ROUND #212, the Faberge Dragon

ROUND#212, the Faberge Dragon

Its time again for a cow featuring everyone's favorite creature... DRAGONS! And this time around we'll be designing the fanciest dragon of them all.

First off look at this picture...



Now imagine that instead of being a Faberge egg, its actually a very rare dragon egg. Your challenge this week is to design the dragon that comes out of this extravagant looking egg.

Things to keep in mind...

- try to take visual cues from the look of the egg (colors, decoration, etc.) And incorporate those into the design of your dragon.

- keep it a dragon. There are a lot of different kinds of dragons but it should be reasonably recognizable as a dragon.

- remember to make it fancy! The more the better. And to help let you get it really pretty, this will be a 2 WEEK COW!

also as an alternate to the egg I posted above you will be allowed to look up your own pic of a Faberge egg to do your design. Just make sure to include the pic of the egg with your posted final image.

Show us the most intricately beautiful dragon ever!

Even though I should be sleeping atm...

I was browsing through the holy ground (Google) to find a rare and elusive egg. And found two. But I can only keep one. hmmm... which to keep and which to have for breakfast?...
I like the green one because the design has a nice scale-like pattern to it.
And the black one was interesting the way the gold contrasts with the black.
And I came up with this silhouette earlier today coincidentally, I think its perfect for this topic...ideas are brewing!!
I'm also debating whether to make a hatchling or not...

I had some time this afternoon and I was inspired by the Faberge egg theme. I wanted to do something fluid ... anyway this is what I came up with.

Anyways I've decided to go a different path with this. Adding stuff to the silhouette I've made doesn't seem right so I'm gonna try someting different.

to make browsing a little easier don't click on the ones with(missing), as they have no supplementary picture. Makes sense since they are 'missing' Hope this helps!

brambor nice design, the wings should probably be pushed a little more in terms of size. Because they do not look like they could lift it off the ground. It's a little hard to tell but it look like the dragon's grounded atm, if so the wings seems a little awkward. bats make a good referene for wings whenever you draw wyverns, especialy if they are not in flight.

Jerner Looking good so far, atm a lot of it seems unclear but we'll see when it's more complete. try to show more of the dragon's body in your image than just the bust, because COW is all about creature design, and the more of the body thats shows the more understanding others have of the creature's design and anatomy, anyways looking forward to the final outome, it will look interestng.

Razorleaf try to avoid using pure black for the shading, I would suggest using colours that are closer in hue and saturation, to the colours in the background since it's underwater, much of what's not directly in light is still receiving some light that essentially bounces off of the water around it.
Add a little more gold on the dragon, because it doesn't seem fancy enough atm, incorporate a little more of the egg's design on your dragon.

Well figured I'd post a wip. As I said before I wasn't digging my last design, so I decided to take a new approach. Went for more of a winged serpent kind of dragon, like Quetzalcoatl. atm the colours are a bit to bright for my liking but it's still early and I don't have any background yet. The design will be fancied up as I go, atm just laying down basic colours and building the form.
Feel free to crit and/or suggest anything.

Playing around with some ideas. The pictures are there to remind me what colour/texture i need to paint in later on.

brambor: Looks good, i like that its so boney. The shape of the horns going down over the face goes well with the egg too.

Jerner: It is still a bit hard to see anything but patterns though nice eyes. Looks like its a furry dragon. Cant wait to see some more wip's.

Razorleaf: I would love to see more form especialy in the back legs. Maybe it will help with the concept if you the dragon is a bit more vertical and take the head/neck a bit more down so it follow the flow.

Rob Powell: Still rough so hard to crit though nice differend kind of dragon, i hope to see a little less snake over the body though.

I wanted to make a show dragon, like you got show dogs and cats. Bred only for looks and used as accessories.

Thanks Nocebo. Yeah I was looking at a frilled lizard for inspiration earlier and it does feel too similar still... I already have some ideas on how to pull it away from that creature though, I'll have to sketch some stuff up later.

Well this will be my first post on this forum. I have been following C.O.W. for quite a while now and have been making a concept from time to time.

So finally I have convinced myself to post a Wip of my faberge dragon because I loved the topic. I just couldn't resist.

Still have to work out alot of the details and have no clue what to do with the background. I went with the original egg by the way.
