The funny thing I know there's more than a handful, they just aren't posting to the thread. So either they don't know about it, or don't want anything to do with us. C'mon, I'll even shower...just for you!!!
Whew..
Finally, you showered! The stench is actually bearable now! God, you could smell this forum from a mile away![]()
Yeah fukifino is right, there’s a bloody bazillion SoCalers on this forum, I know two of them personally who haven't posted here yet. There's quite a few of us Art Center kids here also, and I'm sure they'd love to be part of the SoCal concept art community. In fact, I think it's pretty funny that so few of us have posted considering most of the business is concentrated in this area! Hmm.. maybe they are avoiding us.. oh GOD! It's just like high school all over again! *sob*
Oh, and I'm in Eagle Rock, which is nestled comfortably like a face between bosoms flanked by Glendale and Pasadena.
Mmm.. bosoms.

now that you brought up art center, i'm definately staying at home. those dirty accd dot'ers give me the creeps. them and their dirty modernist school. MUWAHAHA
ok...so what are we S. Cal artist supposed to do with this thread? Is somone trying to set up a meeting or somthing?

his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he

unexpected in common hours."

I think that's sort of the point of the local groups. Find other CAers living near you and maybe meet face to face. Being a very new art student myself, I don't really know any other artists in the area other than a few I've met in my class. And taking art classes at a CC, not everyone I've met is all that into the same type of art I am.
So anyways...yeah, I dunno. :/
I thought the point of such threads as these was to isolate our best possible respective genetic matches for breeding purposes...
Dammit! I came for the breeding, but I guess meeting face to face would be acceptable. Mayhaps we should open some form of introduction in the vein of sometime meeting up and not having to use our 133t haxor names in person, for me that would certainly feel a bit more genuine! Sooo here are some fun facts..
Hi, I'm Mike and I live in Eagle Rock. I'm 23 and I'm a Taurus. I'm originally from the East (Buffalo represent, as the kids say) and went to college for Illustration in NYC at Pratt, where being trapped in academic gridlock is a way of life, but fun nonetheless. I enjoy long walks off of short piers and karaoke. I live with my girlfriend, who is an aspiring actress, while I attend Art Center in Pasadena.. which all translates to us being dirt poor, yay! I've been known to poke badgers with spoons and drive too fast while listening to Guns N Roses. So if you're feeling the need to "rock out" then be sure to dial extension #323, Ciao!
Now then, with the dispensing of that formality let's all pony up and give out some vital details! It's always good to get to know people around the area, cause who knows if there's a professional somewhere in this lot who we can all sap for information and good connections, as well as latch on to them like the father that I never had....... *single tear*

lets all meet on the 110 overpass on orange grove in south pasadena and drop eggs on cars.
mister macaroni - breeding, huh? hasn't art center taught you anything about working in a sausage factory? just think of all the women you could have gotten with your tuition. i sure wish i took all that money i sunk into school and bought a fast car and had good times... damn 100k at least.
my name is mike and i'm an alcoholic. i draw things when i feel like it and i resent being called an artist... cause artists are pansies and cut off their ears and dont bathe. oh yea and i like long walks on the beach and looking at the sunset and cute asian women who for obvious reasons hate me.

Mmmm sausage...
Personally I prefer lobbing old meat from the top of my appartment building onto school children, rather than eggs onto passing cars... But to each his own.

Alright, here's the vitals. My name is Forest (yay, hippie parents!), I'm 29 and currently a programmer and part time art student, hoping to jump ship into a career in illustration in the next 2 years or so. I'm just finishing up my first life drawing class and trying to figure out where to go from here. I'm probably going to try to save up for a class at Watts Atelier, but I honestly don't know (plus this workshop is killing my pocketbook).
Mike (the macaroni one)..yer one funny guy.
Any of you other OC peeps going to either the Workshop or the SD Comicon?
Cool beans Forest. Nice to meet you.
I'm going to E3, the Austin Workshop, and am in the process of scheduling the comic con stuff. That may be difficult though......
My name's Phil Holland. I'm am 24. My full time gig is working as a "Scan/Record/Color Coordinator" at Rhythm and Hues Studios. Basically that means I do stuff with film, color correct shots, and program. On the side, when work isn't killing me, I make extra cash doing photography and web work.
When I graduated high school I turned down a couple of full scholarships at UCLA and USC to work on my artistic goals. That was a tuff sell to mom and pops @ 18 while working at a video store. I worked at a small computer company in the valley then landed a temp gig at Rythm that I turned into a career.
So for the past 5 years of being here I've been taking life drawing classes, sculpting classes, and getting crits on my work from people in our art department. Overall, just trying to improve my artistic abilities. Really work on my traditional and digital techniques. I'm a paper sketcher for the most part as I desire that hand to sword feeling. Most of my painting takes place in the digital realm.
I didn't start off with a lot of born in talent, but I had a real interest in illustration, design, character development, and composition.
My passions include conceptual illustration, film making, photography, writing, and music.
My goals all surround generating and fleshing out new concepts and working in feature films and games.
I guess I'd coin myself as a creator.
How's that for a god complex?
I've been involved with the web forums since sijun was in it's wee days. I am mostly am a conceptart.org'er nowadays as this forum seems to be more suited towards my goals. I visit conceptart.org almost everyday.
Phil
Run Forest, Run! For the love of God I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm pleased that you find me funny sir, but I assure you that it’s just the morphine wearing off. What I find funny is that I have access to your deepest secrets on your blog.. and with them, I shall assume your identity and wreak chaos on your life! Or simply see what kinda clothes you have.. because apparently you like black.... and so do I. You're pretty darn funny yourself; especially that Avatar which makes me spit soda every time the "scared" face comes up. Anyway, I indeed may be going to the ComicCon with some pals. My Rei Ayunami costume, complete with oddly seductive bandages, is near complete! (I hope that joke wasn't too dorkish) I'm hoping all the hotels aren't booked.
Guh-reetings Phil, you apparently live in Woodland Hills and therefore are automatically associated, in my mind, with the porn industry, contgrats! But seriously, that rocks that you work at R&H, I officially envy you. Especially since you're the same age as I am and have a steady job. I'd love to see the rest of your work when you get your site up and running. I saw your thunderdome piece *thumb up.* I wouldn't be worried about the God complex thing, I think we all have a touch of that, especially when making sure cats and dogs have proper weddings. It's sinful if they don't I tell you.
Anyway, if anyone gives a hoot, my AIM handle is MaphistoButercup and I'm on that constantly if you care to "chat." Until then, I need some lunch!

