ROUND #233:: Valentine Special :: Steampunk Aphrodite

DESCRIPTION

Steampunk Aphrodite

As you all know it’s Valentine’s day tomorrow, so it’s time for a ChoW special! This week we challenge you to come up with an original design for the Goddess of Love: Aphrodite.

Born from the sea, Aphrodite was so beautiful that in fear of jealousy, Zeus had her married to the ugly Hephaistos. She however had many lovers on the side, ranging from gods like Ares, to mere humans like Anchises. Many stories and myths exist around Aphrodite, and she has equivalents in many different cultures.

This week we want you to come up with an original new design for Aphrodite, Steampunk style!

We want to see a design that reflects her character and symbolic meaning, but is fresh and surprising. We don’t want the typical half nude women in white flowy garments.

Design a Steampunk Aphrodite!

Both “steampunk” and “goddess of love” must be visible in the design.
Think beyond the pretty nude girl and design an interesting character with personality.

THE RULES
If you do not stick to these 6 simple rules, you will not be added to the poll.

1) FOLLOW THE TOPIC.
It's about designing the character of the topic. The environment or side characters are far less important.

2) SHOW AT LEAST ¾ OF YOUR DESIGN.
This is not an illustration contest, but a design contest. Show your whole design!

3) POST YOUR FINAL IN THE FINALS THREAD.

4) INCLUDE WIPS WITH YOUR FINAL.
Show your work in progress and post (links to) this in the finals thread!

5) SAVE YOUR FILES IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT. Chow##_Nickname
example: "CHOW#100_Oblio.jpg"

No final.jpgs please!

6) PLACE THE IMAGE IN A FRAME WITH YOUR NAME/TOPIC

(you can add CA logo, etc).

About quality - as general rule: if your shapes and values are not decent - you are out. Watch proportions, perspective etc. we need perfectly readable shapes and coherent, consistent values.

my first ideas: she can fill her victims with love by vaccinate it to them. she handle the dose with her powerful belt. the symbol on the chain should be a swan.

This one sounds fun.

Crossed leg seated poses = kryptonite. Hoping to use this one to get a bit better at them, and maybe some more dramatic lighting than last weeks.

Noshot I'm not too familiar either but I think you can just slap some goggles on her and she's good to go!

I dunno what I'm doing but I did manage some roughs. She is either flying in her airship looking out the window, or walking around with her steam-powered...spider...cyborg machine?

But how do I make her look like Aphrodite?

Hi all, sounds like a fun topic.

I see a few people are struggling abit for inspiration. I was the same when I heard 'Steampunk Aphrodite' but there is LOADS of stuff online which might help.

Heres abit of cool stuff I found which could inspire some ideas.

Don't think i'm gonna have time to do this one but I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Also, kinda obvious but a cool place for steampunk ideas

there is already one good thing : I might have found style of dress for me O..O didnt know that there is such thing as Steampunk-clothing but this rocks the shit out of pretty much everything I have seen so far concerning clothes... !

I know, right? My inner "Dandy" is squealing as we speak!

Also - I posted this one in the reference thread, but I guess it won`t hurt - OMG THAT DRESS - Gowns, night gowns, underwear - you name it! Original historical clothing as well! Just go through everything there from 1837.-1901. (Victorian era). Not steampunk, but it should give you the "vibe" you should be going after. And accessories, and shoes and...*o*
