With the zombie painting - I think the teeth look very flat - they should start to curve off to the back of its head to look more realistic. Also I find the pointy teeth off putting - IMHO zombies should have normal human looking teeth.

Awesome film study! You did a great job capturing the lighting there.
And the zombie portrait is looking great! Really enjoying the colors on that oneThe only critique I'd raise is that it seems a little too dark. I realize that's probably the point, but I think just a tiny bit more lighting around some key focal areas would help to bring it out a bit more so it doesn't get lost in the background.
Keep up the good work!
~Meps - Yeah , man thanks for the critique! Probably will not go back to fix the face in that painting , but definetely keep an eye on the focal area lighting from now on.
Loomis quick stuff , I did the top three head structure things on top of the page and the rest of it was really empty. Then i realized that the next page of Loomis's book took up like a whole page so I kinda just decided to try and apply one of the structures to an actual face from imagination.
two more eye studies
I realized I was reaaally bad at environments , so I did some...not enough though. Will do more in the future(wow that sounds indefinite, I mean like tonight or tomorrow morning
)

from tonight
The suckiest thing ever!I tried to bring out form out of shape and stuff ... apparantely i suck at it.I ccan't wait to get better at everything
so here , the sucky 20 min portrait
a quick still life
some legs
some figure studies
and a longer figure study ( all of the studies above + this one are without reference)
aaaa i need to do more of this...Hopefully i'll be able to understand some of that anatomy shit , cuz now it looks like crap! :@
Gotta get some sleep now!![]()
Daaaamn , today I realized how much I suck at this drawing thing...that sucks.Gotta work so much harder then I did before.Gonna step up my game! Will post daily from now on!Would looooove crits , but that's entirely up to you...or is it??
Ok , enough rubbish , here's some "art"
Today's dump :
Some referenced torso studies from photos
Tried to apply them from imagination...clearly I wasn't able too, gotta work on that...
Hands from life - they were really fun , the only thing was I couldn't think of more poses for my hand to be in at some pointShould work on my lines too
30 secs poses - It appears I lost so much of my training in the quick pose sketching...unbelievable.Will try to do 20 of these a day.
and two of the crappiest sketchbook pages evere seen on CA...gotta do more imagination stuff.Faces are hard for me too , gotta fix that and get better !
one more eye study - they're really fun ^^
some more torso studies , only in photoshop, trying to learn those values...
and finally an oldman photo study , which i think turned out ok except for the hair,it has always been difficult for me,will work on that too...
Damn....so much to do and so little time :| :|

Time for today's stuff
maaaan I just lost an hour scanning these and I'm not getting it back :X , The next time I'm gonna take pictures for the anatomy studies , sorry guys , just takes less time
so , morning legs studies
Then some hands from life
Tried a sketchbook page , when I failed miserably I saw that I was incredibly bad at faces , so I started going through Loomis again.Gonna be a lot more thorough , letter by letter , line by line...
the shitty thing
Loomis studies
Heads from headaargh they're terrible, nvm just at the beginning , so they wil get better!!
Some 30 secs poses.Really bad at those so i think I'm gonna up my intake to about 50 a day, right now it's only 30.We'll see how it goes
Tried to apply the stuff i learned digitally...did not work...argh gotta improve a lot there too :X
Today's eye study - a zombie one from a reference Dave Rapoza sent me during a livestream critique of that zombie shit painting.Damn , in seconds I realized how much i sucked.I was depressed and thankfulLearned so much!
Thanks guys
And some figure studies to top it off - Naked vs not that naked
See ya tomorrow guys...if there's anybody there anywayOh well...
Ruff couple of days....
I'm quite ashamed to admit that , on the eleventh I did barely a thing...just sitting around watching miyazaki movies , playing games etc...did only two sketchbook pages. The next day though I said to myself that I'll make up for the lost time...I'm still making up , but I certainly did my best. Here the students had a pretty big vacation because of the cold , snowy , icy weather , so it was pretty hard to believe I wouldn't have the freedom to draw all day when the day I had to go back to school came ( which was today) , so I pulled an all nighter , so I could draw as much as possible before school came and the boring lessons followed...IT WAS AWESOME!
just me , myself , the night , pencil , stylus , paper and the rest of the hardware
, so yeah
will not post everything , would take a really long time to load.
