    Dblock's Daily Sketchbook

Hi folks. My name is Durrell Odom, and I have been in this community for quite a while, I also just begun my freelance career as an illustrator/designer. I am 26 years old, a college graduate hailin from the Inland Empire, about 45 miles east of Los Angeles, California, and was an intern at Film Roman on the Marvel's Avenger and the new Spiderman series coming in February 2012. Along with starting my freelance career, I currently study anatomy, and color. Also I am a true hip hop head and fan of basketball, but I am NO purist. But of course, I am a big fan of fine art, cartoons/anime, films, manga, music, and anything with great storytelling in it. So, as whom is already familiar with my work, I am starting a new sketchbook heading off into the new year. So this a brief info of my history and background and I would like to get to know each person on this site a little more, so please check out my work and please feel free to comment on my work. It would be greatly appreciate it. Thanx.

    Durrell

    hey,

good start. i like your graphite characters, but they look a bit flat. a good way to sort this out is by doing a colour drawing and seeing which colours are dark and which are bright, and how they blend. try it with pencil crayon if you're intimidated by paints, and your characters will 'pop' some more. you can also do shading with a dedicated light source, but you may need to work on your 3D form some more as it mostly looks like contour. post some bigger drawings/zoomed in - as these are kind of hard to see.

Thanx, Catish. My knowledge on color is limited. I've been practicing on digital lately though. Here is a WIP study of John Singer Sargent on Painter XI.

@APerson4ever Thanx for the compliment. As far as drawing people. Try studying anatomy a little bit everyday. American Artist Drawing Magazine has an issue on how to study anatomy. Check it out.

    SSquir33 Thanx man
