    WIP Illustration for general comment

    Hi ladies and gents

I'm dusting off an old project of mine for a bit to try out some new techniques and loosen the old comic illustration muscles...

Feel free to comment and crit away...

Why is the little dude holding the flower away from her?
He's standing in front of her but holding his hand to the side.

Tinybird is right, but also turn the hand the way you would hold a flower, reference is nearby. Nice sketch btw

I really like this so far. The girls expression is great. I agree with Tinybird about the flower.

I would only suggest helping make the main subjects pop a bit more by dropping a little more shadow. You might add some shadow behind the girls right elbow and make the shirt of the large glasses guy in the background darker.

Also the people in the background need shadows at their feet along with the podium. Right now the bg seems to float a bit in comparison to the main subjects.

Her hips and feet need to be moved forward a little bit, as it is she looks like she's inside that structure rather than leaning against it (especially with the cast shadow).

TinyBird and Tommoy- Good spot, thanks - I changed his hand to a more natural "flower holding" position.
Jpep Thanks, man - yea - I've added more shadow to the feet in the background, but I intend to push the background noise back with colours.
Elwell - Thanks for commenting! I only saw your comment as I just finished inking, and then the problem started being really obvious to me once you pointed it out, so I did a bit of surgery and re-inking - I think it made a bit of a difference, thanks!

So here it is with some adjustments and inks...

    - Her right knee seems a bit flat. I'm not completely sure, but I also think it's a little bit too low, making her upper leg seem unnaturally long.

    - She looks a little too masculine I think. I think this is mainly caused by her seemingly large forehead, the shape of her chin, and shape of her jaw.

Thanks, DaEvil1 - I keep getting the exact same comments regarding her femininity, with this character when I draw her.
I really think its just her character. Something inside me says I need to keep her like this - she is not a cookie cutter comic chick...Its like Otomo said - I dont draw pretty chicks...haha
But seriously...is she not pretty? does she really look like a dude? Perhaps I am too close to her to notice.

No, she works just fine in this drawing. I think any comments about her looking "manly" or "not pretty" just because she doesn't follow cliched shapes are just dumb (most innocuous word that I can think of. I don't like insulting people).

The character just looks like a mature woman.

Otomo...oh! The guy who made Akira?

Anyway, why are you bumping such an old thread?

I mean...It's your thread, but still.

Not about her looking cookie cutter, more like an effeminate male at this time.
