    CrownLullaby's sketchbook!

I decided to get a sketchbook here, since I'm finally getting enough confidence to post here and my teacher keeps on putting emphasis on making a sketchbook here. I'm hoping to improve and learn a lot, so critics are most welcome ^^

These are a speedpaint and a longer work respectively. The girl took about fifty minutes, the portrait about two hours. Both are drawn from stock from Deviantart, but only the first one was meant to look alike.

    Stock in order:

Welcome and it's a great place to learn here. You hit the values on the portrait, but not on the girl.

    Long time no post!

Little update with a WIP of an archer-girl. It's been a while since I drew anything like this. Comments are most welcome.

Hey there! Love the portrait at the beginning, but would love to see the full figure studies given as much atention. Tonally, the first one is a bit of a mystery to me, would love to see an update. The second is much better, however - very balanced, everything going in the right direction, great work, tonally. I even like the composition, even though it is cropped too tightly. Don't disappear!

    Warmest wishes,

    Ana

@jansi: Thanks for the comments! I appreciate it ^^

Slight update on my archer, and also a painting from some weeks ago from a jellyfish. First color in here! I like jellyfish a lot.

Am I the only one who can't see my thumbs anymore?

Anyhow, just a little sketch to show that I'm alive.

Looking good so far! I love the very first sketch of the girl. On the archer girl, her face does look a bit skewed.

    Keep it up!

My favorite images are the pool scene and the one with the reclining woman (the latter because I myself wanted to draw a reclining woman, but I couldn't get it to look right).

A big thanks to all of you!
@Seili: Yeah, I agree with that - I don't really like the look of her face. I'll redo it some time ^^

In the meanwhile, I'm back from vacation and here is something I'm working on. I'm trying a different way of colouring, since I think my usual style is too much like a watercolour. You don't see it that much in black and white, so I'm practising colours now. Concrit gladly appreciated! I've only started decently on the pants, though XD
I also uploaded the sketch - I like the sketch better than the paint atm.

    Today's work!

AND YES. IT IS A GUY.
Does he look a bit like one? It's probably the first guy portrait I EVER drew or something. I'm known to avoid them ._____. I drew this one because I started a new rp with a friend of mine, and my character was new and thus needed drawing. XD
Second, a series of studies I did. The upper ones are from posemaniacs.com, the two latest ones are the only good ones from the Gesture Drawing Tool. I failed with the Tool, so I'm planning on doing it more often (to get better). Concrit appreciated.

Quick update before I go to bed.

First one is a speedpaint of an hour, theme was Wild West. I neglected her boots and hands a bit >.< Don't really like her face, but overall I like it ^^

Second one is more of a funny. I'm doing speedpaints in a group, and if there is a tie we have a special 'Death Match', in which you have to paint something in five minutes. The theme was Star wars, so... I guess it explains itself

    Thanks for watching!

First traditional sketch, haha. If I'll get around it, I'll post some sketches from figure drawing class this morning. We were the models. XD

I enjoyed drawing this one! Came out better than expected.

You're doing all the right things; the only thing I would say would be to push your values more.

You're really getting better! Expecially your brushstrokes are much better in the latest painting. They look more confident. BEfore, everything was just too messy. To many thick strokes and no nice blending. Sketches and studies don't really look good that way

@Jacobanderson: THanks! I know, values are mu biggest problem. I've already improved - that's how bad it was xD I'll try to mind it next time.

@TheFallenAngel: I'll do that tomorrow, perhaps! I'm studying anatomy now, so I might do a figure study in colour.

@Valyavande: Haha, I hope so XD Thank you! I looked through your sketchbooks, you have some very nice creature sketches in there, loving it.

Colour? In my sketchbook? THE HORROR.

Wip, I'll probably finish it. Started as a study for a face. I've been really motivated to draw lately ^^ If there is any feedback you can give me, please do!

Awesome sketchbook! I love your style, and the portraits are stunning! Your anatomy is great, and seems to have improved alot from your first drawings. Keep on the good work

Nice! I like the ideas behind your designs and your drawings as well. You seem to have a good feel of the anatomy and structure. What I think you could work more in is your values, as they're weak in your non referenced works.

    Cheers!

@Neviah: Haha, thanks XD I'm still practising on portraits, though. I'm not good enough yet >.< Practice!
@Gildorek: Thank you for your comment! I have indeed some problems with values and contrast. I'm trying to work on them step by step (I'm slow, haha).

Anyway, update to show that I'm ALIVE! Barely. Examinations are coming up, but I want to have some stuff to show my teachers as an extra, so expect lots of studies. My exam is all about carnival characters, which will be awesome. I'll try to update more now!

First one was a speedpaint of 35-40 minutes, and the other one is trying out some colouring technique I saw in class today, I guess.. Pahahah.

Wow, you are improving at a really impressive rate! I agree you need to work on your values a little but your lines and anatomy studies are going very nicely.

@DecayingLolita: Thanks! It still feels slow though, haha I'm doing my best.

Speedpaint of today! +-45 mins in class. it's been a while since I coloured in that speedpainting class XD New technique for it, too. Crit is always welcome, especially on how to make the skin more lively without falling into the very obvious colours! Thank you

    Edited for another speedpaint.
