Well done fran Now ya can actually learn to drive... I dont know is english systems are the same as Saffer ones, but when I passed, I realised that the 'correct' way of driving was a really good way to have an accident unless going at 10mph. Question is... you got a car? hehe

Kim, it has dates on it, but no days or years, so you can use it for whatever year you want.

so if someone says see ya on 23rd... and its 12th, you have to figure out which day that is.... more than my head can manage. doesnt matter, as im sure id just be lookin at the paintings anyway. I just got a calendar myself... part of my girlfriends hopeless quest to make me realise what day of the week it is.

I hope you guys are interested in this, I really do.

I have no date set up, no venue actually arranged and no funding, so we're off to a good start.

Basically how many of you have art that you really want to show off? Maybe get noticed or recognised, or just say 'look at me, I can draw!'
My plan is to try and find or rent some space in a city, most likely London[?], where this can be done.

The chances are very strong that this'll be through such an organisation as the Jerwood Space, so we'd have to pay. I've tried looking into what the Corporation of London has to offer, but I'm a failure. The problem with the Jerwood Space is that it's South of the river (where no one dares venture) and inside. Idealy I think something outside, when it's nice and sunny [yeah... right] would be, well, ideal. Though beggars can't be choosers, though I'm going to continue to look into it.

Basically if you'd be interested in a possible showcasing, which to be honest could well result in money flowing (possibly liberally) from your own pocket then could you please PM me? Hopefully many of you'll be interested in it, and if you can think of alternative venues or ideas please tell me, any help on this would be appreciated.

If you think another city will do if you tell me I'll look into what it has to offer; save you the trouble basically.

(Oh, how rude of me, 'grats, Fran.)

    Rhynome,

My school is right next door to the Jerwood space, and its got a very good rep for shows; Phil Hale has shown work there; and South of the River aint THAT bad -so maybe a good place after all?

I'm up for showing work; mainly large drawings in charcoal (NOT life studies) so ya, I'm interested...

    congrats Fran,

Rhynome, I back this idea, but more from an observers standpoint, good luck.

and about meet times, February/march is semi busy for me, and all plans ain’t finalised yet so probably best I don’t throw down any dates, I shall try my hardest to come to whatever is arranged though.

I cant keep up, are we still talking Birmingham?

Whatever you guys might want to show people. It may be photographs (in the case of Samsite, me [when I start getting the photos properly sorted that is] et al) Charcoal drawings (Molly), whatever you have.
Preferably something physical, maybe even that can be taken away. Preferably nothing controversial or offensive (at first at least) I don't want to be told to bugger off and never come back again.

Why am I doing it? Why not? basically. You joined this forum for whatever reason, though most likely to improve and maybe to show people what you can do - to share what's inside your mind?
Well, hopefully if this gets taken out to a larger group of people, not just those of this forum, then you'll be able to reach more people and maybe one or two people might actually get something out of it; maybe even a job in the future?

There's no doubt in my mind that the first showcasing will mean a loss of money for all involved, but you never know what chances might come along.

    In short:
I'm looking to show whatever everyone has to offer.
I'm looking to show this as it might just be nice or maybe it could open some things up for you.
It'd also mean that maybe you'll be able to look at each other's art in person and maybe comment on it. After all, in person it's far easier to communicate ideas.

By the way, call me Robert, it's much easier. And Danny, why only an observer's standpoint?

(Anyway, you guys seem to churn out some pretty great stuff; so why not show it off?)

Interesting stuff always happens when I'm away What sort of date are you guys aiming for the show?

The meet....best to decide what month at least most people would be free on, esp. the Northerners.

That's a bit ahead. I need to even find venues that'll love us first.

But if you can start giving me the names of dates when you're free, maybe even into summer next year? Then I'll start poking people for information.

For the meet? No idea yet. And that's not exactly promising for my ideas of a showcasing either is it?

    No, back daemon, back!

I'll get a shot of that shot I suggested to you, just to show what I meant [reflection of the gherkin in its neighbour]. It needs decent lighting though, strong blue sky and little glare/reflection of the sun... so uh... I might have to do it in Summer.

I have some more Summer photos to do as well. Where are you at the moment anyway?

    Birthday bop

    hello,

I've got the all clear from my missus to have a midweek (Monday to Friday) birthday club night, but am totally out of the loop (to the tune of about 10 years). I haven't the faintest idea where to go for indie/90's 00's alternative/nu-metal in London. My Guildford chums don't venture out this far y'see. Time Out's not too helpful with their reviews.

    http://www.timeout.com/london/search...earch=2&page=1

I know Camden's wicked on a Saturday, but I prob won't be able to make that night. Its not till early/mid April, but get your thinking caps on, and let me know if anything unmissably dancetacular springs to mind.

    rock & shock y'all

    Pete

    Nimen hao, chou.

Sorry Pudding, can't help you there.

I have some questions when it comes to the exhibition that some of you may be interested in.
    1. If possibly could you please put some art forwards for a communal portfolio which I may be able to show to organisations to say 'look, this is the sort of thing they do.' It would only need to be a piece or two from 3 or 4 people. I'll probably add that Gherkin photo in my avatar.

    2. Would you be willing to exhibit in the boroughs of London instead? The slightly more drab ones. Now hopefully it'd be a last resort (as it would be nice to show closer to the City or Westminster, in the case of London), but it may mean that we get more sympathy when it comes to a willingness to strut our funky stuff. Basically we'd be there to liven the place up for a day or so.

I have some more questions, but I'll leave them for another time when I've nagged people more.
I'm also waiting on a couple of e-mails, so there may be updates coming along.

    Cheers,
    Robert.

sounds like an excellent focus for our art you have here. Gets alot of the artist more involved in their works as well! Good opportunity/timing!

Sounds like a cool idea, similar to what were trying to do down our neck of the woods. Venues are all important and it helps if you've got a rep so whoever is organizing this needs to be fairly established. Were looking at setting up an art and design centre, and hopefully a digital illustration/visualization department for clients. Still looking at locations(country wide), but we have the financial backing so thats half the battle won. Would be a permanent venue that would also serve as an exhibition space for contemporary figurative and concept based work.
