    Talking Jordy Lakiere's Sketchbook

(put in NSFW because there might come some nudity later on, not sure)

    Hey folks, new SB!

Please crit, it's why I'm here! To learn and improve. I adore Paintovers (but I know they are unlikely!) and I always also appreciate tips on new resources/links, anything you can throw at me that might improve my abilities.
I try to vary my topics and methods as much as possible. Still very much looking for a "style" so it might seem a bit chaotic.

Here's some of my recent stuff, most of it unfinished.

Love the dog and the lion-portrait the most. Did you go any further on the floating island drawing? It looks really nice. Keep up the good work!

I did actually go a tiny bit further:

But it still very very very far from what it's supposed to be. This was originally a concept painting for a UDK scene I was contemplating making in full 3D (portfolio project stuff)

If anyone has ideas on props and composition for it, feel free! I already scribbled some illegible brainstorm ideas as you can see.

Cool ideation here. I like the guy on the lion the best. Seeing that with the city matte painting I think your final images have a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing you progress

Hi, You've got a great start to your CA sketchbook.

I like the way you mix more realistic images and sometimes cartoony work. I do that too.

Really like the feel of the restaurant interior. It evokes a strong reaction in me. Pixel the doggy is light but well rendered...even cute I might add. The lighting on the lion and cloaked guy is really good.

    Keep 'em coming! : )

10 minute study (mostly about colour)

Gonna try to do a boatload of these. Obvious mistakes due to time pressure (10 mins = nothing) Note to self: put horizon first next time

That is very nice, great atmospheric perspective! Also like the rendering in the dwarf one. There´s something bugging me in that image, maybe is that i am not used to see dwarfs riding horses.. anyway maybe you could revise the leg´s pose mmm maybe more open?
    also great work on creatures!

Nice artwork! That "fuck the system" picture made my whole attitude change for a second. It's very strong, wonderfully-toned. I love it! I like added texture on your floating land remake too!

I will add that the statue that got removed in your recent picture was my favorite piece in the picture. ><
I do understand why it was taken out- my focus was immediately drawn towards it, and takes attention away from the ships.

Cool, cool stuff bro! Keep up the awesome work!

random concept art tag (the character was mostly already there by some other person)

and repainting the ship one yet again, very very early setup. Feels better now but I'll probably end up repainting it AGAIN at this rate (And I'm not hating it yet, I love seeing my improvement every time I repaint it.)

I think it was around 2 hours or so, maybe 3 including the study sketches I did off our rabbit in the backyard

Not sure how relative it is to conceptart.org, but I'm actually using my 2 paintings here as real concept art for a 3D scene. Here are some shots of current progress (everythng is very work in progress)

I know next to nothing technically about vehicles or guns, have little experience prop-designing and in general drawing mechanical things (especially vehicles and guns) and also scifi stuff. Sooooo, here's some practise on all those things. Crits would be really appreciated!

Another update! Still not quite there yet, but relatively close now.

Gonna raise the city on a cliff and add waterfalls, need to detail ships alot (ropes and stuff) and fix the sails. Gotta up the scale on the buildings of the arch and add the fourth statue silhouette in the background.

Crits very very welcome, please be harsh! This is stuff for my entry-level portfolio

So what's your process like for some of these environmental paintings? Do you lay down a sketch first or go the fat paint brush route and gradually use smaller brushes or?

Hey man, thanks for showing interest!

In this last one I did a fairly detailed sketch on the statue figure, and the 2 ships since they had to be fairly correct perspective and such, but the environmental stuff I usually started in colour without sketch. (because I don't really know where I'm going with it most of the time anyway) If I get stuck on a certain area I might lay in a quick sketch though.

And yeah definitely start large, go in smaller. Sometimes I find myself painting some details on the major focal point to see if the piece will work out (like for example here I detailed the statue fairly early )
