It's been a while since I was last here. Classes are almost out for the summer, which is exciting and means I get to work on comics and [sad attempts at] concept art.

It's so much more encouraging to post my stuff here, crits or no, just so I can keep track with everyone else.

If anything, it puts me back into perspective.

Most recent thing I've done, finished a few hours ago as a project for life drawing.

Self-portrait, in charcoal on 22x30 Arches paper. Took about 10 hours. I need to do more of these over summer, they're really a lot of fun.

This is my most recent stuff aside from the self portrait. It's all classwork from drawing and life drawing class. I'm going to miss my drawing classes over summer.

The first one is from about 4 months ago, the last one within the last week. Nyeh, there's a little glare on the second one. I took the picture after it was shrink wrapped. xD Whoops.

The charcoal portrait has really nice form to it and I really like how you used a unusual colour for the background (: And your still lives and life drawing also have great shading, I love how you painted the cloth, it seems so life-like

I'm just starting a life drawing class in couple of weeks, and having major stage fright about it.

I was kind of terrified too before I went, and I dreaded going to class for 10 or so weeks because things weren't going well in it. But it's really a very fun class. I'm sorry that my schedule won't allow for me to take Life Drawing 2. But there's really nothing to be worried about. It can be really embarrassing at first I suppose since you might not know a lot about the figure and drawing it may be difficult, but the key is to relax. It's one of the most enjoyable classes I've taken.

I'm wanting to repeat the Drawing I, our instructor was kind of absent for 4 weeks of it, and we ended up being a whole project behind... only got to do one rather simple charcoal, and very rushed too.

Those life drawings look good The one lying down looks awesome, the one standing up is looking good too, except maybe the forearm is a tiny bit too long~

@Aereon, lol that figure kicked my ass when I went to finish it in class the other day. Had to have redrawn it 20 times, but I think you're right. His arm was looking a bit long.

Well, classes are finally out and I'm so excited to get down to business! This is a page from my Introduction to Sequential final. It's my favourite. I can't wait to start doing independent projects now.

Stick figure drawings for my Drawing for Sequential class. We're not supposed to use perspective or too much foreshortening, so it was a big challenge to keep the assignment interesting for me. I mostly was trying to get the weight and balance down, but the biggest part of the assignment is having the proportions right. I didn't do them from photo, a couple were from life though. Mostly just imagined poses.

If you see any proportion errors, do call them out. Same goes for the weight and balance. I want to redo the ones that have to most problems before I have to turn this in.

First picture was done in illustrator for a cmpa assignment with the word prompt "fruit". I drew the orange in cmpa today. No reference, was just trying to keep myself entertained. xD

Quick tip regarding painting and black that I have only just figured out myself: Don't use black. Or at least be very careful with it. A lot of stuff that looks black like the shadows deep in the forest, or a black coat aren't actually black. When you slam in 100% black it throws off the whole value structure of the piece and confuses your eye.

Even if it turns out that at the end of the piece a certain area will end up being black, slamming in the full black too early can mess up the value relationships and screw up your process.

Been a long time since I've updated here. School keeps me very busy. It's so all over the place too. I'm hoping I can get a better focus on things. Any advice, as always, is very welcome.

@kdiegert, Thanks, I've heard the advice before and try and shy away from black as much as I can. c: It's always good to have a reminder though.


Anyways, this is my final, as of the moment, for this week's ChOW. It's the first one I've tried, and I feel guilty that I didn't really "push" the idea like I should've, but I'm really proud that I got the balls up to finally do it.
