Really cool sketches man. Really fun to look at. For some reason I hear music through your images. Lots of movement and cool visuals.

Here me first go at a weekly IDOW, see what you think...
The brief was The End of Civilization; a Doombot

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=212057

i figured there were lots of potential planet killing machines; plague makers, sunfuckers, simple thermonukes, but they dont really look like much, all you see is the effects....a plague machine could just look like a box, or a cloud... aside from giant robots the most spectacular has to be an assault from space, so this is my concept...

1997: a tiny spaceship, the size of a coke can, as black and cold as space arrives in the solar system at 2/5ths the speed of light. It swings around Jupiter and the Sun many times, slowing each time. Finally it slingshots out to arrive gently at an asteroid. It bores into the asteroid dirt and buries itself and begins to make things.

2012: an asteroid heads toward the earth. heroic space shuttle missions and a direct nuclear assault have failed to deflect the rock from its path. it will impact in 2 minutes.
Years earlier, giant sails made from asteroidal carbon and silicon grow out of the object's surface and catch the faint sunlight. Gradually, the gentle light pressure pushes the asteroid out of its stable orbit onto a new path, looping into the inner solar system. (the sails should be thousands of miles accross but you wouldnt see the asteroid at all then...
no one knows why this was done, or who did it. the artefacts on the asteroid havent responded in anyway excpet to repair themselves. first contact is hostile and otherwise silent.
1 minute to impact. in 18 months time the only life on earth will be living around deep ocean vents. its game over for humanity.

guys im blown away by your messages, thank you very very much
let me hit up your threads
Naidy: we should totally collab on something one day
SenEnd: thankyou my friend! glad to see youre stil here, i was worried youd forget us artgeeks with all they upheaval atm
Krysjez: you really subscribed?? i had no idea! thankyou
Vulgar: i have an admission to make, i totally stole the structure of that image from Syd Mead, when I was first learning 3DSMax
Im a massive mead fanboy. heres the original, superior version
    http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kv...9erqo1_500.jpg
pillaging syd mead apart, im megachuffed you liked whats going on here, ill try to keep it going, thankyou for looking through
and for you top work over at the community activity forums
Nik: hmm, im afraid my understanding of colour is pretty basic, I think i should probably a learn more about it really...i just let nature tell me what colour things should be, im not brave enough to mess with things yet.
i really like horrible jangling colours too hehe. ie anything with that sort of rusty cadmium red they used a lot on the old Popular Science magazine covers from back in the day ( http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/popular-science/5 )
so my tip would be.. hmmm... umm ok yeah my tip would be use your best judgement on all the colour decisions, except one, which has to be brutally wrong, and see how it looks. sometimes its kind of interesting what comes out you wouldnt have otherwise thought of.
plus the nice thing about studies is theyre throwaway; if you ruin it, who cares? its freeing
btw do you have a sktchbook i can bump?
Matty: thank you bro! i just have a mayfly attention span hehe, dont have the patience of the best guys and girls here, they nail their craft down whereas i feel in a rush to try all sorts, meaning its all kind of scruffy and amateur hour. my plan is to try copying some master paintings soon, pierre auguste-cot maybe.. im scared...
Bruce thank you so much man. haha "proper" i have a bizarre accent thats a mix of public school posh and shropshire blue collar, so end every sentence with like (larrrrk)! its proper uncool and comes accross in my text if i dont watch it
right, now lets hit your threads, exciting!

wow great design in those environments. The mix of nature and minimalistic tech works incredibly good. Amazing sketchbook so far, waiting for new updates
