    @jiina - thanks!

I'd rather eat the second one, myself, though. :-) For example, why does, in the first drawing, the light shine from the right, but the shadow also falls to the right? Makes me think it's a clever mirage.

Beautiful studies, please do post more. Maybe a banana?

    Warmest wishes,

Good start, now add more items and experiment with lighting and textures in your still lifes.
    Keep it up.

Very Nice how long did it take for the 2nd apple ? and maybe soften the edge of the shadow down.

I love how you actually made the apples look not round and perfect. Most of the time when I see drawings of apples they're just too perfect. Great job on that

Thank you for the advice on the studies - I'm definitely going to try and expand the subject matter and work on those shadows.

This started as a doodle in between painting apples, and I ended up "finishing" it. I wish I had planned it better because after painting the dragon I couldn't think of any way to integrate it into a composition... Sooo...yeah. And it took WAY too long, I think I ended up spending close to seven hours on it, time that I could have spent on more apples I need to learn to work faster!

I've been trying to paint more landscapes and environments, because I'm not very experienced with them. They were both supposed to be quick photo studies, but ended up taking several hours I also drew a giraffe from a photo.

Crits and advice are greatly appreciated! I'm going to do more environments in the next couple of days.

Here's one more for tonight (photostudy) I tried limiting my time so I would work faster. I tried to do this in an hour, but ran a little over - still faster than my last attempts though! However, I think it shows that I rushed in the quality.

I don't like how it looks very flat and I wasn't able to get the foreground very well either. I'm pretty happy with the two mountains in the background though.

    Crits greatly appreciated!

@Passhunate - thanks! I'll try adding figures in to some of my pieces soon.

I started another mountain piece - I'm trying to "finish" this one. I used a photo for a placeholder for the clouds, but then accidentally flattened the image so I can't just replace that layer :/ I'm not sure if I'm going to paint over it or try and erase them out yet.

    Crits and suggestions appreciated!

I started another environment study. I'm happier with the mountains this time but am really stumped on the foreground. It looks bad no matter what I do :/ It's supposed to be just grass and dirt (mostly dirt). I'm going to work on it more later.

try using some creative brushes, and also study the structure and material patterns on the dirt. think about how reflective it is, the tone variation and patches of detail and contrast towards which the eye is automatically drawn to.

    show us the result

Another quick landscape, also from a photo from cgtextures - I've been starting them an hour or so before I need to be in class so I HAVE to finish it quickly, unfortunately, that doesn't make me work faster, it just makes me late for class.

Some monster doodles - the one in the bottom left is the original (a pig) which I duplicated and modified five times. They are numbered in the order that I painted them. They were fun to do

    JesseM & Mario - Thanks!

Zou - also thanks! I tried using a photo texture in the piece in this post, but I think it ended up a little too obvious :/ I know better for next time now though.

I tried refining my favorite(s) of my pig doodles into a single more finished design - it's not as polished as I'd like it to be but it's going to have to do for today

Going to try the same thing as last time - variations of a single base drawing. Even though this is still pretty blocky looking, I think I'm going to just start on the variations because I felt like I wasted a lot of time doing detail that just was painted over in the end on the last one.

Yongs - thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not very good at rendering and have yet to find a magical study that will make me good at it

Worked a little bit more on yesterday's greyscale design, I think I went a little too far with the textures again but I'm planning to paint over them and add a little more detail so hopefully it will blend in.

That zebra and buffalo are goddamn great. I love them. These newest fantasy creatures are also really interesting. You seem to have a talent for using vivid color. Also good thinking doing a grayscale sketch before busting out the color.

Started this one this morning - also from a pencil sketch. It's still in progress however I want to let it sit for a while - I've been staring at it for a few hours now. I'd really like critiques on this one, if anybody has any advice on where to bring the piece.
