We're a bit late again, but this should be just a one-shot glitch. The heat wave caused a small brown-out in our area--no power, no computer. Sorry about that.
THERE HAVE BEEN MAJOR CHANGES MADE, SO READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!
All future POW! Challenges will roughly follow the format below, unless otherwise noted for a special event. For the time being, we'll keep the "Illustration" part until the new Illustration gang gets everything settled down.
Five more-or-less related Challenges will be posted from various sources--A, B, C, D, and E. All (except where noted) will run simultaneously. One (C), will end two weeks before the others. Just verify the dates under each challenge and you'll be cool.
You can do any one, two, three, or four, or all of them if you wanna make your mommy really proud. You can "mix and match," meaning if you do A, you don't have to do C(illustration) if you want to do an illustration, too...you can choose illustration D, instead.
If you're a bit unsure of yourself yet, you can try doing the E part of each challenge. It will be a bit easier and less nerve-wracking because we're treating E as a kind of "learning the basics" kind of thing.
In all cases, you can interpret the art any way you wish, and the more creatively, the better. Any media. B&W or Color, unless we specifically point out otherwise.
Comic Topic A: Artists: Almost like real people...
How about we play with the stereotypes that most of the public has assigned our profession? This could be done as a "comparison" of how "real people" do things and how WE do them (two-panel format set up as self-contained situations), a straight story of just plain "culture shock" ("Be right back, Mom... If a naked girl shows up, just send her to the studio, please..."), or any other idea you can come up with that can be mined for irony or (probably) humor.... Just make sure that whatever you come up with plays with the perceived differences between artists and "real" people in everyday life...
Comic Topic B: Living in the Sticks...
This was suggested by OmenSpirits, and is another "lifestyle" type of thing, but obviously has a lot more possibilities outside of humor... For those of you outside the US, "the sticks" is slang for living in an area that is definitely not urban, like living in the woods, on an isolated island, or in a section of the country that doesn't have a large population, or access to a lot of what we "city folk" consider absolute necessities...like toilet paper...or toilets...or Starbucks...
Either or Both-Deadline: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.
You can present your solution as a minimum of THREE to any practical maximum you wish which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want--just don't get TOO extreme on page counts. REMEMBER: You don't have to have a complete comic to qualify for polling--if you realize you're running out of time, try to get at least THREE pages finished by the deadline. That's all you need to qualify for polling..
Standard Comic Book Size:
--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

Comic Illustration Topic C: Artists: Almost like real people...
Deadline: Sunday, August 7, 2011, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.
This illustration doesn't have to match the approach you might choose for (A) above if you're doing both. You could do it as possible cover art or a stand-alone illustration. You have about TWO WEEKS, all other sizes/rules apply.
Comic Illustration Topic D: Living in the Sticks
Deadline: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.
This illustration, again, doesn't have to match the approach you might choose for (B) above if you're doing both. You have TWO WEEKS, all other sizes/rules apply (above in bold face).
NOW, to be perfectly clear, you can do all four of the above requests, or you can do just one. Any one (or two or three) and they just have to follow the topic descriptions. they DO NOT have to be the same style/approach. This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and post your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs...well...I haven't changed that yet, but at least ask questions.

P.O.W.! Challenge 52E: Interacting...
If you're kinda new to this stuff, here's a little thing you can work on without losing your mind...and fingers...and sleep...
Last time, we played with individual characters (and we'll do more of that in the future), so for this week, let's drift a bit further into the "story" type of art we're doing here. One problem that people have with comics is they suddenly realize the little characters they develop have to interact with each other--over and over. You can probably fake a drawing of a guy on a horse to get a point across, but here, you may have to show the guy getting on the horse, going somewhere at different angles and views, and getting off the horse, maybe after doing some running/jumping/flying and stuff like that. Looooots of work...a lot more than doing one drawing...and you have to make it believable.
Let's keep it simple. Do "ALMOST" stick figures (don't go into a lot of detail, just enough to see what and who is involved) interacting with each other in various angles and views--just talking, walking, sitting in a conversation, arguing, fighting, being sexy, working together or against each other, etc. This is practice for establishing how people appear in a situation that the reader will recognize immediately. Gesture and "type" is more important than finely drawn characters here.
Deadline: Characters E: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

Good luck.
A little note here for all of you who have supported the P.O.W.! Challenges...thankyewthankyewthankyew...
Just a reminder--those of you who didn't get a chance to finish exactly the way you wanted to, or ran into deadline problems, remember there is a sticky section where you can post your stuff when you do get it up to speed.
