Hey Guys

Finally i found a moment of selfconfidence to begin my sketchbook, at least scketching is the only thing i can do right now, besides my non-art-job.

So these are my goals for the future......i just turned 21 and i´m about to quit my job in July, i´ll move to another city an do nothing but draw. At least as long as i´ve got money to live. YEEHAA.

One thing: This Forum has been the biggest reason for improving myself , so thanks to each and everyone of you.

Welcome to the boards man. Ive seen your replies in other sketchbooks. But couldnt find yours. Now I know why. Very expressive style you have. Characters have a cool look to them. Would love to see some finished character sketches. Great work so far, keep up the good work.

Your last post where you inverted that image doesnt work. Really dig your experimentation, but you have to manage line quality to an extent. Keep it up nonetheless mate.

So, as i got inspired today looking over some speedpaints of well gifted artists, i couldn`t help and tried it out. So what I´m aiming for is if someone of you gifted painters could give me some advice on the colorscheme i used in this picture. I really suck when it comes to coloring, so maybe someone could give me some hints so i´m able to learn from picture to picture......

Edit: I almost forgot......it´s kind of worm with a red lighten head, so I indicated roughly the reflection from the buildings. When i have time I will refine it a little more tomorrw

Good luck in the city. Yes, draw lots, but don't forget to eat. Your use of heavy black lines works well, but make sure you experiment with lots of different techniques and styles, that will also help with motivation when you're feeling uncreative.

Oh you have some really nice stuff! I love the energy you seem to have in your lines and your expressive creativity! You've got the really sketchy sketchbook I've always tried, but Im too damned stuck in my line art ;p

nutter: I totally agree with you , but because of my work, i´ve got just half an hour or something a day to draw. And im not really able to concentrate on totally new things, so actually i grab my wacom and just draw whatever comes out. But as i said in a few month i´ll movin and then i have time to introduce myself to many different styles. I wanna deffenetly join an art course, doing some traditional painting with oils or something. To improve my sense for colors.

Thanks Blaz......I hate myself for not posting more, but i had not much time these days. (That sucks !!!!) ...

...Anyway at least i got some quickies

The first one is maybe my first referenced picture ever, i really want to emphasize more on this .

..i know, the head in the second one is crap , but it was more a coloring try for me. I can´t figure out the right value thing, my colored pictures look always so flat . This time i tried to give the second one more contrast, so at the end i worked with multiply layers, and it turned out at least a little bit better.......but i dunno if that´s the right way to go.

lovin the figure work Delmar. The only crit I have so far is to spend more time with your sketches and to use more confident lines, you know less scratchy. Keep it up.

....but i wasn´t able to finish in time, well i started yesterday. However, i´m quite satisfied how it turend out so far, now it comes to the part of giving the scene more value, where i´m totally helpless....but i try my best to finish it....

You've got a really energetic/ expressive feel to your work, which is a good thing to have. I really dig the girl with the afro, reminds me of a james bond movie intro.

mr delmar i think you have some really nice stuff going on man, some very cool stuff i must say! i really like your design sense and the way you use the digital medium, do you do much pencil stuff? just out of interest offcourse...
cool like i say man i definately wanna see more. i think you for sure have a place in the art/design world.

Hey, Delmar, nice work
A few possible things you could improve ( just in my opinion):
1. Use less saturated colours, in real life the skin is not pure orange/red, the grass not pure green, etc. ( Variation is important, look at reference or real life)
2.The shadows should not be pure black, as said above use some reference photos.
3.The surface of different things has different qualities, try to recreate them through texture, colour, saturation, variation and ...

@don key: Man!!thanks for stoppin by, and for the kind words which doubled my motivation immediately.....Well i hadn´t done pencils for quite a time, i got totally sucked in by the digital media......but looking at some threads (yours included) i really get my motivation back to do some nice rendered pencils.!! (actually i should find out how to do nice pencil renderings in the first place... )