Hands from life , torso studies and 30 secs poses ( 50 a day)
Sketchbook pages , trying to get better at those faces...a looooong way to go
A digital portrait attempt...failure again, will keep trying though!
And an environment : trying to understand clouds and find nature's colors![]()
did not succeed obviously...must get better!
![]()
totally awesome! i see how the heads have developet a great deal. keep it up!
Hi,
Here's is a good link on how to build/contruct/think when you draw human body, understanding is as much ( or more i guess) important than executing when you draw.
Concerning your anatomy studies,, you could make long ones (hours), short ones(few minutes), work them out of values only, lines only, color can wait (if you have time you can as well make still lives color studies)
Keep the spirit!
Hey, good thing you are so commited.
I would keep practicing life stuff. Perhaps more still-lifes would be most helpful.
Anyway it is looking well here. Keep it up.
More great studies! Your environment study is looking good, too--I'd love to see more of those. You're doing a good job on the faces--there's more variation there nowDon't be afraid to push it harder! Do some faces from observation, and then try some from imagination and exaggerate some shapes or facial features to really get a feel for them.
(Also, I'll just say it again--love that environment. Clouds are a huge pain to paint, and you're doing an awesome job of recording all the little color and value changes that make them up. Great work)
~Joona - > Thanks , dude!
~Feil Magnus -> Hey!Will definetely do the longer studies!Maybe this weekend , cuz I kinda can't during the work days , since I'm going to school and don't have the time. Thanks for the link , but maybe if you could repost it , because I can't see it.
~merl1n -> Thanks , man, yeaah life stuff is awesome , will keep on doing the hands , although I can't really find anybody who would stand for me for longer periods of timetried coffee places but apparently people drink their coffee quite fast these days haha
~Meps - > Hah , thanks! Yeah , clouds suck!but they're awesome , I love clouds...but i hate them because I can't paint them.I guess I should just learn to do that
Ok , so I've been kinda "lost in the translation" the last few days , so not as much work as I'd like
here are some of the poses, the other ones got spilled over with coffee , got lost , were too crappy , or I was just too lazy to scan them. These are just the ones from the sketchbook
hands from life again I'm thinking I should do more of them...
Anatomy studieeees...
aand heads mixed with weird sketchbook stuff...all from imagination ofcourse
Did another environment , this time faster , around un hour , maybe a bit less...not really happy with it.
wow in retrospect...that's a really small amount of studies for 3 whole days...HELP ME GUYS!!CRITS!!KICK MY ASS!but no , really , I love crits , more would be awesome
cheers!
Wow, this is pretty good, for your age, thats awesome i really like your SB, you are off to an amazing start!,

My SKETCHbook
Hey , just came in to post a link to my blog ( just mad it and It's my first one , so please someone tell me how to make it better)Check it out!
http://othrandir.blogspot.com/
Time for a new post!
Here's some of the sketchbook stuff from the days since my last post , unfortunately that's all of the digitals except for an illustration , I just now started painting.
P.S. a tip - chinese kung fu movies --> reaaally cool for drawing poses , those guys are just crazy!
enough chit-chat here's some jibber-jabber
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f...0018.jpg?gl=BG
a photo study
and a bit of photoshop fun with it
a study gone rogue
a horsey sketch- > that's MY little pony haha
One night I was feeling super angry, nevermind the reasons , and I guess this is what calmed me down.Started at 2:30am , finished at 4:20 am.
aand a couple of environments
the really crappy one
here I tried to study rocks.A fairly quick one probably about 1 hr 15 mins.
'till next time! Cheers!
C&C still encouraged![]()
great development! keep drawing until your hand falls
--> Thanks Cveta!
