Living in the mesas of Areth Myn is the glorious Emperor Wyrm. A rare sight, the seemingly eyeless dragons have been noted as carrying with them an aura of omniscience and majesty. A Great Emperor Wyrm lays one egg every three hundred years. The eggs, covered in ornate patterning of silver, platinum and gemstones, are rumored to give immortality to one who eats it. This legend is yet unconfirmed, the closest anyone getting to this prize being a rather unscrupulous duke who, upon reaching the nest, was promptly tossed casually off by the nesting Wyrm.

From the drawings and tales that were past down from the dragon age, the Faberge Egg was created based on the scriptures and story of the few brave adventurers who've had the chance to encounter such great beast. It was said that the egg is as delicate and beautiful as a precious jewel.
Under the dragon's head there are fur like that or a lion's mane, therefore the egg was recreated with lions supporting at the base to symbolize the great strength and power of the creature.

I guess I should've read better, I actually included a pic of the egg within my final image and not with my final image, if that makes any sense. (the dragon is hatching from it). Too bad, but thats what I get from being rusty in english and rushing into the subject, I'll do better next time : ).

That being said, I've voted for njoo (1st), brilliant entry, I love the rocky gems/dents and how they are laid out on the dragon, superb silouette too!

2nd vote for me was lkjhgfdsa who had very vibrant color and a great posing, your dragon truly is elegant.

Here's my crits for the week! What a round this turned out to be! Glad there was the multivote, because picking just one would be impossible!

@Si_Swe: Once again good work, dude! I noticed you pretty much answered my other question in your decription, about the eyes. I would've liked to see the designs of the egg incorporated a little more, they only really show well on its shoulder while I notice a bit on the neck but it's kinda hidden by the secondary lightsource. The designs probably would've looked better along the neck and stomach, as well as on the tail so it doesn't look so plain compared to the rest of the dragon. I liked the gemstone on the head better than the horn, it's a little more unique, seeing as many dragons people have designed have horns, and it goes better with the egg as well.

@lkjhgfdsa: Voted! This painting has a very artsy feel to it, very warm and very vibrant, with its fair share of colours, and textures. Since you describe it as being a small dragon, it would've been nice if you incorporated something in the painting to better show scale. But overall a very nice concept.

@coool_brain: Very cute little baby dragon, you did a good job portraying it's youth and fluffiness of the feathers, and you incorporated the designs of the eggs fairly well.. However, the position of its tail may give it a cute 'curled up in a ball' cuddly feel, but its wings and hind legs are hidden by the tail, so we don't see the full anatomy of your entry clearly which is a requirement for concept art. I also notice the background could've used a little more work. Another thing that bothers me is how the painting looks very pixelated, especially over the green background.

@DoctorDigits: Good design, and decent composition, except for the warm light over in the top left corner, it draws the eye away from the dragon. Showing some underlighting from the torch would've helped keep the eye in the center of the image closer to the focal point.

@Brambor: It looks a lot cleaner and it's not as fuzzy as it was before. Although in terms of composition, I find myself looking at the ground to the left of the dragon due to the harsh contrasts.

@ChromaticCodex: A very unique design here. The pose gives it a good sense of movement. It probably would've worked out better if you kept the colours a little brighter like from your wips, cuz it looks a little dull atm, and pushing the contrasts between the dragon and the sky a little more would make it stand out a little more.

@Camel: Voted! A really neat concept here, your dragon matches up quite nicely with the egg you chose and the colours used go quite well together. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe adding a little more detail to the flies and insects buzzing about. It's one of my favourites his round! Good Job!

@Kleewyck: A cool little scene, makes it seem like the little dragon is some sort of little lizard just running about. Although the head needs to be a little bigger, smaller creatures tend to have a proportionally larger head compared to larger creatures, mostly because the young grows a lot faster due to the added dangers because of their size. I think the background could use a little more work, if you darken the bladesof grass that are in frontof the dragon they seem closer to the viewer, giving the image added depth and improving the composition. Also seeing perhaps another one in the background with its frill and wings spread open, so we can see those designs being demonstrated better. The highlights need to be pushed a little further in detail so the form looks a little more realistic. Perhaps adding a few more warmer colours as a secondary lightsource, to contrast with the blue on the dragon's body.

@Edward B: Voted! Nice wyrm, worm dragon, dragon worm wyrm....thing...lol...The colours are very well executed here lots of nice pinks and oranges that contrsts well with the blue. I feel as if the design is a little incomplete though, especially since we don't see the end of the tail if you would've had it come back around. Also to better match the egg you use adding a little gold to your dragon, doesn't need to be a lot but adding just enough gold will tie your dragon in better with your egg. Anyways in genereal a very nice piece, keep it up!

@acb: Like Edward's the colours used here are executed very well. The use of secodary and third lighting on the body helps it pop much better. The hair has sort of a fiery look to it (pretty close to the designs on the egg I notice). I'm a little confused about where the tail goes, is it turning into a vortex or is it just running behind the dragon? Also since it's very stormy adding some rain and having the hair blow slightly because of all the wind would improve the mood of the piece.

