    Thumbs up

Haven't got time for a longer post, so I'll just applaud you on the amount of variety in your sketchbook; something mine lacks. Keep up the good work. Magic.

Udonhead: thx mate, values and composition are definitely on the list to be studied more soon. Going completely wild with imagination, not so much. For now at least.

iven: thanks man! I really need to get back to those Scott Robertson studies.

magicpudding: thx a mil dude . Speaking of variety: did anyone say dragons?

Garbage bag study. In my defense: by the time I photographed the "model" it had already begun it's inevitable collapse.

Also included are 2 sketches of people sleeping on the train.

Went to see Terror, Walls of Jericho, Lionheart and Suicidal tendencies this weekend and I got inspired.

I love hardcore punk / metal and I love dancing / moshing. These were done from photo ref.

hellooo fellow adammer! nice garbage study!I like the dance moshers too. nice strong lines. hmm one thingI can crit is, the sstrong lines do kind of completely enclose your figure; you might want to choose fewer strong lines and leave the figure 'open'a bit more. you understand my meaning? uh.

ashess: thx! If you live in Amsterdam maybe we can do a sketchmeet with some of the other locals from CA.

I know what you mean by "leaving the figure more open". For instance: when I look at Yoji Shinkawa's art I'm amazed at how much he communicates with a few lines. Look at those legs here!

Tried to be more open in these 3 sketches that I did yesterday. But I still find it hard.

    ooh, great example!
ye, sketchmeets are great! i've some trouble since I got lil kids and the whole job-hobbys riffraff too, but I'd like to try!
the first 2 of this batch are a lot better I think; the last couple you start closing in again. I think it helps if you choose the lines that you like best and only draw those.

Lav: thx! Haha, I wish I was anywhere near his level. Always nice to be compared to a fellow Greek though.

ashess: thanks! Yeah time fly by when life happens. My brother has an 8 months old son. Amazing to watch him speeding through the house. Maybe I'll to draw him too. Your baby drawings seem like great practise. And you're right by the way: that last sketch was drawn before I read your comment.

2 sketches from imagination I did on the train / bus today. Just noticed that the lines are pretty closed on these ones too. I'll try do a more "open" portrait sketch tomorrow.

    Heya!

Liking the moleskine sketches! I like the exploration on the dragons. You can go further on concepting though. Avian, serpentine, dinosaur inspiration. Find interesting shapes and play with them.
You're doing nice on the gesture sketches. Organic stuff. Watch the jaw/chin and foreheads in those faces. They're getting pushed away by enlarged facial features hogging the attention.
Nice garbage study. Kind of like a drapery study.. looks like folds. I wonder about the medium. Is that white pencil? Or pastel?

also- posted something in the dutch sketchmeets section.

Anthis: thx man! Concepting is something I haven't put enough time in. I really want to, but at the moment the little free time I have is mostly taken up by drawing from life / ref.
As soon as I finish up the freelance project I'm working on now and have more time to study I will start devoting 1 night a week to concept sketching / painting, promise!
About the portaits: thx for the pointers. The garbage study was done with black and white conté if I recall correctly.
Also, I'd love to join the sketch trip to the Body worlds expo.

    Some new sketches:
    1) First time I ever tried painter. I really like the way the brushes feel.
2, 3, 4) Photo ref gestures from my sketchbook.

Roope Maatta: Thx allot man. The gesture sketches from you SB are spot on.

I just ordered some new books to continue working on after finishing "Creative perspective for artists":

Mateu-Mestre - "Framed Ink: Drawing and Composition for Visual Storytellers"
Jack Hamm - "Drawing Scenery: Landscapes and Seascapes"
Gary Faigin - "Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression"
Andrew Loomis - "Drawing the Head and Hands"
Gottfried Bammes - "Complete Guide to Life Drawing"
Bayles, David - "Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking"

    Also ordered some for inspiration:
"Art of the Mass Effect Universe"
"Skillful Huntsman, The: Visual Development of a Grimm Tale at Art Center College of Design"
Ashley Wood - "Art of Metal Gear Solid HC"

And will buy a model of a human skull this week to do studies from when I'm done with the basic geo forms.

Here are 2 geo form studies from today and some figure sketches.

    ashess: lol, thx.

I think I'll try to try to combine shadows in 1 shape more in my next sketch, like your overpaint.

2 figures and a portrait sketch of my brother.

I've bought a human skull model yesterday. Tried to paint a value study today. Spend about 3 hours on it, still not enough time to take it to the finish line.

    Done in Photoshop from live.

I didnt mean combine per see. I meant its a very strong part and you can draw the eye to it by repeat2ing the shape, but smller or softer. Nice skull. Goodof you to show the set up.

Your setup really makes me envious. What a great place to practice art.

Your updates are also looking good. Good to see so much black and white work. Really building on the fundamentals of value.

No crits from me this time around, just keep doing what you're doing.

I went to the Body worlds expo today with Ashess and Anthis! All of these were done from live uhh.. corpses.

Last one is a thumbnail study of basic shapes. I kinda see Mass effect 3's influence coming through there, lol.

Your studies look great man! you definitely seem to have extensive knowledge and practice of the figure. Only crit i could suggest is to try and develop more finished pieces. I see a lot of these figure studies and cant help but think if they were to be completely finished. great work tho cant wait to see more!
