Lookin' good. I like the eagle head.
A bit overdue on some replies.
Istmin52: Thanks for stopping by again! Good feedback. You're right, I need to be a little more brave with pushing the contrast, especially when I'm intending a single light source.
Blueflies: Also good advice! Pay more attention to basic construction... learn basic proportions... before focusing on detailed construction/rendering... makes a lot of sense, but for me it seems easier said than done. =/ Thank you!
SoulReaper: Thanks for the encouragement! Always appreciated
Overworlder: What, you think your overworld is so much better just because it's... well, over ours? hm. maybe it is better...
Last week's life drawings. The model didn't show, so we just drew each other.

Tonight's life drawings.
More than usual made it through the filter and are getting scanned/posted... so either I'm improving or dropping my standards.
If you have useful advice, please help me! I feel like my approach isn't ideal and I don't want to get stuck in bad habits.
Hey! Your on the right track keep i up. One thing to maybe add to your approach would be to measure things after you try eyeballing them? It helps get the proportions correct and it helps train your eye to see how it actually is.
Hey there,
Thank you for your encouraging comment in my sketchbook!
I must say I am really impressed by your life drawings and your rendering. It's quite a put-off to see how well you do while I'm struggling so much with pencils!^^Do you go to art school, or have taken single courses?
I also like your watercolour attempts, I am trying them out as well and I can only encourage you to do more of them, you seem to grasp them a lot better already!
Just one thing about the bone studies; I am not sure whether it helps you memorizing the bones when you are drawing few and render them nicely, rather than try to draw many and try to get them right from memory- if you know what I mean?
Anyway, very nice sketchbook, good to see so much pencil work (I absolutely LOVE the chalk/charcoal ones, teach me!) keep it up!![]()
Alex Eh: You're so right.. I'm aware that I have issues with proportions. I've never taken the time to really study them in depth. I get carried away when I'm drawing and don't pay enough attention to the raw construction stage. Then I realize at the end that it just doesn't look right... Someday I'll take the time to figure them out, it just doesn't seem like much fun =/
LordLouis: Thanks for the compliments! I realize that the bone studies aren't exactly an ideal way to learn bone anatomy. My rationale is that I need to learn anatomy for school anyway (in a lot of detail) and this way I get rendering practice at the same time. Still, all I'm doing is just meticulously copying an existing image. I could probably learn a lot more by repeatedly drawing the whole skeleton in different positions and what not. Also I think I've gotten attached to that kind of drawing simply because I can make it look good... you know, positive reinforcement. What I need to do is step out of my comfort zone and draw more from imagination, more whole body stuff (taking proportions into consideration), etc.
No, I don't go to art school and I've never taken any art courses. I'm currently a neuroscience undergrad, but I'm thinking about wetting my feet in some formal art training when I'm done with this degree (not for a few years still).
Somehow I don't feel like I'm the one to ask for advice on charcoal/chalk. I just put dark tones where I see them and light tones where I see them.. hah
Thanks so much for dropping by. I love the feeling of support I get from this community! Keep posting in your SB and I promise to keep checking it out and telling you to post more. =P
Tonight's life drawings.
last night's life drawings
something
life drawings from tonight.
semester's going pretty well so far.
This week's life drawing.
Obviously, the only drawing I've been doing recently is life drawing. It's not that I'm not interested in anything else, I just haven't had much time to draw other than the 2 hours a week in which I have no other choice. At least I have this club forcing me to just sit down and draw every week, even when school is stupidly busy (which it's actually not right now, so I have no excuse).
Soon I'll try to get to something a little more imaginative.
Still, it's good practice!
first image is 5 min
last four are 10 min each
Nice studies here, I'm pleased to see how many you've done recently.
I can tell you the practice is paying off and the bodies as wholes look good to me.
the faces are particularly well developed but sometimes it looks like you're having trouble connecting heads to bodies. like here and here
Maybe it is not exactly that, but something seems off like with the stoutness of the necks.
I just googled this and this for reference. try applying these in dynamic positions. I have the same problem with heads and bodies and necks.
btw thanks for the kind words on my sb, keep at it man!

Sporus, thanks for the comment and the advice! I see what you mean about the heads/necks. I've definitely noticed when I'm drawing that I have the most difficult time sizing/orienting the head. I usually do it last. Something to work on!
A few from this week
Last night's life drawings.
The proportions are a little bit off in the last one (leg, forearm)... didn't realize I'd gotten the pose wrong until it was about 5 minutes in. oops =/
As soon as someone tells me to do something other than life drawing for a change, I will.
=D
It'll be interesting to see how long it takes...
seeing as the comments have been...
well...
The crickets speak for themselves.

Is that tumbleweed?
*tumbleweed*
Why yes, I believe it is.

Here's a self portrait I did a few days ago.
I guess I was bluffing, as this is something other than life drawing.
=/
Great stuff here so far! I could tell you to do something other than life drawings for a change but I won't, since they are the best practise (and I know I should do them more also). Well maybe you could draw some other stuff from life too? And do more works from imagination also. Oh and study anatomy from the books. I like this self-portrait very much btw.
Now draw more more more![]()
Anatomy is the best practice, nice studies going on. I'd love to see a longer studies too.
Your self portrait is ***** awesome![]()
Thank you Satu, Mindinart, and LordLouis for coming by and commenting!
Here are some life drawings from the past few weeks.
Also, the poster I made for my life drawing club.
Also, a robot.
*reep bromp*
Good work! I can see improvement from the first faces you did to the most recentkeep it up.
Thanks PointyEars. I'll try to keep it up, but I'm afraid my drawing flow is little more than a trickle these days...
A little more:
Life drawing started again. Here's the semester's first session.
Maaan I've put my creative self on the back burner. That makes me sad...![]()
a couple more.
life drawings!
Guess what? More life drawings...
I need to draw something else... but for that I need time. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat.
That's a lie. I'm just lazy.
At least I used a pen this time. I don't usually do that.
These are really solid, especially the top left one. Definitely see a lot of improvement here from the early life drawings. And now that the club is off-duty for a while, it's the perfect time to draw some other things!
