Awesome news Mike!
Was nice meeting the people i've met... which i dont really remember the names... sorry !haha
My time was limited to about 3 hours at the Art Jam, but wow, what a cool event! I hope they do it again soon! Nice meeting you again FireMoth.![]()
Congrats Mike! I wasn't sure either, because AFAIK there are monsters at Bungie. At least the security guy is scary...
We should have an Eastside Sketchgroup meet!
So, next sketch group meeting, are there any preferences on the day? I'm aiming for Saturday January 9th and will do everything in my power to bring in some guys from Microsoft and Bungie. In addition I really want to recreate/establish the workshop idea that was in the plans many moons ago. Let's make this one an event to be remembered!
-Mike
I may be down for that, Mike. Keep me in the loopsie loo.
Best,
D
p.s. congrats on the jay-oh-bee!

Woot! There's one possible attendee, and from one of our old school guys that happens to be a rock star in the Medical Illustration Field. Seriously folks, there's a wealth of knowledge in Dave that one could only with they had. Speaking of which, I wonder if I can con Jon into coming out Dave.So the question remains, East side, or West Side? I'm thinking a nice sit down dinner with conversation and followed by sketching and hanging out for a bit. What does everyone think?
I like the dinner idea but I can't make the 9th - or the 10th or the 16th or 17th...
But don't let me discourage things! If everyone else can make the 9th go with that - Better to have an active group than wait until everyone's available.
That said the west side is more convenient for me![]()
Thanks for the heads up! I'd love to have it on the West side but I think that we've done the same hang outs on Capitol Hill to death and that it's time for a bit of reinvention! Allot of the pro's either work or live on the East side that are a part of the industry and I want to make this as accessible to them as I can. If we have more pro's present it will help drive the motivation of the amateur/aspiring pro's to make it out to meetings for networking purposes. Folks, 1/2 of the trick of getting a job is who you know and who knows you. The other half is your portfolio.
In the past we actually had a decent turn out from the professional community and witnessed a drastic drop off and I want to figure out the best solution on how we can prevent that from happening again. In addition I want to invite a new batch of professionals to the community that will continue to meet and pique the interest of others. The CA.org workshops aren't accessible to those on a budget and I think coming up with a local solution with the volume of talent we have up here is something that is desperately needed. Jason and the guys at MB/CA have their schedules all planned out and unfortunately it doesn't include Seattle all the time (one could only wish). In the mean time I want to create at least a monthly meeting for all of us to get inspired about that can re-energize the community and create a local talent based workshop that rocks your socks off!
I'm definitely down for the Eastside, dinner, sketching and professionals on the dates you mentioned Mike. I certainly won't have enough money for the European workshop, so something local would rock.
When you say Jon, do you mean the AD for WoTC? That would be sweet.![]()
Hey Mike, thanks for the kind words. Appreciate the props!
I'm find with wherever/whatever. As long as there's a good turnout for learning/sharing/caring.![]()

Congratulations!!!! Mike
Yes!Jon is a busy man but we had chatted a bit about him being involved in putting together a workshop.
You deserve it sir! I'm also totally game to have a meeting as long as the turn out and amount of learning/sharing/caring is present.
Thanks Peter!
I think I'll be available for that date in January. I'm not too familiar with the east side, but I'll find my way around...I think, lol. I say that hesitantly because I got lost in Capitol Hill trying to find that drawing jam at the Gage Academy. Didn't really prepare myself for that...
I should be down for the 9th... I think. I'm sure I'll forget, so you'll have to remind me Mike. Btw, congrats again on the job! Can't wait to check out your pimped out office sometime (Mike works one building over from me at Microsoft).

The Lounge was down for a couple of days Dave. As to where I'm at, I'm drawing my arse off and really getting back in the groove. Both Lou and thatfatkid (who work in the same complex as me) have seen what I've been doing and I have to say, I'm pleased with the work I'm cranking out. I'm completely dedicated to making the next sketch group meeting one to be remembered. As of today it's confirmed that we're doing an east side meeting to cater to more of the professional community. This of course is no offense to the students and amateurs out there. In order to create an inspiring group I'd like to get more of the pro's on board to inspire the amateurs in order to create a more explosive growth among the attendees.
I should be at the sketch group meeting, though still an amateur. If flaptraps shows up, I'm stealing his sketchbook. ha.
UNLESS getting paid to teach art to total beginners would qualify me as semi-pro. In that case:

Where on the Eastside?Downtown Kirkland offers a lot of coffee shops, restaurants etc. Then there's Overlake, Bellevue...
Really wanting in on this, so I will be there =) on the 9th if that's the date we're going with!!!
Congrats again Mike!! I can'thelp but keep yelling that at you (so exciting!!!)
Hopefully everyone is doing well sorry I've turned to lurker status for the last while!
Cheers!
I have not been to one of these before and I'd love to get involved. Consider me an avid amateur and it might be kinda short notice but I could definitely pass the word on to some of my professional friend if there were more details available.
Also, it took Google to uncover this thread. Maybe after 140 pages of replies it is time to break off a new one?![]()

Hey all I'd like to attend the next group. Been doing the games thing for a few years as a jack of all trades and am getting back into the drawing/painting thing.

Oh hai.
I just moved to Seattle, now in Queen Anne. I want to draw too. What's going on?
Hi, my name is mud. Stokes posted the info before me. And I was breezing over the page too quickly to notice.
And speaking of my inability to concentrate. Exactly where and what time is the meeting on the 16th? I dont see it posted.
