    Draconius's sketchbook

    hi guys!

my name is Dimi and I'm trying to become a good concept/3D artist. criticism and feedback more then welcome.

I'm a college dropout but that doesn't mean i'm not dedicated haha.
the reason i dropped out is that i really don't like programming or theorethic stuff. and there aren't any art schools here that do like industrial design / concept art/character and creature design.
and moving to another country isn't exactly an budgetary capable solution. gnaffle gnaffle.

no I love making art stuff. It all began with the Warcraft II manual. that i bought as a kid. it made me monster crazy. samwise you are a hero!
i haven't been drawing all that much untill i turned like 21 two years ago.

some of my biggest influences and idols these days are

Dave Rapoza and Dan Warren . the stuff they do for nooblets like me is awesome.
Carlos Cabrera: he has awesome tutorials. and just makes kickass stuff.
Trevor Claxton. all round awesome artist.
    kekai kotaki. because dragons.
danny luvisi. mad madly skilled artist.
joe vriens and joe mad. i put these two together because the comic book style these guys have is ..pants watering.
samwise. the dude that started it all. i hope i one day get to kneel before the king ^^
glowei. another dude that currently works for blizzard.
feng zhu. who doesn't love this guy.
Mike Butkus. This man is a true old master reincarnated.
Jordy Lakiere. this guy was a student ( now graduated) where i went that i looked upto)
Oskar and pol kuijken. who I pretty much annoy to death asking for feedback :p.

and tons of others. srry if you aren't on here.

but hey if you make art. one luv.

okay so i know this isn't a dairy. The reason i'm writing all this is because now that i did drop out of college. pretty much all my time will be going to making art. and with this i state that i will not stop untill i get good enough
to invite all artists mentioned above on a barbeque.

this is my sole purpose. it will be done.

now i need you guys. to crit the holy shizznizzles out of me.
    i will be forever gratefull.

    greetings,

    Dirty D. (WRITTEN ON 2012/07/10).

First off, very cool monsters and the digitals stuff is nice too. My only critique would be to flesh out the pencil work, add more light and shadow some of the drawings look flat.

You have some really neat characters and a really cool style. One thing I might suggest is a study of joints and their musculature, particularly shoulder-type as I find that to be an area of weakness in some of your monsters, particularly ones with humanoid arms. I'm just not always sure how the exactly they move their arms at the shoulder. Otherwise, cool stuff!

"This is a paint and pixel-splattered furnace that forges the swords of artistic mastery. This is a place where swarthy and belligerent dwarves drink turpentine mead, berate their apprentices and slap the trade into their skulls. It's where the anvils are made of graphite, the hammers are as true as rectangular marquee selections and the fires burn with the light of a thousand lensflares." --Jason Rainville

I think you have some really cool character designs and have a good eye for composition. I'd tell you to work on line quality but it seems you are already headed that way. I do think you will benefit from getting more contrast from your pencils, maybe darker darks, lighter lights. And though i am NO authority on digital painting, your Wargen Dude, though really cool, is flattened out by the scale mail pattern. I'm looking forward to seeing you progress. Keep posting.

    Hi! Nice sketches.

I think you're doing a lot of interesting monster designs. Your rendering is a bit inconsistent especially the lighting of your characters. I think you are on the right path with studies like the one you just uploaded, but try to really focus on where the light is coming from in those studies and see if you can show it more clearly.

I Really like the set of five heads in the post from yesterday. They are much clearer presented as designs than your more heavily rendered characters.

    Keep up the good work!

thx a lot obstfelder. maybe i need to do some moviestills. cause i really feel the lack of lighting knowledge. how to make things pop without massive amounts of specular.

    another quickie
