Best Tablet For Beginner? Wacom Bamboo

Is the Wacom Bamboo a good choice?

I know this is a Wacom forum, but what other good choices do I have?

I want one to get me started and will last me until I say "Hey, I'm good at drawing now, I know what's good what's bad and what I need in my tablet." (May take awhile...)

    Long story short, yes!

Haven't run into a tablet that's outdone Wacom yet.

The Bamboo's fine, and pretty cheap nowadays.

    No.

    Depends on the Bamboo.

Bamboos can have 1024 levels of pressure.

In my experience it's always better to play it safe and go with Wacom. Yes, they're expensive, but if you'll pardon the expression, you get what you pay for. Genius tablets, IMO, don't have good driver support and just feel cheap compared to Wacoms. Just my two cents.

That's what I thought. I guess the $60 price tag on the Bamboo is decent.
But is the Bambom w/ 512 points really better than the Genius w/1024 points?

Will the pressure points make a huge difference?

I haven't used the Genius tablet so I can't comment on that, but usually people I know that have bought a non-Wacom tablet have been disappointed.

My old tablet Wacom Graphire 4 had 512 pressure levels, and it was just fine. Now I have Intuos 4 with 2048 levels of pressure. I don't really notice a huge difference, it just feels a bit nicer.

A bit over 10$ more and you would get Bamboo Pen & Touch with 1024 pressure levels Here.

I think there tends to be too much emphasis on pressure sensitivity and not enough on how the tablet responds.

Genius tablets are good for a beginner, they change the game from drawing with a mouse to a tablet.

However, Wacom has better responsiveness. The Bamboos respond better than the Genius tablets.

Intuos respond better than the bamboo tablets. I know it was much more responsive when I had tried it against a friend's graphire. I know it's definitely more responsive against a tablet PC

The Intuos would be too high of a jump for me.
Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch: $79.
    Wacom Bamboo Pen: $52.96

The difference between the two are 512 vs 1024 points. Additional Touch feature. I can't seem to find any more differences. Worth the extra $20?

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS5 on Mac if that matters any.
Are there any cheaper prices or coupons?

Looks like a Bamboo Pen is good enough for me. It works with CS5?
