Hi CA.org, Here's a bit about me

I'm a college student, I don't really have much art experience, In highschool doodled anime characters.
After highschool stopped sketching or drawing all together. I figured, if i wanted to be a professional
artist i would have had to start studying seriously much earlier in my life.

Then, I came across CA.org, I was inspired by the drive of the people here. That led to me opening the Pandora's Box of Awesome Artists.
People like Bruno Gore, Jason Chan, Marko and Feng Zhu. It all re-invigorated my desire to be an Artist.

Hey man, you and I both dig the same artists, so you -must- be cool.

The site software is getting updated atm, which has buggered the attachment manager (its getting improved actually!) so yeah, photobucket until then.

A pity, as I really want to see what's in this sketchbook.

Really a pity that we can't see your drawings, I'm 24 and also stopped drawing at the age of 16. Until I was 19 and picked up cartoon drawing. Now I want to learn fine arts and picked up the same books as you did. Can't wait to see your study's and drawings!

I really think we still can learn a lot, 23/24 isn't that old right

Very cool indeed, and yeah i've been following Craig Mullins, Frank Frazetta and Iian Mccaig for awhile now. They've been a huge inspiration for me.

Cool sketches! I really like your monsters/creatures, they look very creepy and cool.
Have you ever tried adding color to them?
Keep up those anatomy studies, they'll help you make those characters even cooler!

Really good stuff. Your figures are really coming along. I really love teh fifth one down on april fifth with the dancing ladies. really cool.

This stuff looks really promising! You draw a lot! Try to get more studies in from life and books. I think I see some bridgeman though nice! Good posemaniacs stuff! Also try to make your lines smoother.
Also don't worry about age... that's just more drama. I started drawing at like 18 and Im nearing 20 now (Gonna miss my teen years T-T) I kep thinking about how all the artists I looked up to and how they were drawing at like age 6. Just don't stop drawing. I keep starting and stopping my studies cuz I worry about the effort I put in and how it may or may not work out. But if you gotta succeed... you just gotta not care about the failure and just keep on truckin!

Good advice, i've been wandering away from my studies lately, a bit more then i would like. I'll keep my studies in mind. And yeah, i decided to put the whole age factor aside.

been diving back into Loomis. Most of my studies are not meant for human eyes, haha. Here's two pages from today though, i've been trying to define my faces more. It's a real sore spot for me, HUGE one. I think someone mentioned that drawing realistically when you're first developing is a good idea. But damn it's so hard to avoid exaggeration, especially if you're an Anime guy. So i am officially out of my comfort zone now.

Anyhow here's my desperate attempts at suppressing the inner-weabo. The face on the bottom is referenced from a photo in vogue or maxim i think

Hey, nice sketchbook!
I can really relate to what you said about falling back into drawing exaggerated characters; what I found is that drawing "normal" characters became more natural as I got better at drawing. And it also helped me improve the look of my exaggerated characters

Hey man - thanks for visiting my sketchbook. Your studies are coming along well, especially the Loomis stuff. You should have a look at the CA communities Character of the week thread, maybe something to apply your imagination to?

To everyone who is worried about being too old - I am 31 and only started drawing people 6 months ago, just enjoy the fact you're here surrounded by awesome people and tons of resources to help improve.

More Updates, been trying to get this whole toning thing down... i really start having huge issues with how to shade when i get to the mid section of the body. Also in an effort to add a bit more flavor to my character's faces, i'm going to draw at least a pair of eyes, lips and noses a day. I'll set aside a page for that! going to work on anatomy again for awhile, something still seems really off.

Last page is just a doodle page, i generally will do at least one page a day involving the studies i did that day, so i can put stuff to practice.

Note: some eyes are from imagination, some are from Loomis Dynamic H&H

Didn't have that much time last week to do alot of artwork, i did manage to squeeze in a few studies and random sketches/doodles.

I'd really like to sit down and actually finish something for once :/

I got alot of time this week to hit those studies hard! i picked up Design and Invention by Michael Hampton and also the Vilppu Drawing Manual, started going through them a few days ago. I heard they cover gestures fairly well.

Also going to put that Gesture Drawing Tool to use.

Nice stuff man! It's full of life, flow and energy! Can I borrow some life from you I think I am too technical.

Do you want to focus only on characters? Or is that just for now? Tip for your props/still life study's: Maybe you can practise some perspective or follow these assignments: Yoitisi Island Hope it's any help for you.
