Motoko's Sketchbook - total beginner (update:20/7/11)

So I decided to run my own sketchbook. Let me remind you I'm total beginner to drawing, so any critic is welcome!

Right now I learn from "keys to drawing" book. I find it very interesting(and I hope useful as well). Here's one of the exercises about tone. I think I failed but as for noob I like it.

Thanks for feedback, guys! Here's my today drawing, next exercise combining free and control drawing. I had to draw vase with flowers. It was so hard because of the annoying leaves so it turned out not very good

Ok, here's a small update. I try to keep drawing something everyday. In these following drawings I tried to define objects' forms and put some shadows. The details weren't my aim, they're definitely off and sloppy, it was just for fun. Anyway here's a crap:

All beginnings are hard, but it's a great start

As for your drawings, your perspective is a bit off in all of them. You can use your pencil as a guide when drawing these. Just hold it in front of you with your arm streched. It's much easier to determine the length and diagonal of the line.

Hey Motoko,

Drawing something every day is definitely a good place to start. If I may make a suggestion, try bringing more values into your drawings. If you can catch the problem of using only mid-tones early it saves you a bunch of trouble down the line.

Great start! Try practicing drawing confident ovals to remedy the uneven oval on the vase with the flowers. Also try using light, straight guidelines to help make structures look more accurate. Keep updating your sketchbook, it's wonderful to see progress