My god! Today was a horrible day! A friend of mine got accused of doing a crime she could not have possibly made ( she was accused of being a terrorist O.O ) and she's got a hearing tomorrow.damn.Got one of my favourite cups stolen from me today and on top of all that today was like the crappiest art day ever.I was like a corpse , still am...sooo tired ... and I don't know why.Just gonna drop the crappiness in here and gonna fall face down on the bed...
I don't know why I'm posting thisto have a bigger post I guess --> tried to do a photo study and failed miserably
an environment speedy
blaaah gotta do better tomorrow ! C ya guysss!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
your hands sketches are amazing ;x
xJulien - Hey,thanks!
Sooo some face studies - movies , pictures and some Kevin chen studies
in this one the scanner did this weird thing where it shifted the pic on one side , I was extremely lazy to scan it again so yeah...
body studies , mostly Kevin Chen stuff , his construction sketches are so understandable , I think it's because of his show of basic shapes.Well my sketches clearly suck , but they will get better!
some new environments
an environment painting I'm starting , here's some lines and basic colors put on
aaand a really bad and quick personal piece O.O
bleh , just saw Miles's new cast drawing...too amazing , my head is bursting with knowledge hunger O-O c ya![]()
Wow. All of these studies are paying off, man--your anatomy sketches are looking better and better! I'm really jealous of how fast you're improving XD Great environments, too; you're developing a cool, energetic sort of painting style and I'm really looking forward to seeing more.
Good improvements in anatomy, and sweeet environments! Nice!
Meps - Thanks! Although I really don't see that much improvement...every time I start a painting it's a strugle, guess I should paint more then.
Monsieur-Beefy - Merci beaucoup, monsieur!
An incredibly bad sketchbook page
after doing the really crappy page I decided to fill up as nicely as I could the next one , so I actually am trying to up my game by filling nicely two pages.Still not done , we'll see how it goes
Continued work on the environment...why did I chose rock???Hopefully tomorrow I'll get better results
At one point I had to stop looking at the environment thing so I distracted myself with a little portrait thingy , basicly getting the tense out of me
aaand this one was done while listening to the Royal Fellas , man these guys are hilarious!Great job guys!Anywho , I was going for the earth elemental , but I got reaaally carried away and decided to go through with it.Well , this came out
bye guys ( and girls)![]()
Hello! I've been feeling sooo lazy the last couple of days...GAWD! I hate being like that.Sitting and feeling bad that I suck without doing anything about it...that is going to change though!Enough excuses!
Only sketchbook pages for this post , sorry !
![]()
Couldn't sleep , so I drew some boys and girls.Maan , It's 3 AM right now , I have school in 5 hours and I don't know with what I am frustrated more : that I have neither life nor good anatomy in my figures or that I've got to sleep...
blah , will study some more tomorrow , gotta jump on the bed now! bye!
and some progress on the mountain shit...getting realy tired of it
![]()
Today was total crap...In school everybody's shouting all the time and it's sooo annoying.I guess it's just more of a "likes the sound of silence" kinda guy.So in school I barely managed to do a sketchbook page and some figure studies from imagination. When I got home I was still feeling so lazy from yesterday , but I made myself study and after the third or fourth figure it got so fun!I think you just have to get past that moment of laziness by sheer will and then start drillin'!I did like 50-60 30s figure poses , but I'm not going to show you those , because they're boring ,instead, I'll post some longer figure poses with no life in them!! Good deal , huh?
Anyways , I gotta get better with the anatomy stuff!I think I start to understand it a little bit better , but I've got such a long way to go I don't feel happy with my accomplishments at all
crappy figures , as promised
can't forget those hands!
the page from imagination haha
and some random shit so that the post wouldn't be just B/W
![]()
Man this stuff is really progressing fast!, the amount of work your doing is inspiring, i know it can be frustrating at times, but its really paying off
Only suggestion would be to maybe do some longer color studies from life, would be good for color and lighting, ie self portraits, still lifes, or plien air outdoors . Also if you haven't looked into some of James Geurneys books you might check that out.
Keep it up!
