    Black Tea´s

Hi everyone, my name is Wil, i`ve been drawing since i was a lil kid but only recently started studying seriously, i`m selftaught. I`ve been lurking around conceptart for quite some time admiring the great artists around here, and i finally decided it was time to start a sketchbook, for the purpose of improving, of course, so i will greatly appreciate any tip of advice you can give me.

So today i will be posting some face studies, and i`ll update this sketchbook as often as i can, so i`ll thank any feedback you can give me from now on.

Wow, very nice start! Glad to see that you've got the pen/pencil skills down. More more more!

Thanks Cozmo, glad you liked it, time to dump what i`ve been doing lately, a lot of quick figure studies, some gesture drawings, more faces and a few sketches for some drawings in progress.

Here are some more studies i did today. I`m trying to get as good as i can with human anatomy and portraits, so i`m mostly doing studies such as these and some gesture drawing too, i was wandering if i was right focusing on these kind of studies, any piece of advise? Thanks! And i just realized my hands suck, so i`ll be probably drawing a lot soon.

Well, it seems somehow my scanner is not working, so this is going to be a shorter update than planned. I got my very first wacom a few days ago, so i have been playing with it, it`s awesome, so next updates should have more digital stuff. I`m new to digital painting so I would really appreciate any advice and help you guys could give me for my development as an artist. I`m still working on some of these but here they go.

Thanks surus! Well i`ve been lazy for some time. Now that i got a wacom i`ve been trying to figure out how to use colors, since i never tried them before ( i always worked with grayscales) and i seem to be having a lot of problems with them, i`m mainly trying to get some decent flesh tones, not easy. Here are some thingies i`ve done, i would really appreciate any advise on colors, maybe a book recommendation, basic theory, how to approach the subject, anything would help me, thanks in advance!

Diligent studies I see. Cool stuff! Keep up the intensity!
BTW, was your first digital portrait based off of Sarah Silverman? Cause for some reason it reminds me of her.

Not much today, some quick pencils of my roommate`s profile and some colorful thingies i`m not really proud of, but it`s good to have some variety, right?

I have something about values and tones in my sketchbook (page 2) from Andrew Loomis, that might help you a little.

    About the choice of colours:
To make a picture look good and not make something stick out, colour should be used multiple times on a picture. It doesnt even need to be the exact same colour, reduce the saturation, make it brighter or whatever, just dont make one piece bright green if theres nothing else even close to green.

It can also help when you choose your colour palette beforehand.
Lets say 4 colours that you want to use and you will stick with these (and variations of them).

If you want to go further, mixing colours would be a good way.
The demon up there looks basically good by since the skin is one and the sme colour all over, it feels weird or kinda boring.
Check out old masters paintings and you will see, that there are really fluctuating colours in a field you would say it's basically just one colour.

I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks a lot for the useful advice shockowaffel, you are right, that demon looks boring indeed, i`ll try to limit my palette by choosing some colors beforehand for my next painting and see if i can come up with something decent looking. For now this is how the last one ended up looking, and also a new one.
