    Here's some new stuff.

    - mouth studies.
    - Worked some more on my school assignment.
    - tweaked my jungle painting, tried out some home made brushes.

    Suggestions and crits are appreciated.

It's an interesting scene you've painted but so far all the eye catching parts are in the lower left part, the pale blue light gives a good sense of depth to the rest of the jungle. Are you planning on doing anything with the higher canopy?

Hey Mila I'm liking your WIP, a little critique:

Check your values frequently, it's a bit dark I think you could push the lighter values a bit more to make it 'pop'; but it's looking good! Keep it up!

Caspia - You're right about the left side of the picture. I'll hope I can even it out by clearing up the upper canopy and adding more detail to the right and center. I was thinking of raising the canopy way up.

Saltfox - Thanks. I will work on that. :]

I haven't touched the jungle piece lately due to school assignments and other studies, but I really dó want to see it properly finished. Meanwhile, I've been producing all kinds of things.

    - First up: two new sketches for environments in perspective.
Don't really like the first one yet, looks kinda boring. I have 'an idea' what I
want to do with the 2nd one. It will probaly end up as a scifi piece.

    - Sunny told me to check out daily sketchgroups; which I did. I made this quick character based on one of the daily sketchgroup topics, but dind't bother posting it. I'll probaly end up in the EOW subforum :] Still, thanks to Sunny for the advice!

    - Hogarth studies from my new book - I swear, I felt like I was drawing whistles.

    - Then I tried Loomis, which I liked better as well.

    - More Hogarth.

    - Doodles around with making a brush. Then made a tree with it.

    - Cartooonish drawings.

That's all for today - I'll try and finish up the jungle piece ánd finally finish another piece that's coming along.

I'll just go ahead and call this one finished. I still don't like the entrance to the building, but I spend too much time on it already. I might change it later but now it's time to get cranking on the others!...

    Enjoy!

    Detail shots below.

There's visible improvement from your initial posts to the newer ones good progress .
My suggestion for your perspective studies (which are pretty boss) would be to move your vanishing points farther apart. That will help avoid the warped look. (see example below)
An extreme shot can work with something like post 67, but can look a little weird for a shot like post 8 image 2.

I really like the way your textures are working in post 62.

    More plz

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

I really, REALLY love your more organic environments. The trees are especially great. I agree about trying to add some lighter values in there to increase contrast.

For your cityscapes, consider playing with atomospheric perspective. Due to particles in the air (moisture, smog, etc.) things that are farther away get muddier, fuzzier, and closer to gray. To show depth or distance, consider using muddier colors and fuzzier lines for things in the background or father towards the ground for your overheads.

    Looking forward to more!

Rhubix: Thanks you for the kind words and advice. I've been told about the vanishing points before, but your drawings made it more clear to me! I'll bear this in mind for the latest piece. More's coming!

autumncoloredmelodie I'm glad you like it. I will try and do more organic drawings. I've also added more lighter values in the update below; it's getting there, but I think it still needs some more work.

Man I'm slacking lately... But I made something, and it's a very quick arctic environment study.

I also tried to do some pencil drawing again, but it's been ages since I've handdrawn things it seems. I really need to practice more... and draw more, obviously.
Anywho, I was reading one of my favorite Gaunt's Ghosts novels again and I figured it would be cool to try and imagine what a Wirewolf would look like when hanging from it's gibbet. It's horrible looking, but I might try a few more of them later.

    *edit*

I'm also going to call this jungle piece finished. I'm fed up with it. Time for something else. :p

Had a great weekend. But the week is starting again... time to get busy.
Here I tried out to work with the lasso tool, inspired by the incredible work of jamajurabaev. See his work here for example! http://jamajurabaev.deviantart.com/a...pe-I-188093663

    Anyway, here's my quick attempt.

*edit* worked a little more on it.

your paintings are a little blurry i would push the contrast more.. try to work in greyscale first.. color is confusing in the beginning .

    keep it up

you have a nice learning curve in only 3 pages, keep it up and you will become a monster!
Over all you could create a bigger contrast in your paintings.

