hey Satu, nice studies and great work on that white box.
It really enhances the composition hehe.
But seriously. Your studies are getting better. I like the edges in the last 2 (soft vs. hard edges)
    Keep going strong, mighty goblin!

Your digital environments are great--so clean! How many brushes do you use on them?

i like your sketchbook very much! its nice to see your progress...

in #488 you mentioned, that you find it hard to learn to draw/paint from imagination. i have the same problem right now. maybe we can share ideas or insights.

of course drawing lots of the things you want to do from imagination from reference first, makes sense. eg lots of landdscape studies to come up with your own ones afterwards. thats what you do. my idea (has to be proven right) would be to cover study and ref afterwards and to try to replicate the image once more from memory. what do you think of this?

My idea behind it is that you are forced to come up with a scene/object of the kind you want to produce from memory. And by doing this you also have to imaginate part of it, because you surely cant remember every detail of what you drawed before. On the one side, it helps to strengthen the memory (visual library) and on the other hand you produce an instance of what you want to imagine, guided by a real thing. Does this make any aense?

shigaburiga: thanks! I use pretty few brushes.. should learn to use more. Usually just about 1-3. I've used lasso tool pretty much recently and mixer brush tool.

embee: thank you! I think your idea is really good and it makes a lot of sense. It would really be useful to try and do some stuff from memory afterwards. Also I think you shouldn't be afraid to use references even on the stuff you do from imagination. Lot of artists do that, but for some reason I haven't done it that much. Like first you create some sketch from imagination and then you e.g. look for tree refs and house refs etc.
Let's try to keep pushing it and maybe we'll learn this some day!

Emh.. screenshot study from the newest Tomb Raider. Love the game. ..but this screenshot study.. craaaap

I think it looks good! Just push the value and saturation a bit. I also really like the thumbs in post #488 - more please! The more you work from imagination, the easier it gets. And when you encounter something that's really got you stuck, look up some refs and learn from them. That's a great way to identify what you need to study more of. Keep up the good work!

Your studies are coming along. How about you try and spent a little more time on them ? Ya know, add some little details, try to hit the values or colors even better etc ?

Moi! Very nice studies, especially on the environments. I love the painterly style where I can see the brushstrokes. I'd like to see more imaginary stuff from you as well.

    twelvex: thanks! :]

Soo.. I have had a mixed feelings about my five stars for some time now.. I mean I've always wanted to have five stars and I really appreciate them, but I wished that I would have gotten them when I'm actually good enough for them. Now I feel that people come here and are so disappointed to find all this crap in here. -_- So yeah I think the old system was better where you needed more stars to see your ratings. Though don't know if it's coming back?

Oh well.. By the way I don't think I've told you this ? but I'm pregnant and I'm gonna be a mom! Due date is in July. It's gonna be another big challenge in my life, but an awesome one. I'm hoping that I will find the time to drawing and updating this still too. I know I once talked about my goals of how I wan't to be awesome when I turn 30 but since it's next year I think I need to refresh my goals a little. Maybe when I'm 35 I wanna be so awesome painter that my kid can be proud of me.

Anyways here's some fast scribbling from imagination and... a battlepig! His name is Mr Snuggles.
Something I've been doing every now and a then but don't think I'll ever get it finished.
