Hey everyone, that's just an awesome idea! It already makes me want to start sketching and drawing right now
I tried to create a ChoreWars account for that yesterday, but had some problems there. When first trying to log in it didn't let me, so I assumed it hadn't created an account. So then I tried again to create an account, and even got as far as joining the group with your invitation-link, but it seemed that the other account was actually in there, too. But again, after loggin out I'm unable to log in again, with either of them. I'm going to ask for help in their forums, so I hope you're not upset about some new double account in your group...

Anyway, I hope to join in this project as soon as that's sorted out, as it's just a great thing!

Brilliant! Its about time some people joined. Please create your own adventures if you're doing something different to the ones I've already created (e.g. if you're painting, make a balanced quest for color studies with acrylics). Make sure they're balanced though, look at the ones I've already made as a reference!

@foxflake: no problem, which account is the one you'll be using? I will remove the other one from the group.

@ceddo: Ah, great; I was really sorry I caused such a mess. Actually I cannot log in with either of them, if you'd be so nice to delete both I'd give it another try Thanks so much!

Alright, exiled your 2 accounts foxflake. I also added "Henchman" status to all of the people in the party, which means you can create your own quests. I'm thinking about 20xp per hour of solid work, so create your quests accordingly (don't make them overpowered!).

Also keep in mind that when claiming your reward, you can allocate half xp or double xp. This would be useful for tasks like Observational drawings, which can be huge and detailed or small and quick. I'm gonna work on adding more quests soon, but for now I'm going out!! woo getting drunk!

Oh I have a question. :raises hand:

Where are we going to post all our work? or are we going to post it. I think in here would be the obvious choice...but if anyone else has any ideas.

Awesome to have you on board, Droid!

Psychobuddy, go for it! Post whatever work you claimed the XP for, along with the name of the quest you claimed it with and how long it took. For example:

    Quest: "A3 Page of Anatomical Studies", 0.5 x 60 =30xp, approx. 1 hour.
Comment: I did it on A4 paper so awarded myself half XP.

Also, I'm thinking of adding a default size for each of our quests. For example, if the quest is "A3 page of constructional drawings" and you only did an A4 page, you can award yourself half XP and add a little comment underneath explaining why. OR we could make it a default time for each quest, like someone had the idea for in "Figure Line Drawing" quest. By the way, I LOVE the fact that you made a location called the Graphite Mines. hahaha

last possibility: we just set the template that 60xp per hour is appropriate, and create our quests around that template. E.g. I know gesture drawings usually don't take long, so I made the quest "A4 page of gesture drawings" worth 10xp, which would translate to about half an hour of work. is that good?

Any other ideas on how to refine our system?

EDIT: I don't think it's necessary to post all your work, as some of us will be in too much of a rush to always scan/photograph and upload. But it's definitely a motivator for the others to post up your work when you have the time to! So go ahead

thanks, locations seem fun, too bad we can't make a story line or something >.< who knows maybe if this takes off more time could be put into a more "course" style excercise.

AS for the template, so far I've only gone with the 1xp per minute of work template. Though ofc 60 minutes of concentration on a single illustration might be worth alot more than 60 minutes of doodling so yeah adjust the quests we make accordingly, besides, its up to us to be honest- if we cheat the system we're only really cheating ourselves so might as well be fair (if not harsh) to us.

Lets enjoy the practice, and great idea about posting here.

Alright guys here's some gestures. Took half the xp. Also there aren't exactly "gestural" in the sense that they aren't really Vilpuu style, but hey I like doing them this way better. Also excuse the crappy pics...me and my scanner have been having issues lately.

Edit: they cam out clearer than I thought...oh and I forgot to say, 30 seconds each...

    Good work psychobuddy!
It's great to see people are starting to claim XP, we're even seeing some competition here! Haha.

Haven't been doing any artwork lately because these are the preparation days for my end of year exhibition. When I finish this, I will come back full force though!

Little-maiden, I agree about not being able to make a storyline same with the lack of a community chatroom - oh well, the entire site isn't very developed. I'm thinking making our own adapted, artist-oriented version of the site would be a fun project if anyone is interested!

Thanks Ceddo, I'll have more work up later. I'd love if we could have a more specialized version of the site, but I would have no idea how to help...

I agree about the changes on the ratio of points to time, and that it's up to us to be honest. I also think though that some people have done the same challenge a few times now, and while practice is good, you should think about trying out the other ones. Doing a few pages of boxes will help you a lot, sure, but doing it everyday won't change much after that.

I'm quite enjoying this thing so far, the site is a great idea to give people incentives for otherwise boring or difficult tasks.

Personally I believe that if you're following this, in regards to what Droid posted,

If you've never done the excercise before, post your first attempt on this page, if you're repeating the quest as a means of practice (for example gesture studies) just post it in your SB. Theres no point on doing 10 gesture studies and posting it all here. I say claim the XP you see fit for your work, then just place the comment "In my sketchbook" when you're done. Theres no use to clutter up this thread with the same studies over and over. I'd say use your head, if its a loooong study, or a finished piece, then obviously, post it here and in your SB so everyone can see. if its just a quick study post the first attempt maybe even the 50th, just not everything in between. That stuff should be in your SB anyways.

Jesus, looks like a lot of people have hopped on board. I'm logging on every now and then to level you up to "Henchlings" so you can create and edit your own quests, but haven't been up to much artistically in the past few weeks. I'll see if I can get something productive done tomorrow, and compete with these XP demons I see on the top of the scoreboard!

Heres my actual attempt at a colour study, 30-40 mins (most of it spent correcting the boxes trying to get that crisp shape in PS!) and then working from what little knowledge I have regarding the issue. Hopefully its just a starting base so I know how I am now in order to correct what I don't know.

    Hey everyone xD
Finally did some bigger study from a photography made by Marcus Ranum (www.ranum.com). Actually painted most of it on saturday and did some refinements yesterday, but took me quite a long time anyway...Done for the "Finished Piece" adventure.

Hey I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything but I just wondered if this was still open? I did join the party on Chore Wars, but still wondering. Just trying to get back into art after what little I could do vanished after playing WoW too much, I've now kicked that habit and figured I should turn my weakness into a strength, this really seams a good place to go for that considering it is RPG based so yeah. Thanks.
