Hi! I've been watching Concept.org for a while and I saw so much great work on this forum. I said to myself "I need to get in on that." So here I am, just a hard working art student with a lot to learn, posting my work with the hope that I'll get some serious feedback and critique from this community. I've been on the look out for a great anatomy book for artists (any suggestions?)

My personal critiques is that I should work on (in addition to general improvements)
Male anatomy
Animals
Backgrounds (thats a big one)
Figures in space

I thank you in advance for any suggestions on how to improve.

Thanks for the welcome Littlebones. I have seen Amano's work before and I can see what you mean. I like to scribble in bic pens sometimes and they have that same organic yet scratchy texture that he uses in in his etchings.

I just came back from a Lecture by Bioware-Mythic's Art Director Peter Lipman and I feel so completely inspired! I feel like I could run a mile or just stay awake for days drawling or whatever! I wasn't completely sure about the game-design industry or concept art until I heard this lecture and now I know what I want to do with my art and it is the most amazing feeling. Im like tripping on a manic high. I was so nervous before the talk and I couldn't figure out why and now I know that nauseous feeling was excitement and a sign that this kind of industry was the place for me.

I making a resolution from now on to work harder than ever at improving my art. Starting with the promise to post a painting or sketch every week.

Whether anyone is watching this thread or not I just had to get the energy Im feeling this moment out there!

You give yourself tonnes of great advice - the hard part is fallow through (I know it is for me for sure!)
So far looks like you've got a good handle on the figure, good proportions and what not- I think more specific studies is the way to go- pick a theme- texture, lighting- folds- blah blah blah and do some studies. '
You can never do too many studies!

An obscured self portrait assignment I'm currently working on for class. Any advice on how to improve it would be welcome.

You have a very interesting sketchbook! I really like the female characters and the way you refined them.
Your 10th post is one of my favourites, Such lovely flow and she is pretty of course.
Will you be adding colour to it, or is it finished?

Hi Carmen, I love what I see here, the studies are great. You control anatomy and shading pretty well, so I think you have the hardest part done!
Also nice design sense, I liked this one.

Interesting self-portrait! The eyes (particularly their position) seems better on the previous post in my opinion. It may be an illusion due to the very dark plain background in this last post, but there doesn't seem enough forehead by comparison? I like the pose though, reminds me of religious paintings / martyr themes... for some reason!

Beware some of the colours getting muddy also - unless this is deliberate? Making shadows deeper rather than darker will really kick the main pose out from the background - and make it warmer rather than grey in the shade.

It was pleasure to look at your SB. I agree with thegrayslayer, the forehead seems chopped off in your self-portrait. Great studies.

Thanks for the advice Grey Slayer. It dose have a martyrishness to it, I sort of think of the scarf as an executioners mask.here is some more work on it and the crapy low rez photo I was working from. I agree looking back the forehead is short but I am tilting my head backward so its tricky. Also I intentionally exaggerated the tilt of the head and the curve of the neck. I might go back an measure the forehead again and the brow.
Maybe I got it right this time.

I just wanted to pop in and say your sketchbook is inspiring, and especially I've enjoyed the figure sketches crammed onto your sketchpad! Did you use one of those Artist Model books? I have a few of those and one of the poses looked familiar.

Thanks to everyone thats stopped by recently, I am finding now the best way to get some feed back on my work is to give it to others, so I'll try to visit and leave a comment on anyone's sketchbook that visits here. I've also been looking at the sketchbooks that get bumped daily to the front page, there truly are so many talented people here, and out there, in the real world. Yet I don't find this discouraging, its actually driving me more to improve. Concept.org really is such an amazing resource because of those talent and helpful people in it. YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!

Anyhow enough mush, this next up date is just some scribbles and such that I wasn't sure I should post because they are unfinished (and Im not sure I ever will finish them) but then I remembered this is a sketchbook and not everything should or needs to be polished or whatever. so here we go...

love the sb so far. the self portrait is looking promising, however i would say that the part of your face not covered by the vail seems a lot more elondated in your drawing than the photo. i always make my characters too thin and long, and is something quite hard to notice. most of the time you can just grab the canvas and squash it down, its suprising how much thicker things are in reality than they seem. if your working on a few layers try ctrl+A to select all then crrl+shift+c to copy merged to experiment.

are you gunna add theother figures in they looked good? keep up the good work, i can see this being a popular sb soon.
