The art of Mila Updated 2013 - April 15

    Hi

Welcome to my sketchbook. A little about me:

I'm 23 and a Game Design student in the Netherlands. I'm currently involved with my graduating internship at Art King Studio.

This sketchbook was started in order to submerge myself into this world I've only recently discovered. Today, I realise I've come a long way from my first drawings from the first page of this SB. ConceptArt.org has motivated me to become best at what I like to do: paint and draw.

Feel free to check out my old submitted work below, or follow my recent work on the last page(s)

First off, I'll start with my first tablet-colored work that I started after just recently browsing on CA.

Secondly, a really old piece of work I started when I was bored. I never finished it and just trimmed the side off on the left. ( With a horrible gradient, as you can see )

and last but not least, a character I recently tried.

The houses are much work - as I see you are not lazy so the progress will come. The apple need highlights and the shadow is too bright beneath it. Where the apple touch the table or whatever the shadow must be almost black and fades in the end. Keep working on anatomy too

Trying out some new random brushes. I'd really like to go for enviroments, but I have no idea how to start.

Started using posemaniacs today for negative space-drawing too!

    this is really cool:

    http://attachments.conceptart.org/fo...1&d=1295631233

some beginner's advice. make sure you apply all your anatomical knowledge. i've been drawing for quite some time now and for a while i didn't make any progress on my imaginative figures because i didn't try to understand the link between anatomy studies and figure drawings. so make sure you incorporate some of that knowledge so it doesn't go to waste.

    keep posting. :-)

kitana_mk -Thanks for the advice! I'm currently working on using my tablet more for painting. Need more color/lighting studies!

goldilockz - Thank you, hopefully I'll go a long way!

Catish - Glad you like the houses. There's more, but it's unfinished. I've been wondering if I should finish it or not. I'm afraid after all this time you'll be able to spot a huge difference in style compared to the rest of the drawing.

razen_sketch - Thanks man. I'll have to force myself doing more these days. Can't give up!

Meanwhile - I started a enviroment painting in Photoshop yesterday. WIP for now, but I'll try to work on it as much as possible and keep updating here. ( Bear with me, I have no idea what I was doing there. )

Just a quick update today. I find it really hard to paint a picture that's in my head. It's not going as I'd hoped for.. if anyone has advice for me when it comes to enviroment painting, please do share them! They're very welcome.

Interesting studies! I especially like the city from above sketch, and your perspective studies. It's not easy to do and you're on the good way! keep it up!

Evolvana- Thank you so much! The perspective drawings are still challenging, but I like doing them.

razen-sketch - What do you mean by that? =] Lighting studies?

Busy lately, but managed to produce enviroment speedpaint today. I have to admit, at first I was about to get rid of it because it just wouldn't look right but I just kept working and discovered new things I added. ( the lone character, the low sunlight ) Eventually I'm fairly pleased by it!

What did I learn today? Dont give up and just keep trying new things.

razen_sketch - Aye, at first I was thinking about letting sunlight filter in through the windows, but I decided to make it dark and gloomy. ( As seen in the back of the picture ) Now I have to adjust the rest of the picture to that mood and ofcourse, finally finish it :p

Meanwhile, I tried 90 seconds posemaniacs drawing today. As you can see, it was a disaster... I can't even complete a single drawing under 90 seconds yet.
    How emberassing.

Great start, man! The hands studies are going well. Practive a lot, because hands are hard to do.

I like this piece very much too, even if the perspective is off. It has personality, and this is important!

About the apple on the first post, I strongly recommend you to search on web how to shade correctly cubes, spheres, cilinders and cones, they are the base for everything that sorround us. Spend a lot of time learnin how to draw them correctly and how to render them under diferent lighting conditions. Study this togheter with anatomy and you will improve drastically. Good luck, I'll mantain an eye on your SB.

Hehe thank you jrmauri. That old 'city' drawing started off randomly, and I had only eye for adding more bits to it. Dind't even realise it was way off perspective! It's fairly old too.. maybe I should redraw it these days, and see if I improved!

I'll also take your advice on shading and get started on that this week!
