p sage: jester - done. Worked on it for a few square hours, with a few ideas killed on the way. Not completely satisfied with the result, but I think it helped me progress again further in understanding PS.

    Zaccrockett: Thanks Zac!

Overworlder: I hope so, not as solid as I want it to be - more practice !

Sushy: I think I went crazy painting that Jester, how about some draperies then to fully drive me insane?

Dima: Visit more often, witness less change
All right, I'll try to use the digital as though was using a pencil. Although i thought trying to study new tricks will set me off better.

    cOOOOl!

Hah... I like him, and I like the bottom jester's face, too. Nice job using the limited palette.

Nice approach. Guess I need to put mine up soon

p sage: Thanks. All this stuff is really new to me, but I see the usefulness of limiting myself in the choice of colors.

An acrylics portrait of "Blondie" from "The Good, the bad and the Ugly" movie on a 50x60m canvas in steps.
If it's possible, I'd like to get some critique on the process, I'd applied what I learned in the past 1-2 weeks from photoshop painting to acrylic painting.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures, the light in my room is rather bad and the camera can't fight well through all the obscurity.

step 1 - general shape after building up a pretty dark background (looks like something a child had done)-
    Name: step1.jpg
Views: 224
Size: 378.8 KB
step 2 - patching up the whole face and adding more values -
    Name: step2.jpg
Views: 225
Size: 454.0 KB
step 3 - the biggest addition here is the highlighted areas and some more fixing and tiding up here and there. I think of calling it finished but it feels too dark altogether.

step 4 - I add a hurried light background and add some value to the shirt, but don't feel like adding detail there. I call it done-

p.s- I don't have an easel. Yeah I know, it sucks.

I see some spartan beds QvQ
В россии в детских школах искусств вместо мольбертов ставили два стула напротив друг друга, садились на один, клали на колени большую доску (она облокачивалась на спинку стула впереди), крепили листы-холсты и гогого...

huha - Thanks! I appreciate it a lot

    p sage - Stylish ! Thanks Chad

n1frit - My traditionals (the last ones) are affected by what I learned recently from photoshop, not afraid of colors anymore!
So these two mediums feed each other, which is so cool.

Creusa - yes, that's why I think I won't be buying an easel. Though my friend offered to loan me one for no charge.

OK, one more acrylic. I have problems with my pc, trying to fix it on my own but it's sort of difficult. So I've moved to my laptop which has a linux installed on it. I'll actually see if I can make the tablet work on linux and test out gimp (a graphics software).

For the jester threesome, there's something about the last one that I like the most. I think it's because of the expressiveness of the character's face and body.

Jephyr - Thanks! I realized I can draw him from memory now. Proof below.

Liberty - That's very humble and flattering. Well, not so humble but indeed flattering. Thanks!

Fernteixeira - Not sure what english is monkey english, your english seems ok. Thanks for the comment, you reminded me I should get my pastels out and work with them too

p sage - Didn't have time to work on Gimp, because I fixed my PC. It took some hours but I figured it out and fixed it without formatting and reinstalling !

zaccrockett - jester threesome sounds like something very perverted that I'd want to skip, eh? I actually liked that one too, he was the first jester prototype but I started screwing up as I added more and more details. So I saved his glory as he was at his peak. Shame I couldn't make more out of him

So, fixed my computer. Now some updates from the traditional frontier:

    Aragah - Thanks a bunchos!

Scott Pederson - Thanks I figure that sometimes no matter what kind of "bright" or "warm" color you take and place it upon darker colors, it'll still look sort of good. Been experimenting with this a bit, and it's really fun. Hope I can learn more about it!

I looked at a few pages only of your sb this time.
I saw a lot of great characters on page 3 and I agree with others about the last jester face, that's great.
I like the first pic in the last bunch too. And you traditional sketches show your experience, they aren't flawless but has a nice feel already, your strokes show skill.
Yep, you should study arms in order to avoid making them too short... And eyes need a bit more care too, they are too assymmetric sometimes.

zaccrockett : Thanks! I should finish things more often and actually do studies. Studying some environments now, finding them very relaxing to draw.

p sage: Thanks Chad! I drew him first while waiting for 5 hours for something, that was a really really long wait.

Sushy: I love mecha ! And cars are a guy's specialty, we're born with the ability to draw cool cars

I'm having a strange dejavu as I'm posting this. It's not finished, but I don't know how to proceed. It doesn't look "whole" or very balanced in a way. I'm ought to do some enviros for practice! Very important

Took a while to go through your SB. IF you're having trouble with values, do some still lives, put them away and re-look at them a couple months later. I like the pencil portraits and the Clint picture. On those last ones, spend more time nailing it trad then diving in with the digital.