@Metal_Militant: The designs and patterns match with the egg, but the rendering seems a little choppy, and the bright orange sky isn't really working out. You should add some fade to the parts of the image that are further away from the viewer, such as the far wing, tail, and the mountain on the left, so it will add some depth and atmosphere to your piece. Some of the finer details seem a little edgy, use more confident strokes when painting or drawing and make sure that every line looks deliberate. The way the wing just runs of the page doesn't help the composition of the piece. A little more time studying anatomy will help because the bottom jaw looks like its just hanging off of it's head, the shoudler looks like it not attached to the body, and the legs seem way to high up the dragon's body, there are plenty of reference pics out there so don't be afraid to do a little hunting for an image that may help you. Do a little more experimenting with different brushes and study some composition and colour theory, learn more about contrasting colours and values.

@shadow1687: A decent piece, but the composition needs a little fixing. Because of the fire and the pose of the dragon, the flow moves right for the bottom right corner there nothing there to bring the flow back to the dragon, as I've stated before swinging the tail towards the corner back towards the head will improve the flow and make the tail a little more clear to the viewers. Another thing you could do is use the fire to bring the flow back, by having the fire sweep back towards the left it gives the piece more movement and the composition won't stop dead at the corner. There is some really nice detailing on the dragon's head and neck, but the wings need to be pushed a littler further, and the rest of the body got almost no attention. Would've been nice to see more of the egg's design over the rest of the dragon and not just on the wings.

@Doguin: Not too many asian dragons here. This is very nicely rendered, and there is a godd attention to detail here. One thing I notice is the linework on the scales over the body takes away from the golden patterns, the harsh lines break up the shapes of the patterns so it doesn't look as natural. Also to give more of a classical asian dragon look some antlers that resemble the egg's pattern could look nice.

@IVIATT: Nice rendering and the detail is well executed. Though I don't see mcuh of the egg's designs incorporated into your dragon other than the colours.

@ninety9: The design is very well executed, and it matches the egg quite well, despite the simple patterning on the egg, with a good attention to detail. The piece could use a little more depth, because it seems a little flat atm, add some shading to the further legs. The wing looks a little too cloudy compared to the rest of the dragon as well. And the edges look like they need to be brushed up a bit to look smoother in some places.

@Call0ps: The design of the dragon in terms of the anatomy and proportions have been done fairly well here, but the rendering seems a little incomplete, I dunno if it's because of time restraints, but it looks like a little more time could help push this further towards completion. And there should've been a little more of the egg's design incorporated throughout the dragon's body. The background could use a little atmosphere so the very rough legs behind the dragon could be a little bit less obvious. The lack of textures on the piece also makes it seem less finished.

@wizo5454: Some nice rendering going on, a little more attantion detail on the wings, because it's a little difficult to tell if they are typical dragon wings with skin, or if they are feathers. The short stubby feet seem a ways off anatomically, unless that conveys the underdevelopment of the dragon after hatching. Also we don't see much of the dragon's tail, even if there isn't a lot of it to see make it clear in your painting, it is important to portray all key elements of your design since this is about creature design, more than illustration. You really should provide an image of the egg you used, because it is difficult to tell how the egg looks like originally.

@DefiledVisions: Voted! Well it does look a bit unfinished, but in terms of the rendering it still has that sense of awsome! As for the design, it matches the egg very well, the only thing I'd suggest, maybe add a few more flowers to the dragon's body. Anyways for a piece that isn't quite finished, the quality still puts my work to shame, I hope to one day see this piece fully completed, because with a bit more attention it has a lot of potential to be truly a great piece of work.

@RedPen: A decent piece with a good pose, but the other wing seems like it's up a little too high. The mountains could use a little more fade to give it a bit more atmosphere so the dragon stand out a bit more.

@Flame_Unquenchable: As I've stated before, it's an improvement from your previous works, however there is still lots of room for more improvement. The linework looks a little wobbly, practice putting down confident lines, and make sure each line is deliberate. Practice with gestures because that can really help you improve your linework. The pose looks a little stiff as well, the way the dragon's back curves down suggests that it should be sitting, and the lifted front hand looks very awkward. Go on the net and use reference, it can help a lot with drawing poses, for a pose like this you could use, for example, a dog sitting with it's paw lifted. The anatomy of the dragon is still a bit edgy. The hind leg doesn't look like it's attached to the body. Study anatomy thouroughly to understand what is going on underneath the skin, how muscles and bones interact with eachother and how they articulate. Study human anatomy especially, an understanding of human anatomy will help you understand the anatomy of other vertebrates as well. Another thing your dragon doesn't look like it's in front of the background, first off the way it seems like it's floating, and there is no secondary lighting coming from the background. Put an object on another object and notice how the light bounces onto each object. The best thing I can tell you is keep practicing. I can only help, even if your sketching nothing, get that pencil on the paper, or the stylus on the tablet!

@Pat Thompson: It is a really cute little dragon you got there, a neat concept, like something out of a Harry Potter book. I like the little added touch of the clipped toenails on the dragon's feet. And the girl's face in the mirror is rendered nicely. On another note, the egg seems to take away from the foreground seeing as it is more or less the same colour of the dragon. Cooling off the egg, especially on the right further away from the light, will make it stand out a little less, and keep the viewers attention to the dragon itself. In general your improving a little bit each time, so keep it up!