MarcSampson : More contrast, got it. I will keep that in mind. Thanks.

TomdeVis : Thank you, I'll do my best!

Pfew! So, for the last three days I've been working hard in a team of 5 ( along with 8 other teams ) in a competition to design and build a game. The game was to be played with a mechanical tool built by other students, functioning as a revaliidation tool. I made a few backgrounds and worked on a healthbar.

You can see a little of our work below! Will post more in a later stage. :]

    *Edit* WE WON !!!!

My lack of posting and drawing is unacceptable, and that's why I decided to spend my one week vacation as productive as possible! This week I'm going to follow a tight study schedule I've drawn up myself.

I will focus on colour and environments on one day, and figure drawing, posture, etc. on another.

    MO 02-05
    - 20 Human Poses/gestures
    - 2 hour Loomis study
    - 1 Character of the Day

    TU 03-05
    - 5 Greyscale environment thumbnails
    - 1 Greyscale thumbnail picked out and polished
    - 1 Hour color study

    WE 04-05
    - 20 Poses/gestures
    - 2 hour Loomis study
    - 1 Character of the Day

    TU 05-05
    - 10 Greyscale environment thumbnails
    - 1 Greyscale thumbnail picked out and polished
    - 1 Hour color study

    FR 06-05
    - 30 Poses/gestures
    - 2 hour Loomis study
    - 1 hour Bridgeman study
    - 1 Character of the Day

    SA 07-05
    - 15 Greyscale environment thumbnails
    - 1 Greyscale thumbnail picked out and polished
    - 1 Hour color study

    SU 08-05
    - 30 Poses/gestures
    - 2 hour Loomis study
    - 1 hour Bridgeman study
    - 1 hour Hogarth study
    - 1 Character of the Day

I started today, however, with some environment thumbnails and worked on another greyscale piece I already had.
I seem to detail my thumbnails too much... which has become pretty time-consuming to do.

I need to learn how to properly plan my way around the day. I've fallen behind with my schedule ánd to top it off; my scanner refuses to work, because there's something wrong with the printer!

All pencil drawings ( figures and such ) will come later, but I'll just focus on digital stuff. Here's something for today:

A quick colour study and two thumbnails, along with a bigger version of one of my earlier thumbs. I might do this one in colour sometime soon.

Matt Levert : Thanks a bunch. :] So glad you dropped by my sketchbook!

Detlef: Thank you, I appreciate your visit!

It's been a while since I posted, but this new project will set me off in the right direction again. It's time to start my favorite part of this project: painting environment concepts.
The game is based upon the story of Snowwhite and the 7 Dwarves.
Shown below is the first of a few pieces I'm working on.

Another piece , still wip and in greyscale.

    A character modelsheet.

And lastly, I decided to finish up this colour-study from the movie Battle Los Angeles.

    Expect more stuff this week!

Worked on the 2nd environment concept for a school project. I'm not really satisfied with the end result... might go back later and fix some values and try to get my head around on how to put colour unto a greyscale painting.

Edit: calling it for tonight. I think it's pretty much ready colouring. Will do that tomorrow. See ya.

htkpeh Thank you. That really means a lot to me. :]

Currently I'm busy as hell with a schoolproject. Right now we're in the proces of texturing all the 3D models. I'm no good at it, I discovered. :/

I continued work on a previous greyscale piece and started a quick colour study from the movie Thor ( WIP )

Tides, thank you for your kind words! I like to set moods anywhere. Even when I'm not painting.

I looked at this piece, again, and thought it needed something more. ( Besides more work and polishing and basic proper rendering :p )

I tried to add some lurking fighters attacking the high and mighty of a fleet. I wanted to capture the clouds from where they came dark, filled with lighting and evil looking. While the sky above is filled with radiant and pure sunlight ( and where the goody two shoes spacefleet is on parade )

If I work hard on this, I might just have a very nice sci-fi environment that has a nifty good vs evil tale being presented!

Thoughts on this are very welcome :]
