Heya! I'm a 21 year-old student hoping to level up my art over the summer.
So, here's some bits from my sketchbook over the last month. Some sketches of some characters of mine, and a page of studies from Anatomy and Drawing, by Victor Perard.

Aha! Found your sketttcbooook
Prepare for the first of many obnoxiously enthusiastic comments to come!
First off I'd say it's a good start, It's nice to finally get to see your studies and sketches too.
The dark eyed, chubby lad is utterly adorable and I like his face, reminds me of the gelflings in the dark crystal.
Studies looking good too, though watch out for the alignment of features, particularly on the face looking up at the bottom. His mouth looks like it's closer to us, whilst the nose is pointing away. It is a hard angle to get right, but keep on practicing.
Isn't there a bit on Loomis drawing the head and hands where they show mouths at different angles? If I wasn't so lazy I'd look fer it myself, but for now I can chuck the link over.

Chances are you've already read it before though, eh?
But anyways, hope to see more soon, I'll be creepin' on you from two sites now.![]()
I like your enthusiastic comments! :B
You're right, I have a problem with aligning noses and mouths properly, especially at angles. I will work more on that.
Actually, I've never read a Loomis book. Heard of them of course, but I've never managed to find one until now. Thanks for the link, I will now discover what I have been missing!
(As for the chubby fella, his name is Nia and he is some kind of elf/selkie thing. You can't tell very well in those drawings, but he has cute little sea lion ears too.)
---
Aaand here are some sketches done in my back garden, and some belated attempts to get acquainted with the planes of the face.
Elf/selkie! I'm intruiged!
And no worries, mate. There's also this if you're interested: http://www.scribd.com/doc/255814/And...Figure-Drawing
They're well known and for a good reason too.
Nice sketches too, More please!![]()
Unfortunately he doesn't have much of a story yet. :B I just like to draw him a lot because he's chubby and adorable.
---
Here's a page of studies of mouths and noses, reffed from movies. And also some face/anatomy practice in the form of a reference sheet for another character. Eesh, I need to work on drawing feet.

Here's a colour drawing I did in my backyard, I'm trying to get better at drawing environments.
Hey thnx for stopping by my SB, Thought I'd return the favour. You got a really nice style with the linework, and the cross-hatching on those mouth studies are nice. Keep it up!

Thanks for stopping by, Rob! I really appreciate it.

I was planning a painting involving a cat, but I realized I have no idea how to draw cats! So here are some studies I did in an attempt to remedy that.
Great sketches, these are really enjoyable to look at and also inspiring. You've given me ideas for things I must try out in my own sketchbook.
Wow, Hellcow, thank you! I'm really flattered.

Aaand here is a rough sketch for a watercolour painting, and also the fruits of my cat endeavors. Still needs some work...
Today I've got the finished watercolour of my previous update, and some studies of poses from the Avatar: The Last Airbender artbook.
Here's a improvement/comparison thing I made for myself, and a prettied up version of the most recent drawing.![]()
I love those cat studies, always found cats tricky buggers.
Gestures are looking good too!
Oh man, I creep on this sketchbook all the time but never sure what to say since I've already commented on some of these pictures on DA. Just keep on keeping on![]()
fff, I still find cats tricky buggers. But the studies helped a bit anyway. xD
---
Bit of a different thing for me today, I tried doing some composition/value studies from The Mummy. Er, the original 1932 version. It was pretty fun! I shall have to do it again some time.
Ans also a watercolour of Naidy's character, Thain.
Those value studies are bloody good, it'd be great to see you chuck a few more this way on your next update.
And oh god, you did such a good job of painting that gangly bastard. The composition's so interesting and you did a good job of making him look shifty and irritated.
Yes, but I've already slobbered over that picture enough. Keep up the good work, mate.![]()
MOAR MUMMY.My original grandiose idea was to draw my way through the whole movie. We'll see how far I get.
I had kind of an off day, so these aren't as successful as the last set. Two in pencil, one in ink, and one that died on impact.
Today I've got some studies of the torso and arm, from Anatomy and Drawing by Victor Perard.
Went out this morning to do some painting before it got super hot. My usual stuff always seems to be really flat, so I focused on trying to create a sense of space.
If that makes sense. :B

Mmm studies. I need to work on torsoes myself.
Anyways, those watercolours have a lovely vibrancy to them. I'd love to see a little more definition in them though, but I know watercolours are unforgiving when you hassle them too much so I won't bug you to.
That said, things are looking good so far. I JUST WANT MORE OF IT
I know, I'm a terribly sloppy watercolourist. I get to about that point and go, "Ah, whatever. Close enough."
---
Not today, though! Here's a (hopefully) slightly more defined painting.

Awww yeah,this is more polished!
Stick with the watercolours, mate. You've got a good sense for colour, just got to work into things more.
I know what you mean though, and sometimes I work into things before they've dried, thoughoughly buggering them up.
One more small watercolour, and the last until I get another pad of paper.

I tried some environment drawing! Shall have to work on it some more.
Enjoy the messy colour and nonsensical lighting.

Okay so like the old Universal horror classics are my new Favourite Things Ever. Most recently I watched Dracula, and really enjoyed it. Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye are awesome, they're like cartoon characters in a room full of wax works. So here's some expression studies I did from them.
Oh and also some studies of the foot I did a while ago.
