Liking the stff here man, And I can see loads of improvement in the figure drawings and the 3d designs are splendid as always.

-Spend more time looking at the model than your own drawing.
-Remember your principles of composition, REVERB-CU, rhythm, emphasis, variety, ecology, repetition, balance, continuity and unity. (at least i think every gesture is like a mini composition by itself.)
-There is no correct procedure. Every time is different, sometimes i start with center lines, sometimes i start with big shapes, sometimes contour, sometimes mass tone. Go with what the pose tells you.
-It's OK to exagerate and/or simplify.
-Look at gestures from the masters for inspiration.
-Don't be afraid to fail big. (I owe that one to the great George Pratt!)
A quote from COlin's Thread, And i am sure that you read it! but just putting it here to emphasise, We can learn a lot from him.

    Much love

I haven't spent much time in these forums in a while and when I did, architectural stuff wasn't all that common so it is cool to see some of the stuff you do with it. Keep up the work.

Bhanu; Colin is a king isnt he; his sketches are so eloquent and simple at the same time... its a crime his SB is 4* and I dont think me clicking 5 repeatedly is doing anything..

Tiago: thanks bud, yeah not much archvis about here, its a shame as theres some brilliant work out there; I really like VisualHouse in london, killer stuff...

Hey, thanks for the comment! Your 3-D and architecture and painting stuff blows my mind. I can see you're working hard at the figure drawings, keep at it! Have you heard of Glen Vilppu? He emphasizes seeing the basic forms of the figure, pretty much breaking it apart into simple shapes and understanding it so you can draw it better. Maybe that would help your drawings.

Vert: wow thankyou bro! Vilpuu eh? sounds like a nazi laxative arf arf! he mustve heard that so many times... no ive not heard of him but now i have i all over it like a rash, thankyou for the tip off!

now into month 2 of learning to draw humanoids and i think its getting easier... its like learnign to fly the helicopter in GTAIV, a nightmare at first but gradually you start to be able to really kill a lot of people... hang on what was I talking about?

i think youre right; break it down into bits... the method ive been using is basically choose a point on the body and guestimate where the nearest hingy bits are from it, like knees, wrists, etc, and try and use them as the start and end points for the long curvy lines, and then refine any that are obviously wrong. but that does mean if you get it subtly wrong at the start, which is pretty easy to do especially on bloody foreshortened legs, the whole skeleton is wrong... hmm ill have a good look at villpu's stuff.
ive noticed bums are tricky too, theres a really complex line there where i just ass-umed it would be a simple one... not easy..
    thankyou again vertical!

    heres another 15min...

Mike Im sorry for drooling all over your thread but my jaw kept on having painful informal meetings with the floor. Youre images have pervaded my movie-addicted life for decades and I didnt even realise. Astonishing is all I can say.
Thank you very much for looking at this stuff, Im hugely chuffed.

Compared to that this seems a little small, but a game I worked on with Sir Randis and the most excellent team at Subatomic Games and Autodesk came out the other day.
if anyone has an iPad you can play it free here:

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tinkerbox/id415722219

Randis as youll know is basically a genius, and the team were great, so the whole thing (for me at least) was a blast!
id like to say a big thankyou to them all for being such good sports to work with, especially when my confidence periodically melted down, and hope the game goes on to smash it out there in the world and be a big success.
    And get a sequel

finally, my sisters sent me stuff within weeks of eachother... i had no idea they could even draw really so these things blew my brain...
the beetle is burned onto paper with a laser cutter!
i think theyre fantastic and im banging on at them to start threads here and so receive you guys's wisdom advice and encouragement like I have...

The architecture in here in really refreshing, it's great to see a variety of subjects.

On the figures and foreshortening.. Honestly I don't understand it very well myself, but what I found helps is breaking the figure down into basic shapes like cubes and cylinders. Once you got that, just put them into perspective like you would with those basic shapes normally.

Specifically on that picture, the photo looks a bit wonky but from what I can see, I think you made the lower leg too short. In that picture it's kind of hard to tell at first, but the lower leg is actually longer. Look for the knee to see where the leg divides up. Maybe someone with more expertise can step in and help me explain haha..

Man, you have a remarkable sense of scale, if I could only have your architectural skills....Kinda makes me regret dropping out of architecture school...but meh.
Its handy if you ever need to previsualize a concept painting.

Dude, what do you do for a living?! Besides being professionally awesome, that is. I am
SO envious of your willingness to quote "screw the comfort zone," lol. Your colors and
ability to create things in 3D are ace. Like others mentioned, figures could stand to get
a little attention, but hey, you can rest pretty easy at night with what you've got here. ^^
And those mouse drawings....I think about them constantly, lol. Keep being an inspiration
    dude.

Thanks you guys! I responded in your threads

doodle in the style of Syd Mead sort of...

The Worlds Fair, July 10 2051; Britain at the forefront of the Diamond Age...
The Prince of Wale's palacial coach pulls gently away from Blenheim Palace to cruise the English countryside on roads specially prepared for the fair... onboard 1000 people at a time drink, look at displays of interesting new technology, drink, look at the view from the open sun deck above the main wheel and generally have a nice time.
To get from sun deck to side decks to debarkation, ride in cabins inside the wheel!
    or something...
id love to know what you think; is it too stupid? or just stupid enough? wuld you lay things out differently, or change the design? id like to take this to a big rendering you see.. i hope people respond, bad or good.. thanks in advance if you do!

thanks bhanu!.. youre a bloody legend mate... tell me what i should do with the big wheel i need your eye on it bigtime

ramin: thank you very much indeed. im a month into really trying hard to draw people, and totally trying to rip off the techniqeus of people hjere at CAO (Dark Eyes) and James Jean...his pencil sketches are poetic... i am a big fan of your stuff dude, youre really putting the hours in; we'll get there if we keep at it im sure!

more drawing practice here. i really raced the clock on this one and stopped when it went... i think its an improvement, less stiff, even if proportionally things are way wrong.
the ref is still from this porn vid, which personally i think is quite tasteful, its really well lit and features a handsome guy and a stunningly hot girl (imo)... needless to say if your work has a no porn policy clicking the link would be like resiging. everyone else enjoy!

wow, a lot of mind blowing stuff in this thread. I think my favourites are the huge buildings reaching the clouds and the loose, sketchy drawings (particularly the ones of the trucks) very clear, yet energetic.

Would love to see some more characters from you! I know you mentioned how its a weak area, but they look pretty solid to me!

looking forward to seeing more from you!

Man... I want to hang out in your imagination, some REALLY sweet shit going on in here, including your reality/mind-bending spaceships sitting on quiet british-looking lawns. Your pen-work is devastating, reminds me that I need to pay more attention to negative space myself.

    Nothing to say but, wow!
Love it all! You know, I thought about getting into 3ds max myself, but quickly abandoned the idea. But now I may get into it again.
    Awesome stuff!