Helium Macaroni - Lol. You nailed it to certain extent. Porn is runs wild in the valley, but remember that Neversoft is based in Woodland Hills. So it can't all be bad. I've turned down ridiculous money to do video editing and photography for some of the X rated companies down here. I just don't really want to get into a business that I can't get out of.
Turning down money is really hard to do btw.
However, during the weekend, if you go to Friday's you might just recognize somebody who's body you might be very familar with.
It's a crazy world.
Phil
Hehe...I lived in Canoga Park when I was in Junior High...and to think I was so near all that smut and didn't even know it!
And I have plenty of shallow secrets on my blog too..don't neglect those! And the thought of you in that costume brings back HORRIBLE memories of Man-Faye at AX last year....*shudder*. Wait..that wasn't you was it????
hey, i'm Valerie Fletcher, I too am 24, I graduated from CalArts in 2002 with an animation degree.. 2d!!! a 2d animation degree which qualifies me to continue doing caricatures at theme parks, which I have been doing for 7 years. woo. Right now, I am at the L.A. Zoo. hey, Forest, Phil, Mike, Mike, Terrie and Seb! like I said before, i am in Westwood.
Hey guys, im Peggy and im a highschool student who is planning to go to art center. But first im going to go to pasedena city college to get some of them liberal art + misc classes away first so i can focus on more art at AC. This summer i am about to go take saturday high classes at AC for highschool students. nice to see that there are more southerners around here.
Forest: Sadly no, that wasn't me.. I had the same costume though, except with about 120 lbs more girthOk maybe not. Actually.. I WAS going to suggest to my girlfriend go as Faye to ComicCon, or Aeon Flux, but then she had to go cut her hair and dye it blond.. Cursed girlfriend not adapting herself to all of my entertainment whims. Anyway, I will no doubt be scouring your many pages of blog in order to unearth the vast tapestry of psychological richness that is Forest.
Valerie: Hully.. f'n.. crap.. I love the stuff on your page, especially your animal characters and whatnot. Bloody fantastic. I always envied animation people, such.. uh.. animation in their work, and fluidity and character. Actually many people at Art Center could learn from that. But I'm totally head over heals for your cat characters.. and I hate cats.. they tend to eat my bird. Anyway, I have a good friend in Westwood, she lives over on Rochester St or something. Isn't it a bit expensive to live there? Maybe it’s just the med students at UCLA that drive their Mercedes' just makes me think that.
Phil: Holy crap! I've been to that Fridays! But I failed to see any bustalicious girls there; I guess I wasn't privy to the crowd. Yes indeed I've passed by Neversoft when I visit my buddy out there. I'm actually quite fond of Woodland hills, it was the first impression of LA that I had because when I visited here for the first time, whilst looking at Art Center, I stayed at the good ol' Best Western that adjourns the beautiful Canoga Park lanes!
Hiya Peggy, yeah try and get as much of that liberal arts junk outta the way as you can before you enroll in art center, it makes it much easier
And now.. off to dinner.

Hey Mr Phil, I've been to rhythm and hues a couple time on tour with a couple teachers, maybe I've seen you. Which area do you work in?

Oh yea, I'm rob, 21, living in some cheery part of orange county. Haven't gone to any schools, don't have a job at the moment either.. yes, still live with parents. My line of art interest would be making some comics for now, then who knows what after. Wasn't an art kid, didn't draw at all until a year after high school. Pretty much just poor, quiet, and boring. Good.. goood.
Not sure if I'll be going to the big art convention stuff and whatnot.. I suck at figuring out travel stuff and whatnot (whatnot = limited funding).
:chainsaw: Guess I'll get back to drawing, I'm only on page 3 of this cursed comic.
