    BFA Gallery Show (*Large DL*)

I just had my BFA presentation this past Thursday here at CIA and I snapped some quick digital photos of the gallery setup and thought I'd post them.
The BFA presentation is the big final show that everyone has to do before they graduate. The main gallery at the school is divided up into 20 spaces and youre allowed one day to set up, and then your show is up for 2 days. On one of those 2 days, you have to hold a talk for about an hour where you present the work and are addressed questions by faculty and students. Big crowds show up and its a pretty big deal.

okay anyways, on with the pictures

Left wall... the portrait(second one over) was done in Oils and is 18"x24". the painting on the end is also Oils, done from sketches and reference, and is 36"x36". the rest are all about 8.5"x11"

Center wall... the first image is about 18"x24", Graphite, done from imagination. the second image is approx. 40"x50", also Graphite, done almost entirely from imagination. the final image is Oil on canvas, appox. 30"x40", done from sketches and reference.

Right wall... First painting is Oil, 3'x4'. the two smaller images are sketchbook size and the final image is made of 5 square drawings all 4"x4"

Back wall... the 2 paintings are 2'x4', Oil on board. The rest are all sketchbook size pages

and heres various close-ups of work on the walls, and a case I set up that had a couple of my sketchbooks and various photographs I've taken

    graphite, approx. 18"x24"

(this picture was taken a while ago, before is was framed) 40"x50", graphite on paper toned with oil and turpenoid

sorry about the glare. oil on canvas 30"x40"

    oil on canvas, 3'x4'

    each square is 4"x4"

let me know what you guys think

    wes

the second to the last photo of the see thru case there is a picture in there seems to be a costume party or something but the two guys are throwing up signs. I remember seeing that in one of your previous post.. It would help me to see how you translated it.

 Great work as always. It's good to see traditional oils of more simple subject matter where we can see in detail the study of shapes, colors, value and figure, in the Mc Donalds piece, and the painting of the couple sitting on the chair. Nice character illustrations as well.

Very impressive. Highly inspiring work. I love seeing it hanging up there too. It is nice too see the space it occupies, something that I lament about my digital work. Call me a freak, but I love the smell of the oils hanging on the wall too. Linseed and damar give me a great creative buzz. Now I have to start collecting some of your work. Great job. How did the showing go? Did your college promote it well. I hope so. What is your next step?

damn, thanks for posting these pics Wes. Your presentation is very elegant. I'm envious of the wall space you get - but then agian you deserve every inch.

your paintings are excellent. The pictures of the person in the fastfood joint strike a nerve on just how depressing those places can be.
My favorite is the boat full of characters driven by the monkey.

thankyou for putting these up, it makes me enthusiatic/anxious about my show in 3wks., I'll try to get some pics then.

I would be interested to hear what you had to say to the audience, I also think I spied some un-posted sketches that would go might fine in the daily sketchbook thread...

thanks agian dude. awesome as always

Is it still up Wes? <edit> 2days, bummer.<edit> I live south of Cleveland and your stuff has always been worth the drive up the old CIA. Will any of these pieces be show in any local Cleveland galleries like 1300 or Nimbus?

That couch in the piece with Jacqueline VonTesmar and Doan Buu looks familiar.
