Whoooo! Smeagol, Prometheus, and Targete, you guys rock! Targete, you have beautiful technique, and your finished stuff has great color. Prometheus, your work is inspirational as always, and Smeagol, your creatures are just plain funky. And I mean that in a good way. Great stuff guys. Must...draw...more...creatures...

Jens: Thanks for the kind words. You may be right about the front legs. I was going for really narrow shoulder blades and kind of a spindly look there. You're right though, it does look a little weird. To answer your question, the subject size is like 5"X6", so not too big. I usually work right around that size when sketching these characters.
Targete:
You and me both brother!!!! That is my dream job. I appreciate your encouragement. Coming from an individual such as yourself doing such high quality work I feel very humbled! Thanks!Boy would I love doing creatures full time he he.
McNallyism: I've been a long time fan of your work McNally. I will continue to try and BRINK 'DA FUNK! :p

damn smeagol, how the hell do you come up with all this stuff! its mind blowing that you've come up with this many character concepts!
what materials do you use to do these? do you bring them into the computer and clean them up?
Some amazing work displayed here. Since this is a community, I would like to contribute with some of my own work. You are all a true inspiration!

Smeagol71
Very nice. Love to see more of your stuff.
Good job bro that winged creature is one of your best ones of late...looks awesome. I really love that outcropping you put him on too.
Zipp - they look that clean in real life...he uses just a green pencil...it's sick...I watch him sketch them all the time...makes it look easy.
andreasrocha - This is a nice concept I really like it a lot. I like the rendering as well great job!
waylanderx - That kicks total butt...I love the texture on the alien on the left and one on the bottom right. Who am I kidding...they are all great...awesome job.
Elek - I love that pen one...the first one...rendered really well...pen is so hard and you have done a great job.
Beautiful as usual Smeagol, my only comment and minor it is would be to slide his shoulder/deltoid a tad bit towards his neck but keeping the rest of his arm in place..that way he will look like he has more bone structure. Sweet my man keep it up.
J.P.
WaylanderX!!!
sorry I forgot to meantion your stuff!
I love it! Its really nice to see so many different takes on creatures!!! I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of your's on a Saturday morning cartoon!!!! God knows we need a good one...ahh whatever happened to Saturday morning cartoons...
thanks for posting everyone!
-Joshua
Thanks for the comments everyone, they're very encouraging and encouragement is something I always could use!
Targete: I see exactly what you mean. I'll think I'll go back and rework that shoulder per your advice. I was trying to accentuate the bone structure a bit and that would help I think. Thanks for your gracious comments as well, they are much appreciated!
ZippZopp: Thanks! For these last few sketches I've worked with a green col-erase pencil, scanned it into Photoshop, and adjusted the levels a bit to clean up the look. That's about it. By the way...your painting of Minas Morgul is fantastic!!!!
WaylanderX: Always been a fan of your work here and on your site! What great creature concepts, keep posting!!!
And last but certainly not least...thanks bro! See you on Monday if not before! :fruit:
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
Thanks! Its a wide range of date on these, though.....and only the mermaid and the red-balsac creature are even remotely recent, unfortunately. I need to get my ass on some personal projects.hahahaah
There aren't any models here, FYI.
-Dusty
Dusty!
This red one is fantastic! We, here at conceptart, call for more recent work!!! And colored like the red one...i love this piece...
Lukias...another ruler of the arts. Great sketches. Stunning, man!
Lukias...your work is fantastic. I love the sense of atmosphere and action your sketches have, especially 2nd one, the phantom. Very nice.
I hope to see more!
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
Waynepaz...pretty cool. But it would be better to use the link feature so we can all see the image here directly at conceptart.
Being continually inspired by this kick-ass thread I am posting another piece.
![]()
Yeah, the red one is my most recent actually.......last year was kind of a wash for me, so that's why nothing more recent. Too much freelance left for almost zero personal work.
I'll see about some new stuff here this weekend.
-Dusty
I disagree with that, actually. I love the little guy's face. He's tiny! He's doesn't need to look like his brutish friend. The way you have it.....it looks like they are of the same planet (same idea for the ears and the "antennae" coming off their heads), but obviously of different origins.
You kept the design scheme throughout them both, but made them unique.
keep it.
-DUsty
Finally all of you've done it...to kick my butt and make me draw a sketch for this thread!
It's some kind of an alien diplomat...

Dusty: After seeing your first two creatures, I knew I was in for a trip. I kept thinking to myself, damn, this guy is so friggin original, and I was pumped when I reached the bottom of your post to find my name mentioned... and what's more- you called me original.
Made my day, dude.
WOW!
that is some amazing rendering skills you have. He's got the whole city in his eye. Really nice piece as aslways. I'm glad that you came to conceptart!![]()
btw, how long did this take you and how did u use the sandpaper?
