    Looking for tablet PC recommendations

I've recently realized I'm spending anything between 8 and 10 hours in front of my PC and, as much as I love my Cintiq, the beast is heavy and cumbersome and there's no way I'll be lugging it with me all over my apartment. Therefore, I need an efficient pc tablet for concept roughs, panel thumbnailing and sketching, though if the machine could do more, I'd have no problem with that. Money is not exactly an issue, but I've heard a couple of horror stories from friends who had major issues with pressure sensitivity, jumpy cursors etc. As a complete layman in terms of pc tablet hardware, I'd appreciate some pointers as to what I should invest into.

I recommend Fujitsu. I started with a Gateway, they make a pretty good 14-inch tablet, but it's heavy and hot, and eventually it wouldn't charge anymore so I got a Fujitsu T4220 from Fujitsu's Ebay store. It works like a champ.

I don't recommend the so-called indoor/outdoor screen option though, it's just grainy and doesn't really help with outdoor use.

    Few words to live by

Avoid anything with N-trig. Like the Dell Latitude tablets, HP TX2, HP Slate 500, and pretty much everything in the 10 inches and less range. N-trig is lousy for art use.

The HP 2730p and Lenovo X200 are fairly popular as convertible choices. While they currently have Core i-series refreshes, those two Core2duo models can be had pretty cheap off ebay.

As far as Slates go, the Asus Ep121 is kind of the leader of the pack. Thats the one I'm currently using. Some performance issues with its ULV Core i5, and a crap battery life of 2 hours....but overall its a very nice tablet.

There's a really good one coming out soon from Samsung, The "Samsung Series 7 Slate PC"

It's pretty much the current 11 inch Macbook Air in tablet form. It has 11.6 screen at 400 Nits of brightness (Cintiq 21ux only has 200 nits), and it has an updated Sandy Bridge Core i5, and a 5-7 hour battery life, with a wacom pen.

Its supposedly being released in October....if your in the market for a tablet PC, I say hold out for this one. I plan on pre-ordering one as soon as they open pre-orders.

And as far as Outdoor Displays go, I have to disagree with Mickeymao.

Time was...All Tablet PC's had grainy screens. More modern ones like the ep121 don't have this issue.

And while it is true that an outdoor screen won't always necessarily be suited for outdoor use situationally (under direct sunlight, etc)....I still recommend an ourdoor screen...For Indoor use. I used to use the Lenovo x61 Tablet PC with the base screen of 200 nits. Night time was fine, but using it indoors during the day was quite difficult if the room had windows.

Thats the main reason why I got the ep121 since it had a brighter screen. Both the ep121 and the HP 2730p use a Boe Hydis AFFS screen. Not necessarily an outdoor display or IPS.....but better then the TN Paneled standard.

I got a Fujitsu T730 Lifebook from Fujitsu's ebay store, it is reconditioned, but appears new. I am really enjoying it even with lower pen pressure sensitivity. You can buy an extended factory warranty from Fujitsu to go along with one of their reconditioned Lifebooks and their customer service is really good. Reconditioned is about half the price of new.

I can run CS5 and actually use the bristle tip mixer brushes and Painter 12 including their new real watercolors without noticeable brush lag. I did have to set Painter's multicore usage to just 2 cores but that is a Painter problem.

It has a core i 5 processor, 4 gigs RAM expandable to 8gigs and apparently decent video because the brushes work nicely in Painter.

Trying to draw or paint with the included stylus isn't all that great but you can get a better one that works very well. I got an Axiotron on ebay that is really nice and feels almost like the art pen I use with my Intuous 4
