed value studies (pencils from photo, bottle from life) I don't like the way it turned out but failure is necessary sometimes, yeah? xD


And a doodle during breaktime, I'm coming to realize doodles are very important, to relax, let mind flow again, enjoy art and also get to apply some stuff you learned while not worrying about results.
I know it's quite messy, but I find it *very* restricting to try and be clean and stick to the original idea only. Bad habit or just personal flow style? if anyone has any input that'd be great.

For kicks, a digital quickie I did for a freebies event... missed doing girl heads xD I know of several prominent mistakes but the ones for the freebies are timed and I ran of of time

Very rough character doodles, I started the girl then decided to do a guy version of the same, since I have less experience drawing guys. Yeah I could have given him shorts, but meh xD

A random robot doodle, I'm not verygood at these yet I'm afraid xD as I draw more hopefully I gain confidence and experiment some more

And finally some b/w composition / enviro practice, trying to start from big shapes and break them down. You can see how I got 'used to' it further on .. lol. About the weird values in last one I'm sorry I dont know what happened xD

Marie Callas photo study 50min, because one of my weaknesses are that I have hard time copying proportions accurately (as you can tell! lol)

Another random girl head (I know sooo unoriginal and asiany, but count it as a break from the callas study) I really need, to stop doing the same pictures over and over again!!

And finally this thing... took one of the thumbs I did last time and tried to work more on it. Not very happy how it turned out, looks messy and boring

1. Enviro quickie ... using symmetrical composition. I decided to concentrate more on values and clear reading for now rather than going in and doing tight rendering, b/c tight rendering without a good base is time waste

Hey there,thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. There are some nice stuff here especially the composition and perspective studies (I'm a sucker for those). I would say work on showing the forms more,your lighting in some of the environment paintings are good but the form is not there.
